Rise of the Argentine Empire

#30 - Entrance exams and future plans

The next day, Saint-Hesse reluctantly crawled out of the comfortable hotel bed, feeling somewhat dizzy.

After a quick wash and breakfast, he began another day of intense review.

He had to take this exam seriously. Regarding this university, Saint-Hesse recalled a joke from his previous life: 'When I was a kid, I always wondered, should I go to Tsinghua or Peking University when I grow up? In the end, I chose Beida Jade Bird.'

As Argentina's top university, the University of Buenos Aires is a truly well-known institution, its status equivalent to Harvard in the United States, or Cambridge and Oxford in England, and even more difficult to get into. Even with this year's increased enrollment, the difficulty remains high.

After all, at American Harvard, if your family is powerful and donates a large sum of money, you can get in. If you had to compare it to something, it would only be the status of Peking and Tsinghua Universities in New China, or even higher, since it's the only one of its kind.

As a public university, tuition is free, with only a small fee for miscellaneous expenses. It has a student cafeteria that is economical, many scholarships, strong faculty, ample funding, and graduates with very high status. Many professors and deans are members of the government's think tank.

The difficulty of getting into it can be said to be the highest in Argentina. This is not only reflected in the largest number of people taking the exam together, but also in the most, most difficult, and most cutting-edge subjects tested. It is even a university that has produced several Nobel Prize winners, as well as the future great warrior Che Guevara, and several presidents, who all studied here.

However, the number of people admitted each year is small.

However, as far as the entrance exam is concerned, this university is still very fair. Saint-Hesse is just doing his best and doesn't dare to have too much hope, after all, he doesn't know if the 'sea of questions' strategy will work.

After all, everyone else has studied for six years. Saint-Hesse has studied for six or seven months at most. After all, the knowledge he learned in the middle school of his hometown, the Gaucho region, was mostly simple, and he has almost forgotten it, relying on his abnormal memory to support him.

Of course, Argentina doesn't have many people, even equivalent to a municipality directly under the central government where Saint-Hesse lived in his previous life, or those more powerful provincial capitals, or special economic zone cities.

In Argentina, some people can't even afford the travel expenses to take the exam at this university. Many people directly take the public universities in their own province. However, those who are truly capable will not give up on taking the exam at this university. Most of those who give up are those who have a slight chance of passing, but don't really want to, or can only get into unpopular majors and might as well go to a worse school.

Some people will also take the exam in their own province first, and then come to try their luck, because Argentina does not have a national college entrance examination system, so in many ways it is not as fair as the New China's college entrance examination system in later generations.

Complete the academic goals exam in the middle school of your province, and then go to the designated university to participate in the entrance exam. If you pass, you can enroll.

Doesn't it seem less difficult now? Then you are wrong. The entrance exam of this university not only has a large number of subjects, but all those who want to enroll must take the exam for three consecutive days, involving six courses.

There are not many universities in Argentina, only a few dozen now, and two-thirds of the people are distributed outside the vast Buenos Aires metropolitan area, to this extent of sparsely populated.

……

Time came to the third day, and the entrance exam of the University of Buenos Aires was finally about to be held.

Getting up early, after breakfast, Saint-Hesse took his high school diploma and identification and examination certificate to participate in this important exam.

The number of applicants for this session is about 8,000, accounting for one-fifth of the number of high school graduates in Argentina this year. Of course, there are not so many people on the scene, and some people gave up before entering the examination room.

Different from the more than 2,000 applicants in Cordoba, this can be regarded as gathering the essence of a generation of Argentinians.

Saint-Hesse looked at the various high school graduates queuing up, wearing different clothes. The overall spirit was still good. The young people were high-spirited, at least Argentina is not rotten to the core now.

“Let me save you,” Saint-Hesse thought with a chuunibyou attitude, looking at the staff announcing the examination room in front.

Twelve examination rooms were arranged in the city to arrange the exams. The examination rooms were different every day for three days. Saint-Hesse's first stop was in the examination room of this university.

“Saint-Hesse Cohen, Teaching Building No. 5, seat 601-72.”, A serious non-commissioned officer said after checking the documents. He looked like someone from the Ministry of National Defense, with a temperament similar to that of Chief of Staff Lucifer.

The exam location is only known half an hour before the exam, in order to show fairness. This is the first time I have seen it. The National University of Cordoba last time was very relaxed, directly arranging the exam. This one deserves to be the number one university in the country.

Saint-Hesse looked around and found classroom 601. Two proctors in their thirties, a man and a woman, carefully checked and verified the identity of each exam entrant and announced the exam rules.

“No materials are allowed, only pens are allowed, and watches are not allowed. Anything else must be left outside, otherwise it will be treated as cheating.” The woman who looked like a teacher was announcing the exam rules.

“You are not allowed to look at the test paper in advance after the test paper is distributed. Write your name and candidate number. Start answering the questions after the exam bell rings.”

As the exam bell rang, Saint-Hesse began to answer the questions.

In the morning, the exam was on familiar types of exam questions. Saint-Hesse took the law exam, definitions of terms, essay questions, short answer questions, etc., memory-based questions, Saint-Hesse's strength, and used the short answer questions.

The examination room was very quiet, with only the rustling sound of writing.

Saint-Hesse wrote furiously, racking his brains, and striving to make every letter look like print.

In the afternoon, the exam was on essay questions. Saint-Hesse gave full play to the ability of a “keyboard warrior”, coupled with solid basic knowledge, and a self-summarized template for answering questions, and completed the writing of the essay questions quickly and well.

In the morning of the second day, the exam was on official legal writing, and in the afternoon, the exam was on Argentine history and global history, as well as the history of Catholicism. The last one was the one that Saint-Hesse hated the most, and he must get rid of this thing if he has the opportunity in the future.

On the morning of the third day, it was the introduction to advanced mathematics. That's right, I still have to take this exam, and it's a good thing I didn't study French.

On the afternoon of the third day, the exam was on the Argentine version of “Ideological and Moral Education”. After finishing the last subject, Saint-Hesse finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Six classrooms in three days, and four pens used up. Good thing I wasn't writing with a fountain pen, or Saint Hérse would have gone crazy. Now that ballpoint pens have been invented, it's only a feeling of being somewhat drained.

Now that I've come to the capital, a tour is essential. Argentina's stock market and securities trading aren't very developed.

If Saint Hérse had to choose, he would definitely prefer the New York Stock Exchange in the United States. In fact, that's exactly what Saint Hérse is planning to do.

Open an account in the United States to speculate in stocks, buy some companies that will be familiar in later generations. The peso is about to depreciate, and buying gold directly isn't cost-effective.

But now, converting pesos into US dollars and opening a few accounts in the US stock market can earn some money.

Companies that have developed rapidly in recent years include Coca-Cola, General Motors, Ford is also recovering, General Electric, and various oil companies will also see crazy surges in the next few years.

The world's largest company now is General Motors. If I remember correctly, the annual report will be released in March, and the stock will skyrocket. This is one of the key stocks to invest in.

Since there's money to be made, then I definitely have to do it. At least before the economic crisis in the 70s and the stock market crash in '78, there are good opportunities. This is a wealth multiplier.

There are too many things to spend money on in the future, so I need to get more money, otherwise, I won't be able to develop. Saint Hérse went to a securities company in Buenos Aires to open a US account and see if there were any opportunities to get in and grab some chips.

And the chips of American stocks under the war are also cheap. Saint Hérse plans to prepare one million US dollars worth of chips a month and invest them in the American stock market for a wave of operations.

But I need a reliable team. I must establish my own securities team and firmly control it. This is a very good channel.

After all, the development of the current food company is too slow. The industries to be entered in the future, such as steel plants, automobile factories, and even aerospace industry, are all built with money.

Even a steel plant with an annual output of more than two million tons requires at least five million US dollars in initial investment.

Now the entire Prallari company's annual sales are only three million US dollars, and the profit is only five hundred thousand US dollars. It's not enough to save up for a large steel plant in ten years.

It is indeed a bit crazy to withdraw 500,000 US dollars to speculate in stocks now, but Prallari is definitely Saint Hérse's private company, and he can directly transfer the money to a new company account through investment.

The well-known financial teams of later generations have not yet been established, and Saint Hérse is already planning to copy the name.

It will be called "Sequoia Venture Capital Fund Company." If Sequoia has already been registered, then Redwood will do. Anyway, the name doesn't matter, it's about the same. The headquarters will be located in New York, USA, focusing on the New York Stock Exchange in the early stage.

The company name is there, and the money is there, all that's missing is someone to do it.

I'm not familiar with the Argentine stock market, and it's small, but the capital is, after all, a place of essence, so it shouldn't be a problem to start recruiting.

Of course, I can't be too arrogant. It's best to support an American as the legal person. There aren't many people I trust now, so I can only find someone from Prallari Food Company to be responsible. Little Nicks is scheduled to be the future sales manager.

Another one who is doing well is Lucifer, who is responsible for the northwestern provinces, but many things cannot be guaranteed. If it were Aragon, I would be relieved.

It's a pity I don't know if Aragon is interested in finance and controlling this risk fund.

The risk fund that Saint Hérse plans to establish will not be very large, so the loyalty of the head is very important. Aragon doesn't like to study, but there are some people in the study group who are knowledgeable.

Moreover, in order to consider the targeting of Americans, a better identity is also needed. This is also a problem.

At least two old employees must be responsible for this team. I can talk to Aragon alone about my ideas. He is indeed the most suitable candidate.

Aragon is not very interested in going to school, but he is indeed a very loyal fan of Saint Hérse. He is a life-or-death friendship from childhood to adulthood.

Argentina is currently still in contact with Spain. Argentina has surpassed the old suzerain state in the past few years, but it will soon be caught up and surpassed by Spain, by two or three times.

Saint Hérse sat in the hotel room, looking at the materials on the table. Although he had some research on stocks in his previous life, he is still not professional enough. However, in order to ensure that the recruited people are not useless, he still needs to understand.

Saint Hérse needs some tools, not some stock trading geniuses, as long as they can faithfully complete Saint Hérse's instructions and plans. Saint Hérse is not greedy, and he doesn't want to be targeted by the CIA.

Even if he really becomes powerful in the future, he shouldn't really offend the Americans. Just have a little fun. He can do some small tricks behind his back, but Europe, especially the soon-to-be-established Coal and Steel Community, the Atomic Energy Community, etc., must be taken seriously, as well as the Brazilian market, the Australian market, the Latin American market, and the American market. These are the directions that need to be worked hard on in the future.

Even the mushroom egg cannot be too arrogant in the future, or even too high-profile. It is dangerous before it is really made. Countries like South Africa, quasi-developed countries, cannot hold on to it, let alone Iraq, Nigeria, and Iran.

If you really have mushroom eggs, you also need long-range missiles to have a little confidence.

As for offending the British, then do whatever you want. If you become awesome in the future, you will definitely fight them. After all, the weakest of the five powers. To become a world power, you must fight the five powers with real swords and guns. Even if you can't become one of the five powers, brushing the weakest copy of the five powers is very necessary.

The Falkland Islands must be recovered, but with a stronger industrial system, a stronger military industry, and more excellent soldiers.

"Truth is within the range of cannons," Saint Hérse whispered, looking at the blue sky and white clouds outside the window, the setting sun.
