Chapter 93

“No, why kill innocent incubi?” Adelaide opened her mouth wide in surprise.

She wondered if he was bluffing, but his eyes were too sincere.

‘This d*mned mouth!’

Saying useless things only made them worry more. She should’ve just said she was being bullied. She was angry at herself for spitting out everything she could think of.

She wanted to casually change the subject, but it was not easy to deceive the two devils. Using the acting skills she had used to successfully bring warriors to Greenville, she acted with her best performance yet.

“Ah, suddenly my head…”

“I must have recalled too many old memories.” She mumbled pitifully and flopped to the bed.

Caladium smirked at her obvious behavior. Lisianthus also smiled calmly and stayed silent.

“Adela! Are you okay?”

Bell was the only one who was really deceived by her acting. Bell, who had grown up to look like a ten-year-old boy, quickly approached Adelaide and looked at her with concern. The way his two red eyes lit up was so cute.

“Hmm, it’s okay now.”

Adelaide patted Bell’s head and got up again. Fortunately, the two devils seemed to no longer question her after acting weakly to avoid answering. She breathed a sigh of relief and continued her words.

“Anyway, don’t worry too much. Still, it has gotten a lot better after ten years. A good demon stayed by my side.”

“Who is that?”

“Penelope. My best friend.”

Thinking of Penelope brought a smile to her lips. In fact, it was all thanks to Penelope that Adelaide regained her energy.

– “Please eat this! How long are you going to starve?”

Penelope came to Adelaide’s room every day and forced her to eat.

– “Touch Adela one more time. I will kill you all.”

She took care of the succubi and incubi that were tormenting Adelaide.

– “I am worried about you. It’s okay not to go to work, or to keep your mouth shut for years. Everything is fine, just… I hope you don’t struggle for too long.”

Adelaide, who was dying silently, was brought back to life. One day, as she gradually opened up to her kindness, Adelaide asked why she was so good to her, Penelope replied.

– “I do not know. I just keep seeing and worrying about you.”

– “We’re not even that close.” Adelaide replied.

Then Penelope declared confidently with a gorgeous smile.

– “Then we can get closer from now on. Can we be friends from today?”

Ironically, Adelaide was very impressed with those words. Even though she wondered if she could make friends again, she couldn’t push Penelope away. She didn’t want to. So Adelaide got through the trauma of losing her old friend through her new friend.

“I am grateful to that person.”

Lisianthus said softly.

“Even when I saw her this time, she seemed to have very deep thoughts for Master.”

“Oh yeah! How was Pippa? The warrior came here, so was everything fine over there?”

“Yes. There was friction between other demons, but it wasn’t too bad. I have taken appropriate measures to prevent further unnecessary disputes, so you don’t have to worry about that.”

“Thank God.” Adelaide murmured.

She did wonder however, what that ‘appropriate measure’ was, but she did not dare ask. She expected Lisianthus would have done a good job without her needing to know.

“By the way, how did you know, Lisian? I actually dropped the artifact Lisian gave me… Sorry.”

Adelaide glanced at him. The dungeon master, who should be responsible for her demons, was embarrassed because she didn’t take care of one artifact carefully.

“There is nothing to be sorry about. You were in a situation. I got a signal that the artifact was broken and immediately used my powers. It was probably broken during the battle between Caladium and the Champion. Thanks to that, I was not too late.”

“Is that so? I’m glad…” She nodded her head.

If Lisianthus hadn’t come, she thought something bad would have happened. The conversation cooled down again.

“What happened to Caladium? Your energy suddenly disappeared, so Adelaide and us were very worried.”

One Skeleton asked abruptly.

“Right, there was that.” Adelaide agreed and stared at Caladium.

Caladium answered, scratching the back of his head, hesitating.

“I was struck by his power. It was the power to lose one’s mind and be trapped in hallucinations, but because I had no idea that the cub was of mixed race, I got caught up in it. So it took me a while to get out.”

He gently turned his head to meet Adelaide’s gaze.

“You didn’t know either?”

“That the child is a half-blood.” Caladium added cautiously.

“… Yeah, I didn’t know. Him being a half or him being a warrior. Of course I thought he was dead…”

Lupinus, whom Adelaide knew, was just a human child who was not born with the spirit of a warrior. He was such a fragile child who would’ve died in 100 years at most. That was the reason why she couldn’t relate Lupinus to the legendary warrior who was looking for a succubus.

But Lupinus was still alive.

Adelaide clenched her molars tightly. Complex emotions entangled in her chest. Her joy that her first friend was alive and not dead, coexisted with her sadness that her friend hated her so terribly.

It was understandable why Lupinus resented her. Her lashes looked down again as she got lost in her thoughts.

She tried to harm his father, whom he loved, and dyed his home in a sea of blood. Whatever the circumstances were, this was the objective fact. Besides, even though she knew how terrible his guardian was, she put him back in the hands of such scum.

It was obvious how he would treat Lupinus and what he would tell the child about Adelaide.

‘Still… Thank god.’

Bell’s bright face sitting next to her, overlapped with the young Lupinus’ face. The child was alive. He didn’t die at her hands, he survived and became an adult. The tip of her nose tingled at the sudden thought.

“Then.”

Lisianthus’ resolute voice broke her thoughts.

“What does Master intend to do in the future?”

That was the most important question. Lupinus will surely come to Greenville again. So, how should Greenville deal with him?

He was Adelaide’s old friend, so, will they make a peaceful place for him without fighting, or will they regard him as an enemy and kill him regardless of their previous relationship?

It was time for a decision to be made.

All eyes were focused on Adelaide. Adelaide didn’t answer straight away, only fiddling with her fingertips with anxious eyes.

To the other members, Lupinus was just an enemy. The worst enemy who threatened the entire Demon Realm and invaded Greenville Dungeon. A good demon and dungeon owner should report it to the Demon King right away, and with their help, catch and imprison Lupinus.

But Adelaide couldn’t do that to Lupinus.

How could she do such a vicious thing to him, when she herself had already left him a big wound?

However, she couldn’t even say anything to defend Lupinus. She couldn’t say that in front of her demons who had suffered and got hurt because of him.

Unable to do this or that, Adelaide bit her lip. Her pink pupils trembled helplessly.

Reading her eyes like that, Lisianthus opened his mouth again.

“I am not asking what the most reasonable and correct answer is. I just want to listen to Master’s thoughts.”

Adelaide flinched at his words that seemed to have read her mind. Raham, who was listening quietly, also added.

“The manager is right. We are curious about your thoughts. Not as a dungeon master, but as Adelaide.”

The other demons agreed and nodded their heads. Adelaide noticed that faith in her was ingrained in everyone’s faces. Thanks to that, she gained a little bit of courage. She lightly spoke.

“Talk… I want to try talking to him.”

There was a tremor in her voice at the still lingering guilt. However, the gazes of the demons she met were still friendly.

“Why do you look like that? Did you commit a crime?”

Caladium poked her forehead playfully. Adelaide was startled by the sudden attack, and he burst out laughing.

“Well, it won’t be easy to subdue that b*stard, but it’s not too much. You have two devils, what do you have to worry about?”

“Didn’t you see how I completely destroyed him last time?” He shrugged his shoulders and added.

He seemed to be pretending to show off to cheer up Adelaide. The Skeletons also responded with a similar idea, saying, “Right! We saw it.”

“I understand, Master. Then we should be ready to face him. Even if he has come back to life, it will take several days for him to fully regain his powers, so we have plenty of time.”

Lisianthus spoke as if it wasn’t a big deal. On the contrary, it was Adelaide who was bewildered by their casual reactions. No one was against the idea of having a conversation with the human warrior, a legend whom the whole Demon Realm was watching out for. She was so grateful that they believed in her and followed her completely.

“I am… I’m truly blessed. There are so many good demons around me.”

Adelaide couldn’t stand it anymore and burst into tears of emotion.

“Hey, uh? Pu ha ha! She’s crying!”

“Adela is crying!” Caladium roared as he laughed.

It was just a few minutes ago when he had tears in his eyes. The Skeleton Captain who was standing next to him poked his side telling him to read the room.

Then he said in a soft voice towards Adelaide.

“Because you are a good demon, good demons also gathered around you. This is your power, Adelaide.”

“How in the world can you say such kind words?” Adelaide was overjoyed and grabbed him by the chest. The giggling Caladium who was rolling on the bed was lightly ignored.

“Ah, speaking of abilities.”

One Durahan politely raised his hand and spoke.

“How did you get out of that trash can? That B-grade magic item.”

“Come to think of it, that’s right. I definitely locked it tight.”

“Ah, that’s…”

Adelaide continued her words, wiping her tears with the dull-patterned handkerchief that Lisianthus handed her.

“I used my powers.”
