Day 2: Sleeping outdoors for the first time ever

Holy Era 6102, Month of the Moon Rabbit, 15th day.
Weather: Sunny

…This is the worst. I overslept today…
I usually wake up right on time, but when I got up it was already midday.
However, surely it should be allowed once in a while? I worked hard yesterday. That’s what I’ll say to console myself.

Now, today I once again accepted a herb gathering quest from the Adventurers Guild.
This time it is two. It’s fine, I got the hang of it yesterday. And so I should be able to manage even if the workload is doubled.
The lady at the guild seemed to be worried about me, but there’s no problem. After all, I’m someone who can do anything if I put my mind to it!!

I admit, there was a time when I believed this…
Currently, the sun has set completely, and the forest is shrouded in darkness. And so I have done my best to build a fire.
Thankfully, I had bought some emergency flint stones before setting out. …They were expensive, but I was forced to use them so soon… This is the worst.

I’m not used to being in the forest at night, and so I decided that it would be reckless to walk back to town. And so it is with a feeling of resignation that I am writing the day’s entry into this diary.
…Yes. I am sleeping out in the forest tonight… Yesterday it was a luxurious inn, today it’s outside… How did this happen to me…

But thankfully, there are no dangerous monsters in this forest. That’s what the kind lady at the guild said, so I should be fine.
While this is my first time sleeping outdoors, I will get through this!!

The real charm of sleeping out in the wild is the food. You can procure food at your location and cook simple meals. That’s what a first-rate Adventurer does.
As the clusters of momija plants grew near the river, today I will cook the river fish that I caught there. That being said, all that meant was grilling them over a fire.

…It’s not that I’m unable to cook or anything!! But this is the Adventurer way of cooking!! As I write this, I notice that it has cooked just the right amount. And so I must put my pen down and…

…Mmm. Next time I will put some salt and various herbs into my pouch…
In any case, I would say that it ‘reeks of blood and mud!!’

Gah. It was not supposed to be like this… The Adventurers in the stories always just cooked their food over a fire and then ate it as if it was delicious… Why is this so…
I want soup and bread and meat…I do.
Tomorrow, I will definitely eat them when I return to town.

Phew. In any case, while the taste was what it was, it is so comforting to be full. How odd.
Now, I will have to watch the fire and stay up all night…
I read in a book somewhere that you should chew on some momija grass if you become drowsy, so I should probably be fine.

If I return safely to town tomorrow, I will surely have grown a little as an Adventurer. …Well, I sincerely hope…so.
