Shadowless Night
Chapter 1
Ch 1 [NWS]
Roselyn of Red Wheel. She was the only one whose body had not been found.

Wild animals and beasts, which reproduced exponentially as the days progressed, were a headache for many people.
The Count of Dry Thorn, had dispatched subjugations a few times annually, but the monsters were particularly frequent.
The biggest problem was that well-trained soldiers could not last several days because of the harsh mountain path, and there were many places where the monsters could hide themselves. Even if the soldiers wanted to completely wipe them out, the beasts would crawl out again a short time later and make a commotion.
The next day, when the hunters and the subjugators visited the Count of Dry Thorn, a beast shaped like a wild boar devastated the village under the mountain.
It seemed that it’s prey had dwindled due to the constant subjugations and so it descended the mountain. The monster boar was killed, by a knight of Dry Thorn, while eating a skinny boy. This was the reason why the hunting competition hosted by the imperial family was held here.
Many nobles, the royal family, and the imperial knights took part in this hunting competition, which was held to calm public sentiment and to promote the solidity of the royal family.
In addition to the Second Prince’s Knights of the ‘White Night’, there was the 2nd Imperial Knights of the ‘Deep Forest’ guarding the 5th Prince. There were also the Royal fourth division units which include the ‘Water Spring’, ‘Dry Thorn’ and ‘Iron Horse’ knights. A lot of different forces have moved to one location, to the point where it seems like they are about to wage war.
(TL note: not 100% sure which division guards who, so hopefully it will be clear in future.)
The hunting contest went smoothly for a short period of time. There were no casualties except for some servants who sprained their ankles due to the rough mountain road. Then during the 5th game of the hunting contest, an incident happened.
Balta, a huge kingdom neighbouring the Empire of Illavenia. They had sent an assassination unit to invade the mountain range where Illavenia’s power was concentrated. The battle began in the darkness of night as the torches increased to light the way.
Although it was a surprise attack, the assassination force was quickly subdued and the situation was reversed.
The difference in numbers was too great, and the assassin’s group was not comparable to an armed unit. When dawn came, the turmoil gradually subsided.
The attackers were all wiped out, and the princes escaped without a scratch. But the joy of victory was accompanied by considerable losses.
Blood was strewn all over the land in the morning sun.
Dozens of assassins left as much damage as they could, using poison and secret notes. The hunting contest could no longer continue, and the princes rushed back to the palace.
Each of the knights headed to the capital Tigard to escort them, but some stayed behind to pick up the wounded and the dead. The Vice-Captain of the white night knights had fallen. His lieutenant drew a line, one by one, on the list of knights who were either dead or injured; fifteen were injured, seven dead.
Fourteen injured and eight dead. One of the soldiers who had just been treated had died and a doctor has just pronounced him dead.
Unable to hide his misery, he crossed out names, searching for all of the deceased. After about half a day the list was split up into the following: who was left for guard duty, who was wounded, and who was dead.
The lieutenant realized that among the names on the paper, there was a person not included on the list. Roselyn of Red Wheel.
She was the eldest daughter of the Count of Red Wheel, a member of the Knights of the White Night, despite being a woman.
Her strength was rather weak compared to the male knights, but the Vice-Captain, who died this time, valued her sincere attitude. The lieutenant looked everywhere to see if a body had been found by the other knights. However, her black hair was nowhere to be seen.
It was six days after the battle that a search team from the Red Wheel County and the White Knights were dispatched; they found her deep in the woods, with great injuries beneath the cliff.
The ready-to-mourn mansion was free from its days of silence.
This was because the eldest daughter of Count Red Wheel, who was assumed to have died in the battle, fighting at the hunting contest, survived.
The white cloth marked for the dead which was hung on the wall, vaguely, had yet to be cleaned up. However, there were more urgent matters than collecting the cloth. At that moment, the Young Lord opened the door of the house, even though it was noisy outside.
A man with black hair came in with a firm expression.
“Where?”
“Welcome, Young Master. The Miss is in the room. I think the beings up on high are looking down at us with blessings from above.”
Even though she fell from a high up on a cliff, the doctor had said nothing broke. Instead, she suffered from extensive minor injuries and a high fever. There was even some saying that she would not be able to survive when they discovered the wounds.
In her critical condition, she was immediately unable to return to the County, Red Wheel, and therefore had to be treated in Vista. The wounds healed bit by bit, but she didn’t open her eyes.
The Count of Red Wheel, who wanted to prevent her from dying, placed orders to have her to move from Vista to the Main House.
It was a tiring journey on the patient’s body, but surprisingly the next morning, her consciousness returned.
They wanted her to come home. The butler took out a handkerchief and wiped away his tears.
Calyx quickly climbed the stairs.
A servant and a few maids trailed after him. As he up to the door of her room, a doctor writing a note was just leaving Rosalyn’s room. When he saw Calyx rushing up, he bowed quickly.
“How’s my sister?”
“Ah, my Lord Calyx. I think she’s fine now… but still with a fever….”
It was strange that the doctor’s words were rambling. Calyx gazed at him with squinted eyes. Silence pressed down on the doctor. He couldn’t stand it anymore and threw out another word.
“Maybe…” (the doctor)
Why are you talking like that?
Is it safe or not. The more ferocious Calyx looked, the more the doctor, Basio, shifted his eyes around the room.
The doctor was already a sweaty man, now it seemed he was soaking wet in perspiration as if he was rained on. This is not a good omen. Calyx managed to get his mind back on track.
“Is there something wrong with my sister.”
“She, there is.”
Calyx burst through the door without listening to him.
‘It’s not polite to go in and out, without permission, even if it’s between siblings, Calyx.’
Although he was scolded a lot when he was young, he was not so relaxed as to wait for the owner of the room to allow him. His sister came in to view, as she was sitting up on the bed.
She stared at the door as it caused a sudden commotion.
She had a bandage on her arm, and a few tiny marks on her face.
However, her face looked bright and fine, even though she was just a person who had been between life and death for a few days.
Calyx breathed a sigh of relief. The doctor’s strange behaviour made him feel uneasy. Calyx unfurled the wrinkles that he had settled between his brow and approached Roselyn.
While dragging a small chair next to her bed, she only stared at Calyx’s face.
He knew his sister’s calm personality. However, he was not comfortable thinking that she was now even more quiet as a result of the fact that she had managed to survive a harsh battle. Even if she was not happy enough to embrace each other in a hug, she still would not react in such a tranquil manner.
“Are you feeling better? Are you feeling any discomfort?”
There was a ticking sound of the clock. At Calyx’s question, she only blinked. Her mouth was closed shut in a straight line, and there was no sign of it opening.
It was a slightly strange air, but Calyx tentatively called out, “sister?”
He waited again for an answer.
Her pretty, peridot-coloured eyes captured him. Roselyn’s eyelids slowly lowered, then rose. A harsh, low-pitched voice rang out as if proving the plentiful hardships she had faced.
“My body, it’s okay. Uh, it’s uncomfortable… … maybe, not?”
Calyx sprang up as he was leaning towards her. His body instinctively responded to the sudden rush of incompatibility and unfamiliarity with her.
Calyx looked embarrassed by his actions. His eyes shifted away.
Roselyn still just stared at Calyx. Her eyes were cooler than usual without a grain of emotion. Calyx rubbed his face several times and forced a smile.
He was obviously puzzled, but his voice was still calm and pleasant.
“Rest a little, Sister. I have a job to go do, so I’m going to leave.”
“I’ll sleep for a little bit…shh…please.”
“Yes. I’ll see you later.”
Turning away, Calyx glanced at the attending physician.
Basio followed Calyx as he walked out of the room, continuing to sweat profusely. The door closed and a terrifying silence came down in the hall.
Calyx pressed his hand down around his eyes, feeling tired.
“This… what the hell is going on.”
Basio heard the young Master’s teeth grinding. He couldn’t make eye contact with Calyx and looked at his feet as if he were struggling to apologize.
“I would have to ask you, what happened?”
Basio trembled. He managed to control his shivering voice to explain the diagnosis.

She was bleeding heavily and seems to have lost her memory, it will be for a while because of her weak body and mind. If older people get memory loss it is called “Dementia,” eventually the language system collapses. Unfortunately her case seems to be similar to that.”
“Dementia?” Calyx shook his head.
It seemed like Calyx did not like the fact that the term “Dementia” was given to the eldest Lady of the Red Wheel County.
“The brain is very delicate. I wanted to make it clear to you that if you have a problem with your brain, the language system could collapse, it may not necessarily mean that you have dementia.”
