“Your Excellency and I…?”

“Yes, if you don’t mind.”

With a childlike amazement, Luke glanced up at Shaurillin. The fairies did, in fact, raise their eyes in a magnificent way, as if they were all enormous.

Miro, who stood next to him, took half-steps back as well, and when he recognized the expression, he smiled warmly.

Then he was eager to criticize himself for avoiding the boy. Miro, who was gloomy, made another step back.

Apart from the fact that Shaurillin spoke quietly, he noticed Miro’s terrible agony.

“I’m the one who put a stop to your brother’s visit today; Miro, who had arrived early, discovered him in front of the office and served him tea; so, I came to the government office later than Miro, but sooner than Katlena, and spoke with him before sending him back.”

“Oh…”

Luke apologized promptly after opening his mouth with a faceless expression.

“I’m sorry if I’ve caused you any inconvenience.”

“What do you mean, Luke? I’m just pleased to have a visitor for morning tea.”

“The morning that was always the same has become special because of you.”

Shaurillin, who responded gently, paused for a while before lowering his gaze.

As a fairy who regularly records six and a half feet, approximately 195 cm, casually, Shaurillin was one and a half feet taller than Luke, who was under grown.

His purple eyes were like lovely bowstrings hidden in golden eyelashes, and he could stare down at Luke without bending his back or neck. Shaurillin added with a generous voice, while Luke Mandera unintentionally stared at the fairy-like features.

“I understand his frustration at not being able to reach your opinion, but please don’t despise your brother’s worries too much; you may not like it at times, but brothers are always willing to sacrifice for each other.”

“You do realize that average brothers don’t do things like that, right?”

“Are you able to fight like regular brothers?”

“That isn’t true; I, too, can do anything for him.”

“Then the Mandera brothers enjoy a close friendship.”

Luke closed his mouth and looked a little uneasy when he heard that.

“You don’t want to ask me that.  Isn’t there something else? I’m sure your Excellency has no motive to become involved in the Mandera family’s brotherhood conflict.”

If Katlena wasn’t involved, that is. Luke made a valiant effort to absorb the background noises.

Shaurillin, on the other hand, who had eaten Luke’s words, appeared to understand them without problem. He responded by raising the corners of his mouth and asking.

“Do you believe that?”

“Please accept my apologies.”

“You’re not required to apologize.”

Shaurillin, who replied slowly, laughed out loud for a few while before saying this.

“Then I’d like to hear it. Actually, Luke thinks that’s what I intended to ask. What matters is what kind of conversation you imagined, not what I actually wanted to ask.”

Luke avoided eye contact by defensively lowering his pumpkin eyes and refusing to respond. He was well aware, though, that silence was not everything. The youngster finally mumbled something coldly.

“Allegations against Duchess Katlena are frequently misunderstood, regardless of what my brother stated; Duchess Katlena simply saved me and offered me a new life…”

“Isn’t Luke aware that expressing that is useless to those who question mental control?”

“Shaurillin.”

Miro’s breath was blocked by the rapidly fierce air, which had been stepping back, with a cruel call. Shaurillin motioned discreetly at the time when Miro covered his lips with a cough. Miro approached him, trembling.

Miro choked as he neared Shaurillin, Luke Mandera standing next to him. However, there was a nice breeze blowing at the time.

Miro had already been guarded by a long-lived white fairy. Miro Rosway moved silently to hide his tear-streaked face, showing his back to Luke Mandera.

Luke was staring at Shaurillin’s face rather than making a little gesture on the other side of him or an agitated gesture that couldn’t be hidden.

For a brief moment, the pumpkin-colored eyes flickered with evident hostility. Shaurillin was greeted with hatred in one body, but recognized that it was not flesh.

Luke was neither a killer nor a monster. As a result, even if the weapon was a similar murder that would have been labeled as such, it was not uncommon for Roschodur noblemen to commit such crimes.

By all accounts, he is only a devoted servant of a hypocrite. I simply follow my owner’s instructions. And with a colossal amount of power at his disposal.

It was simply because Luke was the youngest of the canines and was given special attention by the family.

The white fairy concluded the human-style estimate quickly and spoke again in a calm tone.

“I don’t believe Katlena employed a specific method to sway your mind or that your loyalty was twisted in any manner.”

With a determined attitude, Shaurillin cut Luke’s words. He drew his gaze away from Luke, who raised his head.

“One of the reasons is that I believe Katlena will not do that, but for more objective reasons, I know that magic doesn’t work that way, especially if it’s like Katlena’s magic, which can’t have that effect. I hope you don’t forget. I came to the land of man on my own, and I am somehow welcomed by you, but I am probably an outsider forever.”

The white fairy then softly inquired.

“Do you think you’d like to talk to me again?”

And Luke Mandera’s response to that question was most likely unique and unusual. He struggled to make the same humiliation look that his brother had made in response to Shaurillin’s too thin demeanor.

“I’m afraid I won’t be able to provide any information about Duchess Katlena to your Excellency.”

“If so, will you answer one question? I left this place 15 years ago, but it was not accepted at the time that such an incident had occurred. Luke.”

Shaurillin inquired, his tongue hanging for a moment.

“Can you tell me about the incident in which you almost died?”

When Luke was given that question, he was torn between two opinions. Luke was on the verge of making a decision when Katlena offered them a look to return following a talk with Sia.

Luke’s boundaries have been compounded by the pressure that this quiet communication will soon be cut off, and the relief that Katlena would now answer instead. With a wary demeanor, the child responded.

“I was alive, but frozen.”

Just a little, the fact itself appears to be suspicious. Surprisingly, the tone with which he spoke it reminded him of Isaac.

“In general, I deserve to die… And, for the first time, a miracle happened to me: Katlena melted me and allowed me to see the light of the world once more. It’s not as pointless, absurd, or incongruous as you believe.”

Luke added, his voice firm and confident.

“It was just charity.”

In fact, the response was sufficient. Shaurillin Inborgia, at least, was in this situation.

“Ah, I see.”

As a result, he responded generously like this. Thank you so much.

“Luke, you must have put forth a lot of effort; the adversity you’ve faced in your brief existence breaks my heart…”

Shaurillin gave a small but noticeable smile. Affectionate and bored altruism were locked in the shape of a bow like his eyes behind the contradicting smile. The fairy whispered.

“I don’t think Isaac and you want to talk about the details, so I won’t ask. It’s probably a close call from the Mandera family. I’m guessing, too. However, if you have a problem in the future, and if you feel like it, please consult with me. Because I won’t ask you for more explanation. I am a person who protected the Elves’ holy place, and I have at least that much understanding of magic. That’s how I’ve spent my entire life. I’m sorry, but I can’t ignore you. If you’re worried, you can come to me after receiving Katlena’s approval, but…”

After a little while, he added kindly.

“First and foremost, Isaac’s misunderstanding of my magic will be minimal, but I’ll do my best to resolve it; however, you should speak with your brother separately; everything ultimately boils down to different outcomes depending on what you’re aiming for. Take it easy, Luke; you’re still young, and everyone is ready to protect you.”

It would ultimately be up to Luke Mandera, a 16-year-old, to assess the authenticity of his words.

Luke Mandera’s pumpkin eyes lifted confusedly toward the white fairy for a minute, knowing that the horse would function like that even if he wasn’t confident of independently establishing the horse’s validity.

His attention, however, had to immediately return to the ground. Katlena Agreta approached them and urged them to move to the restaurant as soon as possible.

Luke Mandera, on the other hand, had to recall Katlena’s directions while rushing toward the restaurant she suggested.

Behind a complete smile, it appears that there was a humble luring affection that could not be cleverly masked by other modifiers.

Or perhaps it was alluring. Just a smidgeon. It’s a horse, of course.

***

Shaurillin believed everything was going  smoothly.

At the supper with Katlena, there was no particular story.

Only Luke and Miro were afraid of what might come out of the conversation, but Shaurillin and Katlena remained light and nice to each other as they had been in recent years.

It was also suspicious to Shaurillin.

Shaurillin’s lack of consideration and emotional kindness toward Katlena is both natural and justified.

Shaurillin won’t declare he wants to assist them by bringing up arrogant and unimportant terms that he shouldn’t dare to bring up, but if they utilize old languages and express them, Shaurillin’s proper role was to assist them.

Shaurillin was willing to try to understand Katlena if she agreed, and he was always willing to assist her if she needed it. He was the one who abandoned her in the dirt without a guardian, and he had already moved 18 years ago, determined to endure the full brunt of his decision.
