Since I Wasn’t a Saint, I Decided to Become a Cook at the Royal Palace!

Rina is being taken to the room where she’ll be appraised by Prince Süzer and Tarr. She saw a lot of things as they were moving through the royal palace on the way there.

This is because she had only seen those things on TV.

The royal palace itself is a fortress built in the medieval European style. Furthermore, it radiates elegance without being ostentatious. There are no extraneous furnishings.

Refined items are only displayed in exquisite places. Even Rina, who doesn’t understand anything of this sort, couldn’t help it but be fascinated.

“Umm… How much can an appraisal tell us, by the way?”

“An appraisal crystal only reveals a person’s simplified health status, magical aptitude, magical attributes, and abilities. You won’t learn a person’s specific details unless an appraisal spell is used so don’t be concerned about it.” Tarr patiently explained to me. 

Unless an appraisal spell is used, huh? Is there magic for appraisal?

“So why not check using magic?” Rina asked without thinking.

Prince Süzer answered, “However, didn’t you say that you disliked other people to know specific details about you?”

“Yes, of course…”

Prince Süzer continued with a chuckle, “Additionally, appraisal magic varies according to the individual, just like any other magic; thus, there are things we can see and things we can’t.”

Prince Süzer smiled upon observing Rina’s reaction.

While Rina was asking, they got to their destination. As soon as they stood in front of the door, Tarr opened it slowly.

When Prince Süzer urged her to enter the room, she briefly experienced a chill. Although the room itself is not particularly chilly, she experienced a strange sensation on her skin.

Even though it’s not as dark as the room where I was called, the room also has dim lighting.

In the center of the room about thirty tatami mats wide, there’s a black crystal-like pedestal positioned.

Nothing else is seen in the room.

What a lavish use of the room. Is that much space even required?

“Now, Rina. Please touch the crystal ball in front of you.”

Prince Süzer, who is standing one step away from the pedestal, encourages Rina.

A half-buried crystal ball, which is the appraisal crystal, was sitting atop on the top right side of the pedestal. There is enough room in front of it to place a sheet of paper.

I believe the space was intended for writing or putting anything.

“Ummm… will it hurt?”

The electric current that is coursing through the crystal ball makes me nervous.

Prince Süzer reassured her with a smile, “You won’t feel any pain. Perhaps, you’ll only feel a little warm, that’s all.” 

“Well, let me give you a demonstration since this will be your first time using it,” Tarr said as he placed his hand on the appraisal ball.

A gentle light instantly envelops his palm as soon as his hand touches it.

A pop up screen appears on top of the pedestal.

What is this neo-futuristic game-like world? I’m very thrilled!

I mean, isn’t it incredible that Tarr has so many different attributes?

Eh? He can use appraisal?

Additionally, it states that he possesses skills aside from appraisal.

Rina keeps a neutral expression, and makes sure not to show her excitement

This is much better than the meals of this world.

“Ahh, but, there are no levels or anything similar to that,” muttered Rina.

I was told that I read too much manga and light novels. Actually, a LV 50 would appear to be indicated directly next to the attributes in this scenario.

“A level… you say?” 

Prince Süzer was curious after hearing her murmur, so he asked.

“Eh? Ahh, I’m… sorry… there’s a book… in the place I came from that depicts those…” Rina lied.

There’s no way I’ll tell him that it was from a fictional world.  If I do, I’ll get embarrassed.

“I see… that certainly looks helpful, however… even though both levels are equal, that doesn’t matter because it relies on how a person uses their magic and skills.”

Prince Süzer gently continued, “If you have to choose between magic and stamina or skill, which one do you think is more important?”

“Magic and stamina…”

“For instance, you won’t have any talent to use the magic even though it is at level 100. At other times, your body and mind won’t be able to handle it when your stamina is only at level ten. In addition, just because you’ve done the same action doesn’t mean that everyone can. So, am I right in thinking that ‘level’ is merely a standard value?” 

“That’s right…” Rina agreed.

While it’s true that everyone has a different method for improving, there are already differences in talent.

Standard value is a suitable name.

Just because a person can see their magical abilities, that doesn’t mean that they have the talent to use it.

Rina found herself agreeing to it.
