Sky Fall Legend

161 Sigma's Farewell 7 *Finale*

"Rihkaahh!"

Three of the seven wing glyphs tore through the onslaught of firebirds and blasted into the Temple Shepherd's back. The terrifying curse art lacerated the flesh of Erykah Maat, who had just exhausted all of his momentum in the previous attack. From Erykah's body burst furious vermillion flames that coalesced into a meter long vermillion bird. The force of the vermillion flames completely dispelled the remaining power of the cursed art. The Temple Shepherd frowned with no time to feel relief. Hieroglyphics depicting three sharp feathers surrounding a green heart appeared right above his actual heart on his chest.

"Pah! The Vermillion Bird bloodline truly lives up to its name," Garuda spat out blood and sneered as he acknowledged Erykah Maat's strength. He wasn't the strongest of the Northern Temple for no reason. To think, the Vermillion Bird lifeblood within him could manifest itself outside of the body! This was probably something only a Magus Legend Sage rank could do normally.

"Thinking about it further, Erykah Maat is a Celestial Essence Body at the basic Psychopath Saint rank. Maybe it's not unusual for him to possess this ability." Garuda mused to himself as he stared menacingly at this powerful foe, making and hand seal. It had been a rushed exchange where Garuda possessed the upper hand, yet the Temple Shepherd still overpowered him! It would be hard to get such a good opportunity like that again.

Luckily, his curse still managed to infect the opponent.

"Benefactor Garuda, you have actually tainted the temple of this old monk," Erykah Maat tore off his vermillion priest robes and revealed a frame of metallic like muscles, sharpened extensively. He was covered in jewels and gold, all combat gear of the highest grade. Merely, on his chest lay the curse mark given to him by Garuda. After Garuda's hand seal, the three wings revealed blades of curse qi. As time progressed they slowly started rotating, closing in on the green heart. However, the Temple Shepherd only brought his hands together and smiled, as if he were saying a happy prayer, "There is such great vengeance in benefactor's heart. To know Buddha is to know love. Since killing is in your heart, I will show you the love of killing. Unfortunately, you have underestimated not only the Vermillion Bird God but supreme power that is Buddha. Amitabha."

A golden light suddenly radiated from Erykah Maat's body, causing Garuda to frown.

"Fuck! Is this?" Garuda recognized the origin of this ability and couldn't let it continue. He vanished from where he stood and instantly sent out another barrage of attacked and curses.

"Before the light of Buddha, how can darkness persist?" Erykah Maat's voice became low and dignified. His volume also increased tenfold as it blasted across the sky. An illusory gate of destiny appeared being Erykah Maat and crept open slightly. Erykah Maat's Karmic Wheel appeared above his closed hands. Seeing the mystic dial pointed toward the land of bliss, the Temple Shepherd smiled brilliantly. Terrifying waves of golden fate qi blasted into Erykah Maat's body, filling him with golden light and temporarily increasing his saint cultivation.

"You forced me to do this!" to the Temple Shepherd's abject shock, Garuda didn't seem flustered at all.

Rather his face was deathly solemn and determined. This was the face of a man ready to die. If fact, Garuda appeared to be aging before his very eyes. Erykah had a bad feeling about those eyes.

Garuda ignored his shock and felt determined to extract all of the bastard's vital life qi. He didn't hesitate to sacrifice 150 years of his life span to activate the third stage of his Wings of Oblivion secret art, "Blood is delicious and carnage is king. Mercy is vicious. OBLIVION WING!!"

"KRAAAW~!"A ninth wing made of pure fate qi appeared on Garuda's back as his aura exploded upward. His form started to shift and his body grew until he transformed into and ten-meter tall black-golden nine-winged great roc with steel-like feathers, and sharper talons. Even the seven-winged necklace around his neck transformed into a nine-winged necklace around the great roc's neck. He looked like a mystic beast out of legend.

"True law manifestation. To think that his secret art would allow him to tap into this level." Erykah Maat marveled in appreciation. True law manifestation was the level of wizardry. Erykah Maat didn't believe he could do so before the Disaster rank without his Vermillion Bird bloodline. Even the Vermillion Bird manifestation from his bloodline paled in comparison to Garuda's current form. The Sky Fall Pharaoh's ancient pyramid certainly had some amazing secrets hidden within. "If I possessed this secret skill, perhaps I could truly vie for the vacant Pope position… but you didn't make it easy, did you sworn brother?"

Secret Arts were unique in that they couldn't be passed on. The only way to inherit a secret art was to absorb it directly from the dead host. Even then, the secret art had to choose its next host, it couldn't be forcibly obtained. The only other things in this world that held such an ability were origin wands.

Garuda's strength completely eclipsed Erykah Maat's previous impression of him. Catching an opponent off guard was indeed a key to victory. Last time they fought and before Garuda had time to ascend to this form, Erykah Maat had flattened him like a pancake with overwhelming force. This time the Temple Shepherd felt compelled to go all out.

"Flaming wind blades, obliviate!" Garuda flaps his wings and almost instantly appeared 20 meters above the Temple Shepherd. Fierce gusts of flaming blade qi rained down on Erykah Maat who was bathed in the golden light of destiny's gate. The black light of oblivion qi coated each of the giant bird man's movements. However, Garuda didn't stop there. Billowing Voodoo qi, venom qi, fire qi, and wind qi filled the atmosphere as he unleashed a series of mystic arts that all spiraled toward his opponent with terrible force, "Nightmare Wing, obliviate! Venomous Eel Curse Art! Fire Typhoon, obliviate!"

"You are a worthy opponent for this old monk. If we are fated to meet again, it must mean that I have failed my karmic battle and will meet you in hell," Erykah Maat stood in the middle of the golden light with his arms crossed, completely calm. His powerful pure fire essence fused once more with the surrounding golden qi of destiny. The void trembled as a sliver of celestial qi escaped the Temple Shepherd's body and seem to completely devour the surrounding forces, expanding until it formed and majestic and powerful white combat rod covered in golden symbols. "However, even if we never meet again, the light of Buddha must still send you on your way."

"Naive. Do you think your Heaven's Mantle can save you now!?" scowled Garuda as he attacked with all of his might.

"Heaven's Mantle? Your understanding is truly pitiable," Erykah Maat reached out his left hand and tightly grasped the polearm and his battle power nearly tripled. Feeling this new level of spiritual pressure, fear colored Garuda's eyes for the first time. Erykah Maat closed his eyes slowly and sighed, "From the moment I arrive in the south, this battle was fated. It is your destiny to be obliterated at my hands. I must do it thoroughly so that I am worthy of the treasure you leave behind."

According to Sigma Octanis, the Wings of Oblivion Secret Art would only follow those with avian prowess willing to embrace destruction. This much was obvious from its name.

"Do not compare me to typical saints. I am a celestial body, and this is my Celestial Hand - THE EDIFYING ROD!" as Erykah Maat spoke the last three words, his eyes snapped open shining with a merciless light. He brandished his Celestial Hand and struck out. The white rod expanded to have a 30-meter radius as it barreled toward the terrified Garuda amidst golden flames that eroded all of the voodoo qi.

"I WON'T LET YOU!" Garuda had completely lost his mind at this moment. The strength of the attack in front of him was unfathomable. He made hand seals more rapidly than he had ever done in his life, the black light of oblivion completely sealing the space around him. "DOOR OF OBLIVION!"

Garuda seemed to age into an elderly man as he activated the Wings of Oblivion's forbidden combat skill - The Door of Oblivion. The black light coalesced into a 2.5-meter tall door of light. A black beam of qi the size of the door blasted out, colliding with the Edifying Rod in mid-air.

*DOOOM~!*

The entire Blackheart City trembled under the force of that impact. Many mortals in the Middle District burst into pools of blood and even the cultivators below had trouble dealing with the aftershocks. On the roof of Golden District's governmental building stood an imposing and sinister-looking robust man surrounded by a group of shadow guards. His face was contorted into an ugly frown.

"Is this the strength of a legendary saint?" Dark Emissary Luther White was completely displeased with this outcome. "But why would a Temple Shepherd of Divine Bird Country interfere with our White Demon Castle's business? Does he want to start a new holy war?"

Luther couldn't figure out how Sigma had lured such an ally to his side. They were not supposed to have such a powerful opponent during this operation, the biggest obstacle in their path should have been Sigma Octanis. With Garuda plus Supreme Elder Kyle Mercy, Luther White should have been able to slaughter Deity Succubus alone without a worry. Now, Sigma's agents were assisting Deity Succubus' subordinate guild of women and causing a lot of flaws to appear. Luther White prepared to go take out Sigma's people and the leaders of the Dark Valkyries himself when he felt the terrifying battle fluctuations in the air. Worse, even on Sigma's side, there were nearly equally powerful clashes of strength.

Sigma Octanis was a mere Silver Mage! How could he flatten a fallen like Prop Uganda and still have the strength to face a Prism Mage on equal footing?

"We may have underestimated these two warriors, but the city falling is no longer something they can stop. At this point, they're simply fighting to survive," Luther White sneered, but didn't make any rash movements. He needed to understand the current circumstances better. "We may need to cut our losses soon. However, Sigma Octanis must die today!"

Meanwhile, Sigma Octanis was not the least bit surprised about Erykah Maat going all out to kill Garuda. After all, he only convinced the Temple Shepherd to come to the south Ward by enticing him with the Wings of Oblivion Secret Art.

The Temple Shepherd lost interest when he defeated Garuda so easily before, thinking that the Wings of Oblivion Secret Art was only that much. However, after witnessing the secret art's true might, Erykah Maat killing Garuda was a foregone conclusion. Sigma never doubted this would be the outcome. In addition, he simply didn't fear Kyle Mercy at all.

After fighting the legend first hand, Kyle Mercy also felt that the threat known as Sigma Octanis had to be eliminated at any and all cost. Feeling the energy fluctuations coming from Garuda's direction, the Supreme Elder knew that the situation did not look good. After receiving the sixth-star magic spell, Kyle Mercy suffered mild injuries but this wasn't the worst part.

"Glaciate!" Sigma Octanis took advantage of Kyle Mercy's absence to eliminate the latter's steed. Sigma slammed his bone staff down on a magic step circle and the mirrors surrounding the Zombra released terrifyingly chilly energy. The flaming skeletal horse quickly froze over before dissipating into origin qi that Sigma destroyed.

"Ack! Cough, cough, you dead bastard!" Kyle Mercy coughed out an arrow of blood after his combat entity was destroyed. The backlash was significant, but he didn't have time to worry about that. If only Kyle hadn't been so arrogant, if only he had prepared a few sixth-star curses before arriving. However, there was no pill for regret.

"This ends now!" Sigma's powerful voice echoed throughout Blackheart City. All the experts inadvertently looked to the sky to see a man that looked like a werewolf with starlight fur. To Kyle Mercy's abject horror, within Sigma's atmosphere were two quad-layered arcane circles.

"Qu… quad… it can't be… Impossible! THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!" Kyle Mercy felt so completely flabbergasted that he didn't immediately register the danger he was in. Of course, no defense he raised would have mattered anyway.

"Eighth Star Magic Spell: Blizzard of the Broken Moon!" as Sigma's voice sounded, the quad-layered magic circles released pink and golden light before a hurricane of serene frost and infinite ice sealed the two fighters in the sky in a world of snow. The fighters below couldn't see what was happening in this sphere of snow, but they were able to see and enormous purple-gold blade of ice shaped like a crescent moon forming in the sky above the snow sphere. once fully formed, the crescent broke about into millions of shards that zoomed toward the same location.

"NOOOOO~!" A dreadful scream accompanied sickening sounds of lacerated flesh and collapsing bones. This lasted for a full three minutes before the giant snow sphere started to slowly dissipate. Sigma Octanis floated slowly back down to his tower in the Golden District, disappearing within.

"Argh," Sigma groaned with a pale face and collapsed to his knees once he entered his office. "This world curse is truly on another level. If I don't leave soon I'll really die. This curse must have a more powerful effect on more powerful people."

Sigma withdrew a galaxy pouch and parchment from his spatial ring. He withdrew the spatial belt he stole from the deceased Kyle Mercy and placed it into the galaxy pouch. Sigma sat down at his desk and swiftly wrote a message before setting his spatial ring on top of the note. He then used his spiritual consciousness to carve hieroglyphs on another roll of paper before rolling the galaxy pouch up inside. He then sealed both rolls of parchment into a black box. Only someone with a stronger soul than his own would be able to open this box.

The only three people Sigma had met on this planet that possessed a stronger soul than his own were Pharaoh King Thoth, Pharaoh King Anubis, and his apprentice Jodye Trill. He didn't doubt that the latter would know how to open it. That kid knew everything. Sigma took out a talisman and attached it to the black box. Once the corresponding talisman was activated, the talisman and whatever was attached to them would switch places.

After all of this was done, Sigma let out a heavy sigh.

"Ah… it seems this is all that I can do for now. A pity the strength of this world curse makes it difficult to even breath properly. In another hour, I won't even have the strength to protect myself in space while the restriction is removed. I will leave the rest to Cassan."

Sigma picked up an opal stone with a soul symbol in the middle and used it to send Cassan several voice transmissions. After doing this, he stood straight and tall as he looked out the window. His eyes seemed to zoom in on a beautiful blonde-haired woman in the middle district. He smiled slightly, as a white light spread from the void to surround his entire body.

"Farewell, Ancient Life Star Great Gaea. Until we meet again..." and in a flash of light, Sigma Octanis had vanished entirely from this world.

In the ruins of the Middle District's governmental building, the Dark Valkyrie Guild had the entire area sealed off as they eliminated the remaining voodoo practitioners and fiend menace. A beautiful and voluptuous dark-skinned woman with a piercing gaze stood amid a group of bound and gagged Voodoo Priests. She had a large scar on her cheek but it did not manage to diminish her outstanding appearance in the slightest. In fact, it gave her a wild flavor. Those bound experts of the unorthodox path had been flayed, maimed, and tortured in various ways. They mostly looked pathetic and dispirited, but a few looked downright desperate.

"Layla, your Dark Valkyrie Guild has not disappointed me at all in this operation," the dark-skinned beauty spoke aloud, seemingly to herself. The void in front of her rippled and out walked a blond-haired woman of nearly equal beauty. She possessed a naturally regal and elegant air, as she walked toward the dark-skinned beauty.

"You flatter me, Mistress Azura. We are but tools at your disposal," Layla replied with deep respect in her voice.

"You served me well," Azura nodded her head solemnly. "I didn't need to make a move at all until that last Voodoo Priest. However, the assistance we acquired from your hubby's operatives proved invaluable. I do not like our debt to him."

"He loves me," Layla blushed and looked away, doing her best to remain aloof. "He would never turn the blade on us."

"Yes, unless of course, one day we point the blade at your neck," after Azura spoke these words, Layla shivered imperceptibly. Azura didn't mind it and proceeded. "If that happens we will receive his full and complete vengeance. Is it worth it?"

Layla was silent and felt bitter. In truth, Azura had placed a slave mark in her origin sea long ago. As Layla's strength increased, due in large part to Sigma's assistance, the slave mark had started to lose its strength. Her deep resentment for this slave mark would surely erupt in full one day. On that day, would she still be a member of Deity Succubus?

"Anyway, there's no way a Silver Mage could possess so much power even at the peak. Lord Heavenly Dog is indeed extraordinary." Azura commented as she watched the skies. "A pity that such strength usually comes with extreme consequences."

"Have you gathered the intel we need?" asked Layla indifferently, no longer pursuing topics related to her man.

"Yes, yes," Azura smiled with her eyes closed. She motioned toward the tortured men with a nod. "They were quite talkative after a little… incentive. Those items were already lost by White Serpent Cove months ago. In fact, it's related to the disappearance of Oulan Mercy. The last person to see Oulan alive is said to be related to Sigma as well."

"Oh?" Layla was obviously surprised to hear this piece of information. "Should I try to meet with that person?"

"Hmph," Azura snorted unhappily. "Do you truly think anyone who knows that items worth would admit to having it? No, I need to get my hands on that boy myself while Sigma is still preoccupied. I only need you to discern his location from your hubby."

Layla pulled out her serene sound mirror and attempted to contact Sigma through a true essence transmission, but received an error alert. Layla frowned. This only happened if the corresponding device no longer existed or existed outside of the range of communication.

"No... he didn't, why would he..." Layla looked toward that luxurious building in the Golden District with extreme melancholy in her heart.

'Did he really... do this for me? So is he just gone now? Back to the outer worlds? Did he not care to see me first? Didn't he say he should have 24 hours after breaking through the world curse? Is he injured somehow? Will he make it home okay?'

Layla would have never imagined that the one Sigma really did this for was not only her but also his apprentice who had gotten caught up in this whirlwind without even knowing! Azura saw the dazed look in her disciple's eyes and knew something bad must have happened. However, never would she have imagined that Sigma Octanis was an alien from another world.
