Sleeping Next to the Pirate King
57 Runaway fiancé PT3
I backed away as I fell on back in the pier boardwalk. My heart beat accelerated as I looked at the smirking face of the Marquis in front of me. What the hell? How did he get here so fast? Weston and Baron backed up to stand in front of me. The Marquis opened a small pocket watch and clicked it closed. Five guards stood next to him as he held the bounty for Baron's arrest.
"Oh my dear Mila, aren't you quite the lying bitch of a daughter-in-law?"
This was probably the first time in my life that I had ever been speechless. I was in too much shock to process his words. I had just seen the Marquis a couple of minutes ago, so how was it that he got here before me? What the fuck was going on?
The Marquis knelt in front of me as he threw Baron's bounty on my face.
"Too late Mila, I was actually considering giving you half of the bounty. Too bad you made the wrong choice. All of you go ahead and take Baron away. The Duke of Belthram will be quite pleased to see his dear killer of a son once more."
I looked up to see Baron struggle against the guards. I turned to see that all of the crew members as well as Francois were tied together in a group with rope. I sighed. We were actually doomed. I seem to have underestimated the Marquis. The Marquis then leaned in and said.
"You lost Mila. Admit that and I might spare your life and that of your crew members."
"Get away from her!"
Baron's words seemed meaningless as the guards started to tie him up. I sighed and said to the Marquis.
"You win Marquis. If you take Baron can I be assured of my safety and that of my crew?"
The Marquis smiled as he stood up.
"But of course my dear Mila. I don't go back on your word compared to how you do."
I nodded as I turned to see Baron's dejected look. Sorry Baron but this was meant to happen sooner or later.
Sooner or later.
The Marquis's guards released me and Weston as they started cutting the rope which held my crew members. I turned to look at Baron who glared back at me. I smiled. Baron looked at me confused. I winked at him then walked up to the Marquis.
I then curtsied to the Marquis.
"I would like to thank you for your hospitality and the kindness you showed us while we resided in your mansion. I will be sure to tell the Duke of Avalon of this."
The Marquis chuckled as he patted my shoulder.
"It was no problem at all Mila. Enjoy your trip to Avalon."
I nodded and walked back to the ship with Weston. Weston stares at me bewildered as he looked back at Baron.
"Hey Mila are you actually going to let them take Baron just like that?"
I chuckled.
"Who said that I was?"
Weston looked at me in confusion as a scream filled the pier. I took out my pocket sized clock. It was time.
"Josh and Ash could you guys please release Baron?"
"How fucking stupid do you think I am? I have already figured out the fact that you would send a double in your place at the "engagement party" due to your suspicions of me. You had thought that if you took a couple of your guards to the pier and waited here before I come you would have the upper hand. Guess what asshole, no matter what I will always be a step ahead of you. Knowing that you would act like this I had my crew members disguise themselves as your guards while you slept. In this way you wouldn't realize it. After all jerks like you only look at your guards as objects not people. In the end my dear Marquis you were the one who had lost. I do not take back my thanks for your hospitality. I would also like to say that you have kept my time here quite enjoyable. And for that I am grateful. Your official guards should be arriving here soon. Have a nice life Mr. Marquis."
Baron, Weston, and I boarded the ship. The crew members mingled around as they threw the ropes holding the ship to the pier off. I waved at the Marquis who sat on the pier in shock as the boat started to move father and farther away from the pier towards the east.
I sighed as I rested my arms on the railing of the ship. My head ached as I looked at the disappearing village in Ireland. The sun was setting allowing for a kaleidoscope if oranges, yellows, and pinks to adorn the sky. It was quite beautiful. I felt a hand touch my back. I turned to look at a smiling Baron. He leaned on the railings next to me. A slight breeze blew through moving Baron's hair slightly to the side. His green eyes sparkled like emeralds above his perfect straight nose. I turned my blushing face as he caught me staring. Baron chuckled.
"Well it seems like you've had quite some fun with the Marquis Mila."
I laughed as I answered.
"He was the greedy bastard. He deserved what he got for underestimating me."
"Well it seems like we are finally going to set sail towards the Bermuda Triangle."
I nodded at what Baron had said. For some reason something in my heart told me that our trip to Bermuda Triangle is going to be more dangerous than I hope for it to be. As the ship sailed on the calm waters I sighed. I really do miss my life back home. I wonder if I'm ever going to go back home. I wonder what it is that I need to go back home. I looked down at my hands as I exhaled. To be honest I haven't fully processed the fact that I've actually reincarnated/time traveled to be here. As I turned to look at Baron a thought filled my head. Why was it that Baron talked normally compared to people of e 1650's? Is it because he is a noble?
Baron turned to look at me. He smiled as he swept the hair back from my forehead. He then leaned in and kissed the top of my forehead.
"This is a reward for your hard work."
I chuckled. Just for now I will ignore my doubts and suspicions and give in to Baron's sweet behavior.
As I looked at the speck of a place which we used to be, I felt a sort of anxiety. There are too many questions that are unanswered. I hope that this expedition to the Bermuda Triangle could provide the answers. I closed my eyes and breathed in the salty air. For now, let's just stop thinking.
I'm so exhausted. I stepped back and laid on the deck. The expansive sky above stretching endlessly. The whole atmosphere made me feel relaxed. A creaking sound filled my ears as I turned to see Baron lay down next to me. I smiled as I closed my eyes. I wonder what the future holds for me. No matter what it is I can't wait.
