Soul For A Girlfriend?

Chapter 253: Wish That Needs to be Fulfilled

Lilith's POV

Saishi was at school, though looking at the time, it appeared like it was his last period. But since he wasn't at home, it was the best opportunity for me. I know what I had to do.

I strolled out of his bedroom and crept towards the kitchen. It wasn't an arduous task, but I sure needed to be careful about it. I didn't want him to know that I was there.

I remember Saishi telling me about the fight between him and Shiraishi last week. Though it was quite premeditated by him since he was trying to manipulate her into growing attached to him.

Saishi was actually quite a ruthless guy.

He was willing to do anything to complete the contract. Despite his desperation, it wasn't like his actions were sloppy or clumsy. He was a cynical and cold minded person. Each step he took was well thought out.

He was aware of the effect he had on some girls, and he was making use of it to its fullest extent.

I wonder why he ended up becoming like this.

I have peered into his eyes on several occasions. He was like a hollow shell. Devoid of any emotions and human touch, but still thriving for something with quite the dedication that he wouldn't stop unless he has achieved that.

Before this contract, he was leading quite a simple life. He had a few friends and had no interest in love whatsoever. Yet he was curious to understand the concept of love.

It was contradictory of him.

He wanted to feel love, but he was inside his shell so far down that nothing could affect him. He was, to some extent, emotionally unavailable.

He never once cared for any target until that point. Even with Tsubakihara, it seemed like he was starting to like her, but as soon as the contract was done; he cut off all connections with her.

Almost as if he would just flip a switch of emotions inside him.

What he cared for was only completing the contract and I was relieved at his perspective. He was a work orientated man with his eyes only toward the goal.

I liked this side of him.

It was time to eat the snacks he had hidden from me.

I looked around and noticed the high shelves. He always keeps the good snacks there since I can't reach there.

Nevermind, he was a certified jerk.

I looked around and my eyes fell on the chair kept near the kitchen counter. A smile formed on my face as I strolled towards it. As Iwas about to touch it, a weird jolt travelled from my arms to my entire body.

What the hell was that?

I retracted my arms back immediately.

There was something wrong with the target's mana. For some reason, it was fluctuating very rapidly. But this was the first time that a target was acting weird.

I was confused.

I could feel the change in the target's mana, but I could particularly pinpoint what was happening. For that, I needed to concentrate more and cast another spell to freely maneuver through the mana readings.

I remember being agitated at that moment. I was trying to calm myself down and think straight for a moment, but sheer desperation was taking over me.

I had never faced anything like this, so I naturally became worried about it.

I was finally so close to my goal, yet I felt like I was starting to stray further from it with each passing second. I have been feeling this way ever since my health was deteriorating and for some reason, I could seem to shake off this feeling.

Something was trying to interfere in my way.

Or someone.

But who could be doing this? I couldn't think of anyone in particular.

Even if I was thinking of him, it wouldn't make sense considering what my only wish was. Stopping me from completing this contract would entirely contradict his reasons for doing what he had done that day.

Though thinking about it wouldn't have been useful at the moment.

I quickly paced back to his room and closed the curtains of his window. I had no other choice than to use the spell to specifically acquire the knowledge about the target.

Straightening my right palm, I slightly bend the index finger down and cast the spell, "Oilevatte!"

As usual, a yellow magic circle appeared in front of my hands and the engraved spells started rotating inside it. I haven't been using many spells since I entered the human realm because I had limited mana at times.

The circle vanished and the distorted figure of the mana inside the target displayed in front of my eyes.

The mana reading was everywhere, though. At one moment, it was calm as the ocean but the very next moment it was fluctuating like water rising during a tsunami. And a few times, the mana completely vanished from the radar.

That was quite unnatural.

The mana disappearing meant that the soul inside her left her body. But that wasn't the case, considering how it was returning the very next moment.

This was the first time a target was acting like this.

The figure of the mana suddenly started to glow brightly. I narrowed my eyes at the sight but with an ear screeching noise, the spell suddenly wore off and I got a rush of headache for a moment.

I was not able to use spells with as much proficiency as I could a few months ago. Thanks to Saishi for supplying me with his mana, but I haven't yet recovered completely from my mana deterioration.

I decided not to tell Saishi about this, but to keep observing the target for a few more days. Things were getting interesting, and it seemed like situations boiled down to me entering the arena too.

I wouldn't let anything or anyone come in my way this time.

Only then I could have my wish fulfilled.
