Special District 9

Chapter 120: Standstill

Qin Yu was holding onto his phone as he asked, “Uncle Li, I’m not able to contact the other side. Did something happen?”

“I was not the one who got him. I’m also not too sure what the current situation is at the moment,” Superintendent Li replied worriedly. “For the time being, you should find a place to hide and wait for the other side to respond. My friend won’t sabotage us. Even if the plan wouldn’t work out, he’ll still make sure to inform us about it.”

“Alright then.”

Even though Qin Yu was feeling extremely nervous on the inside, he was in no place to tell Superintendent Li what to do. So, he could only remind with a deep sigh, “Our men are still out in the open, and we’re close to where the fight occurred. It’s unlikely that we’ll be able to hide for too long. We need the other side to reply quickly.”

“Got it.”

“Un, that’s all for now.”

After the two of them finished communicating with one another, they hung up the phone.

In the car, Yong Dong came down and asked with a frown, “When can we leave?”

“Some problems cropped up,” Qin Yu said. “We need to wait for a call.”

“Shit!” Yong Dong cursed in agitation. “You thought of how to fight, but you didn’t plan the getaway properly? You must be joking with me! Like I told you, Fatty Xing wields a lot of power in Fengbei! If you don’t leave tonight, you don’t have to dream of getting out of here your entire lifetime!”

Those words made Old Cat explode in rage. With a livid face, he bellowed, “Who the hell are you blaming over here? Don’t you know your own position here, huh?!”

Yong Dong glanced at Old Cat coldly and said, “Kid, I’m telling you…”

“Enough!” Qin Yu stopped the two of them impatiently. He turned to Yong Dong and said, “Just sit there quietly. I don’t need you to plan for how we leave, got it?”

Yong Dong gritted his teeth furiously before getting in the car with his two friends.

By the roadside, Qin Yu, Old Cat, and Old Ma began discussing with one another.

“Now that we can’t contact the fellow in charge of sending us out, what should we do?” Old Cat asked.

Old Ma pondered for a moment before replying, “We can’t afford to stay here for too long, and our cars are simply too visible. Even from 800 meters away, as long as there’s some light, they would be able to spot us easily.”

“Yeah, staying here isn’t a plan,” Qin Yu nodded in agreement. “The biggest problem is that we don’t know when we can get into contact with the fellow in charge of sending us out.”

Old Ma had weathered through many storms in the past, so he was able to keep his calm even in this situation. He thought for a moment before suggesting, “Let’s do away with our car first. We need to stay away from Nanyuan Residential Area. If the fellow still doesn’t contact us within three hours, we’ll move toward the city.”

“Move toward the city? Isn’t that courting death?” Old Cat exclaimed in astonishment. “Yuan Hua screwed up on this matter, and Fatty Xing didn’t manage to get his son back. They’re definitely doing all they can to hound us down right now! Besides, given the huge commotion that happened earlier, the security in the city must be really tight now. If we were to head back there, it’ll be tough for us to get out again. Besides, we don’t have anywhere to hide either!”

“I agree with Uncle Ma’s plan. We need to return to the city,” Qin Yu said. “Otherwise, once the sun rises, how the hell are we going to continue hiding here?”

“But where can we go in the city? There are too many of us here.”

“We’ll head back to the military training field,” Old Ma said calmly. “No one will think that we’ll head back there, including Old Li and the soldier who brought us there the previous time.”

Old Cat was taken aback by those words.

“Sounds like a plan,” Qin Yu nodded in approval.

“Alright, let’s get rid of our car then,” Old Ma told the crowd. “There’s no need to burn it. Let’s just throw it into a ditch or something.”

After they were done discussing, the three of them immediately got moving.

Prosperous Dragon Pharmaceuticals’ headquarters.

Yuan Hua charged in carelessly from the outside, and he headed right in the direction of the lift.

“Mr Yuan, please wait for a moment.” A well-built lad sitting at the receptionist desk stood up and stopped him. “Mr Xing isn’t around at the moment.”

“Help me give him a call. I just need to say a few words to him,” Yuan Hua grabbed the young lad as he spoke. “Brother, please help me.”

“My apologies, Mr Yuan, but I’m unable to contact Mr Xing too,” the lad shook his head and replied.

“Then… help me contact Mr Xing’s second son, Xing Zilin.”

“He isn’t around either.”

“What about Peter?”

“…!” The young lad sighed deeply before addressing Yuan Hua directly, “Mr Yuan, Mr Xing intends for you to return to Songjiang first.”

Yuan Hua froze on the spot.

“What do you mean by this? You’re going to get rid of us after we paved the way?” Behind Yuan Hua, Baldie shouted furiously. “Just because we didn’t settle one matter properly, you’re going to deny all of the past successes we had? Have you forgotten who was the one who helped you to open Songjiang’s market?”

The young lad looked at Baldie and spoke with a smile, “Mister, I don’t understand what you have just said. I can only relay Mr Xing’s words to you.”

Yuan Hua gritted his teeth as he pulled Baldie back from doing anything. Then, he looked at the young lad and said, “Sorry to trouble you.”

“It’s fine.”

Several minutes later, at the Prosperous Dragon Pharmaceuticals’ main entrance, Baldie exclaimed furiously, “Fatty Xing is clearly trying to kick you out of the game!”

“Drive your car here. I won’t be going anywhere tonight. I’ll wait for him right here,” Yuan Hua said grimly.

“I’ll do it instead.”

“There’s no need for that. I need to do it myself,” Yuan Hua said with a wave of his hand.

At the same time…

In a residence located in the Garrison Barrack, Fatty Xing walked out of the door as he shook hands with the middle-aged man walking him out, saying, “I’ll be troubling you for this matter then.”

“Rest assured, I’ll make the call right away.”

“Once again, thanks a lot for today,” Fatty Xing said as he patted the other party’s shoulder. “You don’t have to walk me out. It’s cold out here.”

Two in the morning, the outdoor temperature had plummeted to an intolerable level.

Yong Dong was squatting inside a ditch with layers of clothes wrapped around him. With trembling cheeks, he turned to Qin Yu and said, “I-I’ll give you a suggestion.”

“What?” Qin Yu asked.

“If that fellow still doesn’t get back to us by tonight, let’s breach the fences instead,” Yong Dong said with a pale face. “We’ll get over the metal fence and pass through the radioactive area.”

“Are you mad?” Old Cat exclaimed with a frown. “Anyone caught cutting the fence will be immediately shot dead by the guards patrolling in the area! Furthermore, we don’t have any food at all. Passing through the radioactive area in our current state is no different from committing suicide!”

“There’s at least still a ray of hope if we were to go by there,” Yong Dong said insistently. “But if we don’t get out by tonight, we’ll definitely die in Fengbei. There’s no hope of escaping at all.”

Everyone fell silent.

“You don’t understand just the extent of influence that Fatty Xing wields here,” Yong Dong said grimly. “All it takes is a word from him, and all of the border guards and policemen would do him a favor. Once they start sweeping across the streets to dig us out, our days will really be numbered!”

Hearing those words, Guan Qi looked at Qin Yu nervously and asked, “Squad Leader, what should we do?”

“I’d rather eat a meal in Fengbei and be shot to my death than to pass through that darned radioactive area!” Old Cat exclaimed. “It’s hell in there!”

“My advice is to stay here too,” Old Ma nodded in agreement.

“Staying here means death!” Yong Dong emphasized with a low growl.

“Won’t we die if we were to head to the radioactive area too?”

“…!”
