Special District 9

Chapter 66: Winds of Change

The money from the Ma Family had been routed through two intermediaries before finally flowing into Coco’s account. With the deposit settled, Qin Yu and Qi Lin waited in anticipation for the goods to be sent over to Songjiang. They had already agreed that the first batch would be transported by Coco’s side.

Ten in the morning.

Qin Yu dialed Superintendent Li’s number. “Hello?”

“You have settled the matter?” Superintendent Li asked with a calm voice.

“Yes, we managed to settle it. The goods are on the way to Songjiang, and it should arrive four days later,” Qin Yu replied with a smile. “I have already informed Zhu Wei about it. Once the goods arrive, they’ll hold onto it temporarily before passing it on to the Ma Family.”

“Isn’t it risky to entrust so many goods over to Zhu Wei?” Superintendent Li asked worriedly.

“He’s trustworthy. He’s a member of the Squad 3, one of my men,” Qin Yu said confidently. “He was the one who saved me the last time when Yuan Hua tried to get me.”

“Since you know what you are doing, I won’t say too much about this matter then.” Superintendent Li nodded. “Clear up whatever that is left and come back quickly.”

“Understood, Superintendent Li.”

“You can call me Brother Li in the future.”

“…!” Qin Yu was stunned to hear those words.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Li had already hung up the phone.

Qin Yu held onto the phone in deep thoughts for a moment before chuckling softly. “Sigh, now that I have that half-witted Old Cat as my nephew, it looks like it’ll be tough on me in the future too.”

“What happened?” Qi Lin asked curiously.

“Nothing much, Old Li just told me to address him as a brother.”

“Ah. Can you ask him on my behalf if he’s still looking for any more brothers?”

“Haha!”

The two of them burst into laughter.

Superintendent Li was dressed in a prim and proper windbreaker as he walked out of his office. He turned to his secretary and instructed, “Give a call over to North Station and get them to arrange a cabin for me. I’ll be heading over to Fengbei.”

“Yes, sir,” the secretary replied with a nod.

Four in the afternoon, Superintendent Li sat on a train heading toward the capital of Special District 9, Fengbei City. Following that, he took a car over to the residence of a top-level official in the city.

Sitting beside an antique tea table on the second floor, Superintendent Li savored the aromatic tea before saying, “Teacher, I have really missed the tea you make.”

“I’ll make some for you to bring back to Songjiang,” an old man in his sixties said. “How has that been going?”

“It was a success,” Superintendent Li replied calmly. “Teacher, the Academic Faction has been rising through the ranks in the various departments, and a few of their leaders have also worked together with local enterprises and powers to reinforce their standing. Due to that, our Veteran Faction has to be careful even when breathing these days.”

“A series of rise and fall, isn’t that what politics is all about?” the old man replied calmly. “The scales of power are ever changing even during the peaceful era before, let alone in our current environment. It’s normal for there to be ups and downs.”

“Ups and downs are built on intense competition among different parties. If we lose our drive, how can we thrive in this ever changing political climate?” Superintendent Li replied. “In this medicine business, what I’m looking at is not monetary profits but greater space and strength to stand our ground.”

“I see,” the old man replied with a nod. “Do what you need to do. When it’s needed, I’ll speak to those higher-ups. If you have spare time, do drop by Fengbei more often. I’m getting on in age… there will soon come a day where the weight of my words diminishes. If you want to accomplish something, you need to grow fast.”

“Thank you, teacher,” Superintendent Li replied in gratitude.

“About the medicine business, there are many parties that you need to satisfy,” the old man advised. “Ever since ancient times, anything involving money has never been easy to deal with. I’ll build the network of connections you require, but you have to decide for yourself who you want to associate yourself closely with, as well as who should get more, who should get less. You need to have an idea of what you want.”

“I understand.”

“Un, drink more tea.” The old man gestured with his hand.

Seven at night, the sun had already set.

While munching on a dry bun, Qin Yu looked at Qi Lin and asked with a frown, “Are you feeling better?”

“A little,” Qi Lin replied. He was still a little feverish. His lips were cracked, his face was utterly pale, and he was still coughing from time to time.

“Damn it, it looks like the new medicine isn’t working well either,” QIn Yu said he put down the bun. “This won’t do. I’ll get the boss and have him introduce us to a doctor. I’ll receive the doctor myself.”

“Don’t,” Qi Lin raised his hand feebly as he spoke. “It has been days since Li Tong was caught. We don’t know what the situation at Jiangzhou is. You’ll be in danger if you head over.”

“If I don’t go, it’ll only be a matter of time before you cough yourself to your death!” Qin Yu berated. “Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”

“You really don’t have to do that.” Qi Lin was afraid that something would happen to Qin Yu, so he insisted firmly on this. “Give it another three to four days. Once the goods arrive at Songjiang, you’ll be able to tell Coco our position. Get her to bring a doctor over when she takes Li Tong away with her.”

“We can’t wait anymore,” Qin Yu said as he picked up his coat. “Your fever isn’t subsiding at all. This can lead to a lot of complications if we drag this on. You need a doctor to look at you.”

“I’m telling you that there’s no need for that. Listen to me!”

The two of them began fighting over the issue of whether to get a doctor or not.

“Customer, you are…”

It was at this moment that the voice of the dormitory’s boss suddenly sounded by the entrance.

Hearing the commotion, Qin Yu was just about to walk out to take a look when, through the window, he saw eight people walking over.

“Who is it?” Qi Lin asked from the bed.

Qin Yu took out his gun and released the safety engagement notch with his thumb.

“Open up!” a woman’s voice sounded clearly from the doorway.

Hearing the familiar voice, Qin Yu was taken aback for a moment before he opened the door.

Standing right outside the door was Coco. She was wearing a black windbreaker and a pair of long boots that extended above her knees. With her long hair fluttering slightly with the wind, she looked exceptionally sensual.

“What are you doing here?” Qin Yu was surprised.

“I came here because I felt like it,” Coco replied whimsically as she walked into the room.

Looking at Coco’s silhouette, Qin Yu asked with a frown, “You knew that we are staying here?”

“I just received the news a while ago,” Coco replied as she assessed the room with her hands tucked behind her back.

Gedeng, Qin Yu’s heart skipped a beat. His heart began palpitating in fear.

If the one who found his location was not Coco but those from Jiangzhou’s Li Family, they would be…

It was at this point that Coco suddenly turned around and told Qin Yu with a smile, “There’s no need to worry. The Li Family won’t be able to find you. They don’t have as many eyes as we do here.”

Qin Yu looked at Coco in shock. It felt like this woman was able to see through the thoughts in his mind with ease.

Qi Lin looked at Coco from the bed and said anxiously, “About my brother…?!”

“Goddamnit! I came to Jiangzhou with great ambitions, but before I could start rocking, I ended up becoming the hostage of a young lass…” Old Cat walked in through the door as he cursed indignantly. Then, he looked at Qi Lin worriedly and asked, “Are your injuries still fine?”

Seeing that dimwit Old Cat was fine, Qin Yu and Qi Lin heaved a sigh of relief on the inside.

“I’m fine. I just hurt my shoulders a little.”

“Hell, I thought that your life is in danger!” Old Cat scoffed. He turned around and called out, “Doctor, come in and have a look at my brother!”

In the next moment, a middle-aged man holding a box walked into the room.

Meanwhile, Qin Yu turned to Coco and asked, “You’re here to take Li Tong away with you?”

“That’s right,” Coco replied with a nod.

Qin Yu was quiet for a moment before replying nonchalantly, “Doesn’t that go against what we have agreed on? Like I told you, I can only hand Li Tong over to you after the goods arrive.”

Coco smiled cheerily as she said, “The goods have already reached Songjiang.”

“Impossible. Didn’t the money only reach your hand today?” Qin Yu shook his head in disbelief.

Coco replied casually, “My men had already been sending the goods over to Songjiang before the money arrived.”

Qin Yu was taken aback. He couldn’t help but wonder just how meticulous and farsighted this young lady, who seemed to be of the same age as him, actually was.
