Special District 9

Chapter 73: I Don’t Want to Grow Up

“Brother Three, do you know why you are a mere lackey to Platoon Commander Yuan?” Qin Yu asked as he jabbed his finger at Ol’ Three’s chest. “That’s because your scope is only that big. You are too used to being a dog, so you are incapable of fathoming anything beyond that. Take a look at yourself, would I need to dirty my hands for someone like you? That friend of mine who killed Yuan Wei is still alive and kicking. Perhaps I should get him to pay your home a visit someday.”

Those words made Ol’ Three’s heart thump in horror. He knew that the person Qin Yu was referring to was no other than Qi Lin.

“Even Platoon Commander Yuan hasn’t said anything at all, so why the heck are you trying to kick up a fuss over here? It’s Superintendent Li’s order for us to be transferred over to Platoon 4. You think that you’re just messing with me by clogging me up here, but can’t you see that your actions are as good as superseding Superintendent Li’s authority?” Qin Yu berated derisively. “Brother Three, when can you grow up?”

“If Brother Three can grow up, he wouldn’t have sabotaged his own allies when he met Matsushita back then,” Guan Qi chirped in by the side. “It can’t be helped, he’s a hot-blooded youth after all.”

Those words made Ol’ Three’s temper shoot through the roof. “You fuckers, aren’t you being too arrogant here?”

Right after saying those words, Ol’ Three threw a punch right toward Guan Qi’s head.

“Hey hey, we’re talking over here, Brother Three. Why are you resorting to violence?” Qin Yu was waiting for Ol’ Three to lose his temper and make a move. He stepped forward and grabbed the latter’s elbow and right fist as he shouted, “Brother Three, it’s one thing for us to talk shit over here, but if you really hit someone here, you’ll really be in deep trouble…”

Ol’ Three has never looked upon Qin Yu or Guan Qi well. Seeing that they were mocking him, blood gushed into his head, and he struggled free from Qin Yu’s grasp and forcefully threw a punch over.

Gudong!

Guan Qi dodged the punch, but he feigned as if it had struck his face. He stumbled onto the floor as he roared indignantly, “You bastard, how dare you hit me?! I’m going to write a report to the Police Headquarters and sue you till you go to jail!”

“Do it then! Even if I have to face jail time, I’ll make sure to beat you to a pulp!” Ol’ Three was utterly infuriated. He raised his leg to kick Guan Qi yet again.

Qin Yu raised his left hand to grab Ol’ Three’s neck as he clenched his fists to give three good hits to his chest.

Ol’ Three was initially reluctant to fight with Qin Yu, but after suffering a beating, he had completely lost his cool. He began tussling with Qin Yu, shouting, “Beat him up!”

The other members of Squad 1 immediately rushed forward at Ol’ Three’s command to take down Qin Yu.

At this moment, the opponent had eight people and Qin Yu only had Guan Qi on his side. However, this was the situation they wanted to create in the first place. In fact, Guan Qi had even laid down on the floor, shouting, “Ol’ Three, if you don’t kill me today, I’ll make sure to sue you to your death!”

“Sue me then!” Ol’ Three bared his teeth as he raised the chair to smash down on Guan Qi.

It was at this moment that Yuan Ke happened to walk in. He glared at everyone in the room and hollered, “What are you all doing? Are you trying to rebel over here?”

That shout caused the room to go completely silent.

While gasping for air, Ol’ Three shouted to Yuan Ke, “Platoon Commander Yuan, please pretend as if you didn’t see this. I’d rather take off my uniform than to let these bastards live another day!”

Yuan Ke felt his head hurt after hearing those words. With a livid look on his face, he raged, “Shut up and put that chair down!”

Those words allowed Ol’ Three to regain his calm a little. After a long moment of hesitation, he finally tossed the chair over to the side.

Yuan Ke shot a sweeping glance at everyone in the room before he walked over to Qin Yu and said, “You sure have become a big figure now. You don’t feel any pressure picking a fight anywhere, huh?”

Qin Yu replied smilingly, “Platoon Commander Yuan, I am just a poor lad. I can’t afford to have a big ego. Today, Superintendent Li passed down an order for us to be transferred over to Platoon 4, so I had Guan Qi to take care of the handover procedures. However, Ol’ Three insisted that there’s a discrepancy in the ammunition due to the meat shop case… I came over here to reason with him, but he lost his temper and attacked us. Look, isn’t there a CCTV there? If you don’t believe me, let’s take a look at the recording then.”

Yuan Ke’s face darkened further upon hearing those words.

“Guan Qi, have the brothers in the security room take out the footage for Platoon Commander Yuan to see!” Qin Yu said.

“Forget it!” Yuan Ke waved his hand impatiently. He turned to Ol’ Three and said, “Hurry up and settle the handover procedures.”

“The grenade they used in that case really doesn’t tally with what is…” Ol’ Three tried to argue.

“Just do whatever I tell you to do! If it doesn’t tally, find a way to settle it!” Yuan Ke glared at Ol’ Three and berated.

Ol’ Three gritted his teeth before falling silent.

After that, Yuan Ke turned to Qin Yu and said, “Squad Leader Qin, is there anything else you need?”

“No, it’s all settled now thanks to your help,” Qin Yu replied with a smile.

“If there’s anything else you need, you just have to give me a heads up,” Yuan Ke said. “You’re the one who Superintendent Li favors right now. No one in the Police Bureau can afford to offend you.”

“Platoon Commander Yuan, you are joking with me again,” Qin Yu replied. He pulled Guan Qi up from the ground before saying, “Alright, I won’t impose on you anymore, Platoon Commander Yuan. We’ll be leaving.”

Yuan Ke looked at Qin Yu with a smile still hanging on his face as he said, “Squad Leader Qin, I wish you a smooth journey ahead in the Police Bureau.”

“Thanks a lot, Platoon Commander Yuan,” Qin Yu replied without even turning back.

After Qin Yu left, Yuan Ke turned over to look at Ol’ Three with an incredibly awful look on his face as he asked, “Are you sure you still want your vice platoon commander position?”

“I didn’t want to lose my temper either! It was Guan Qi who spoke to me with that sarcastic voice!” Ol’ Three argued vehemently.

“What did he say?”

“He… He said that I haven’t grown up yet…” Ol’ Three replied in agitation.

Yuan Ke was silent for three whole seconds before he sat down and said, “Is there anything wrong about what he said?”

Ol’ Three felt extremely embarrassed to hear those words. He swept a look at the others in the room with a reddened face. There was a rage boiling in his chest that made him tempted to refute Yuan Ke’s words.

Yuan Ke stared at Ol’ Three intently before he continued with a harsh tone, “Superintendent Li has already made it clear that he’s going to pave the way for Qin Yu. What is the point of picking at such trivial issues? Are you able to bring Qin Yu down, or will you be able to anger Superintendent Li to his death? You are a vice platoon commander, but all you can do is to nitpick as such minor issues. This is the office, not Dirt Street! We fight here by destroying others with smiles on our faces, not through blind violence!”

Ol’ Three was berated to the point where he was unable to say a word at all.

“If you don’t have the confidence to destroy him in a single move, just don’t move at all. If you simply nitpick over all sorts of small things, you will look no more than a fool,” Yuan Ke berated Ol’ Three with a frown. “Superintendent Li has already made a stand, and he’s not on our side. We can’t do as we please in the Police Bureau anymore. If others were to get a handle on you, no one will be able to save you.”

Despite being berated by the younger Yuan Ke, Ol’ Three didn’t rebut the latter at all. He simply nodded his head and said, “I understand.”

Yuan Ke knew that even though Ol’ Three’s capability was limited, he was still deeply loyal to him and the Yuan Family. Thus, after taking a deep breath and calming down, he also gave Ol’ Three some face by wrapping up, “Come with me to my older brother’s place tonight. There have been rumors that Old Ma’s people are releasing their goods again. This might have something to do with Qin Yu’s disappearance a while ago.”

“Got it,” Ol’ Three nodded.
