492 A victory by team play

Vincent chose a direction and said, “Nick, let’s go.”

Nick looked at the girls one last time before taking out his sword and shield. He was prepared to give his all to help his team win.

Vincent summoned a bandage and rolled it around his fists. He grabbed small rocks, placed them on his knuckles, and tightened them with another bandage application.

The gloves of pain were ready to be used.

Kazumi scouted the area. It took about two minutes to find their opponents waiting in an open field.

This was a trap as they obviously wanted a place with a good field of view and enough distance to cast their spells.

[Are you planning on fighting without using Overheat?] Kazumi curiously asked.

-Yeah. I want to beat them with my fists.-

[Hehe. I guess you are really going to punch their teeth in.]

.....

Vincent smirked and casually walked into the open field. Nick became nervous because there was nowhere to hide. Projectiles had no hindrance hitting them.

Vincent and Nick stopped walking when a smirk appeared on their opponent’s faces. They had just stepped in the range of the spells, which was over fifteen meters away.

The one who knocked Nick to the floor shouted, “Is this how you plan to win? I thought you were going to use the women as a shield since we don’t hit women.”

[This one is more clever and despicable than thought. The first one who mentions an accusation is the one who has thought of it many times.]

[That bastard thought you were going to use Lilith as a meatshield because of the deal. I have a hunch he would surely use such a despicable act in order to win.]

“Yeah, and I am going to make you regret thinking I would use my wife in that manner to win. ” Vincent responded with a glare.

Vincent thought something was amiss. His opponents not only acted as if they were sure to win but as if they could go all out without killing anyone.

‘Don’t tell me they drank a lot of potions? I hope it wasn’t a strange potion like the one Kilo drank. I might need to use Overheat if that’s the case.’ Vincent believed.

To Vincent’s surprise, everyone on arena island was being protected. The only question remaining was, by how much?

Vincent quickly looked at his and Nick’s status window, and both of them had the same buffs.

The discovery made Vincent certain his opponents knew about this system. How a person wouldn’t die even if they used someone as a meatshield. The poor meatshield would only receive a certain amount of bodily harm and emotional damage from betrayal.

[Humph! These five pompous boys didn’t drink a single potion. I guess they are overestimating themselves.]

-Should I knock some senses in them?-

[Most certainly, hehe.]

“Nick. A large glyph array protects us, and we will get hurt less.”

“Really? But what are we going to do now? We are out in the open, and we have no ranged attackers with us.”

“No, don’t worry, Nick. All you need to do is run. Run and do not stop.”

“Huh? But we will not be able to arrive before they cast their spells.”

Vincent placed his hand on Nick’s shoulder. “Do you trust me?” He asked with a confident gaze.

*Gulp* “O... Okay.” Nick answered with hesitation. He trusted Vincent, yet the fear of the unknown overwhelmed him.

“Haha. Are you afraid?”

“O-only nervous.”

*Sigh* “I guess I have to tell Lupa you love to spar with her.” Vincent slyly said.

“...” Nick froze, and a chill rushed down his spine.

???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ????????????????????-????????????.????????????

No opponent was as wild and dangerous as Lupa to Nick’s eyes. She was like a wild beast with intelligence and a keen gaze. No mistake slipped past her eyes, and if it was a considerable mistake, you can bet she would try to take full advantage of it.

Nick conceded to Vincent’s plan after he felt Vincent was threatening him with Lupa’s love to fight. *Gulp* “I...” *Gulp* “I understand. I will run no matter what happens.”

[Hey Vincent. You better start running because they started chanting.]

“Let’s go. ” Vincent ran first while Nick followed behind. He couldn’t catch up to Vincent as he was almost three times stronger than Nick.

The students spectating the match stopped commenting and focused on what was about to happen.

Two sprinted, one with a sword and a shield while the other with rocks wrapped around his knuckles. Five were casting spells as quickly as they could. The first side to strike kept anyone watching the live broadcast on edge.

The royal soldier was also focusing on the match. He wondered what gave Vincent the confidence to fight against mages with his fists. Not to mention against a group mage keeping their distance.

[They are about to finish casting any second now.] Kazumi warned.

Vincent clenched his fists with all his strength. He slammed down his foot, and while the momentum was still pushing him forward, he swung his arm and spun once.

At about mid-spin, Vincent shouted, “Wild Blow!” while releasing his clenched fists. As his hands opened and the bandages loosened, Vincent mustered his strength and swung his arms one after the other.

The small rocks collected around his knuckles became loose, and the speed of his swinging arms caused the rock to shoot from his hands. Even if the accuracy wasn’t that great, each small rock was shot with the same or more power than the behind shot by a slingshot.

The five mages were all hit by one or two small stones. They didn’t receive much damage, but the unexpected attack caused them to misspeak, and their spell structure became unstable.

One student kept casting, and the fire spell backfired. He caught on fire and was teleported out of arena island. The other four immediately stopped, fearing suffering a shameful defeat.

Their two choices weren’t too great. One choice was to leave it to luck. The other choice was to fight without using spells.

A team consisting of mages was at a great disadvantage now.

Unlike Maria, the five students could only reduce two words from their long spell cast. Furthermore, unlike Maria, they had to remain stationary and place all their concentration on their spells.

Their loss was set in stone with the choice to fight Vincent and Nick in close combat quarters.

Nick couldn’t believe the miracle Vincent created without using his ability.

Furthermore, hearing Vincent lie while shouting “Wild Blow” as if he had a warrior class made him grin. His friend was strong enough to change a loss into a win without using his class’s power.

Shortly, Nick arrived at his first opponent. He charged at him with his shield and knocked him to the ground.

Nick continued by swinging his sword at the chest of the nearby opponent. As the blade touched the skin and drew a tiny bead of blood, the condition of endangerment was triggered.

The student was teleported away before the protection buff had to activate and protect him from a laceration.

Nick saw the remaining two opponents swinging their staffs at him. He tried to take a step back, but “Huh?” his foot couldn’t move. The student on the ground grabbed his foot, removing any chances of escape.

.....

“Die!” Both students shouted.

The three opponents and Nick were suddenly covered by shade. “Did you forget about me?” Vincent asked in mid-air.

Vincent extended his arms and grabbed the heads of two standing opponents. Using his momentum and strength, Vincent fell down while slamming their faces down to the ground with a loud thud.

Not only was the impact loud, but their emergency escape buff triggered, and they were teleported away.

Vincent stood up and cracked his knuckles. He glared at the opponent holding Nick’s leg and said, “I guess you are the only one left. Wait there for a moment. It only takes a second to punch your teeth in.”

The last opponent shook his head in fear and shouted, “I surrender.”

The match was over, and they were given time to retrieve any items left on the ground.

Their remaining opponent stood up with a pair of trembling legs. He cautiously glanced at Vincent and Nick before grabbing the staves of his teammates. “I am ready.” He said before his body became engulfed in light and teleported out of arena island.

Vincent and Nick raced to the girls.

Lilith hugged Vincent while Clair smiled at Nick. She couldn’t show their relationship at the moment. Jun Ye Rim looked at the four as if she was bored.
