640 The discovery of an incurable condition

Leonis scratched his head. “Does that mean Vincent... No. The Lionheart family has a good chance to win the judgment by combat?” He questioned.

“Lord Vincent can’t lose to C Ranked people or below. That is what I heard. Additionally, I heard Lady Ester and Lady Lupa aren’t weak either.” Aceon informed Leonis. This was the information he received from his daughter, Tiffi Ponalis.

“Two more participants remain. I wonder if they will also be women, haha.” Lucas guessed.

Leonis rubbed his chin as if he was stuck in deep thought. Whatever happened, Leonis wanted his daughter to remain happy.

Leonis pondered if the Lionheart side could win, and his daughter remained content with her current life. However, that would mean making Leonis unhappy in the process.

Lilith had already vaguely explained what had happened while aligning the story Lucas told. It became more plausible for Vincent to marry two more women. More specifically, the vampire Leonis called bimbo and the elf sleeping on the bed.

While Leonis was thinking such thoughts, he glanced at his daughter. Upon catching a glimpse of Lilith frowning at him, Leonis stopped acting cautious about how the future could unfold. For now.

*Cough* “I will fully support my little angel no matter if the odds are stacked against us. For now.” *cough* “...My son-in-law is a part of the family, after all.”

After Leonis told Lilith an excuse, he abruptly went to hug Lilith. “I am happy to see my little angel feeling better now. Please stop scaring us with your worrying and rest.”

.....

“I will, father...” Lilith paused while thinking, ‘When we are allowed to stop worrying and live peacefully, that is.’

“Why did you stop, my little angel? Is there a problem?”

“No, father. Other than the judgment by combat and participating in the alliance grand tour...”

“Participate in the alliance grant tournament? How come I didn’t know about that?!”

Leonis heard Lucas clear his throat. He moved his gaze and saw the healing light encasing Ester and Lupa’s bodies fade. The healing was done.

Lucas looked at Leonis and explained, “The headmaster has evaluated Vincent to be this year’s trump card. Additionally, my son, Biro, told me many great things about Vincent. Her highness also became interested.”

“Hahaha.” After a long laugh, Lucas continued, “The both of us have already signed the documents necessary to allow your daughter’s team to participate in the first-year division. There is nothing to be done now.”

Lucas looked at Vincent and continued, “That is why I tested Vincent, Ester, Lupa, and anyone who wanted to be rated by yours truly. However, I do hope the truthful lion will not reveal the secret.”

“A few others wanted to join.” Lucas showed a serious expression while warning, “Now they are in a bed. Does the Baron want to get rated by me? Speak, and I can accommodate.”

Leonis flinched from the idea of being beaten to the point of requiring healing and later sleeping on the bed like a baby.

For a handful of seconds, the bedroom was quiet. Lucas took Leonis’s silence as agreement to keep his mouth shut.

Lucas went to heal Vincent. As the light encased Vincent’s body, a frown appeared on Lucas’s face. After healing Vincent for a couple of seconds, Lucas realized how his mana was being consumed more than the usual amount to heal Vincent’s paralyzed body.

‘Is it me, or do I feel as if my mana is being absorbed while healing? Minor Heal doesn’t usually take this much mana unless I am making a beginner mistake of using more mana than necessary.’
Lucas thought before he swiftly moved his hawk-like eyes all over Vincent’s body to detect the smallest scratch.

‘Didn’t they say his body constantly recovered? His skin looks smoother than a fine delicate woman’s skin. There are no visible injuries as well.’ Lucas stopped inspecting Vincent from head to toe and concluded, ‘Does that mean Vincent has internal injuries his extraordinary otherworldy recovery can not recover?’

Lucas stopped healing Vincent from the side effect of overburdening his body with the use of Overload.

“Can I check Vincent’s stats?” Lucas asked while looking at Lilith and Sakura.

“Is Vincent still injured?” Questioned Lilith.

“On the surface, not that I can detect.” Lucas sighed. It was a rare sight for a man that constantly laughed. “I have a feeling there is something wrong with Vincent on the inside.”

Lilith and Sakura frowned. They didn’t get to talk to Kazumi and believed she was resting to recover her mana.

‘If Duke Lucas, who is a Divine Paladin, doesn’t know what is wrong with Vincent, I fear...’ Lilith worriedly thought.

‘What can we do to help?’ Sakura pondered before remembering Kazumi was resting inside Jun Ye Rim’s Soul Domain.

“Jun Ye Rim. Do you have anything that can help?” Asked Sakura, hoping to obtain a helpful response.

[Is the soul the problem Lucas is referring to? Has the division of the soul produced a worse consequence?]

-I don’t know how to answer. I have not read about a soul splitting in two in the books teacher Ming Xiao Fan had-

-All I read was how a foreign soul constantly attempted to absorb the body’s original soul. That is how people become possessed.-

[I will need to protect Vincent from being possessed by his other half, then.]

-I can purify it if you want.-

[It is far stronger than you can imagine, Jun Ye Rim. Furthermore, it is currently sealed under the emerald throne. It is like a ticking time bomb. We do not know when Egos will reemerge.]

-Egos?-

[That is what Vincent named the mutated ego from his past self. The part of the ego where Vincent was depressed, negative, and constantly guilty.]

-Guilty? Was Vincent a criminal?-

[No. It was far from it, in fact. Vincent stayed away from others because of the guilt he felt. He also saw strange dreams that made him more confused than better.]

-Don’t speak in riddles.-

[Sigh. When Vincent was young, he asked his parents to be rewarded by going to a fun place. However, a strange green cloud appeared in that place. Almost everyone who breathed the dust had their bodies show large signs of mutation before they died.]

-So Vincent believed he killed his parents because of his wish?-

[Yes.]

Jun Ye Rim felt as if Vincent was closer to her than she thought. Both lost their parents while believing it was their fault. Vincent’s parents died, while Jun Ye Rim’s parents acted as if their daughter had died.

After learning how they both experienced guilt and believing what happened to be their fault, Jun Ye Rim considered it was time to become less cautious around Vincent.

???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ????????????????????-????????????.????????????

“Ahem. Why are you all looking at me as if I have an answer? Don’t you know an inspection gemstone can show what condition Vincent is suffering from? ” Jun Ye Rim bluntly said.

“Haha. Now I have the approval of one of Vincent’s women to check his stats.” Lucas joked while taking out a high-grade inspection gemstone.

“Humph!” Jun Ye Rim crossed her arms, yet she didn’t deny the statement. Her cheeks faintly blushed after her eyes landed on Vincent’s sleeping face.

Lucas held the high-grade inspection gemstone in front of Vincent. Soon, a hologram with Vincent’s stats appeared. All the eyes looking at the information became shocked to see the conditions Vincent was suffering from.

“The soul is injured?” Lilith said before she fainted. Leonis quickly caught his daughter from falling.

“I... I didn’t think Vincent had suffered that much... I hope he can recover...” Sakura said with a sorrowful tone and tears welling in her eyes.

[Vincent’s soul split in two, and based on the lost stats, it appears Vincent didn’t have a lot of time remaining before Egos consumed all of Vincent’s soul.]

Kazumi stopped talking and thought about how the lost stats were going to make the judgment by combat more difficult now.

[Now I only hope Vincent can wake up. We also definitely need Mimi to compensate for Vincent’s current condition.]

Jun Ye Rim recalled how Vincent was devastated at the thought of losing Kazumi’s soul. Now it was the other way around. Vincent’s soul was the target of ceasing to exist instead of Kazumi’s soul.

‘I do not want to think of Vincent becoming possessed when I am around. I will not let the evil soul of his past take over his body. I will protect what remains of his original soul.’ Jun Ye Rim thought.

After what happened and how Vincent is suffering from an injury only she could stop from becoming worse, Jun Ye Rim decided to stick with Vincent and save him.

A moment later, Jun Ye Rim’s heart fluttered at the thought of staying beside Vincent to keep an eye on him. It meant she would be seen as his woman. This thought made her cheeks red as well.

Jun Ye Rim lowered her gaze. She looked at her injured arm. She considered against asking Lucas to check if her arm could be healed.

‘I will not heal my arm before Vincent recovers. That is my atonement for what I had done to Kazumi. That will also be proof of how I protected a person from being consumed by an evil soul.’
