Supreme System Devourer
Chapter 10 - Luring the Prey
Fang entered his house, unafraid of the chaotic scene behind him. He was, in fact, excited to the extreme! Such an opportunity he had found...for cultivators to deliver themselves to his front door was simply too good to be true!
As soon as he closed the door, he heard a series of sharp knocks. Smiling to himself, he opened the door.
"Yes...?" he spoke.
Tang Junxin stared at the innkeeper before scowling. Shaking his head, he barged into the inn.
"Innkeeper, arrange your best room for me!" he spoke, waving his hand dismissively.
Smiling politely, Fang nodded.
"Of course, patron!" he spoke.
Rushing to his cupboard, he gave Tang the keys to the best room.
"1,000 silvers," he said, laughing to himself within the dark void of his own head.
Tang Junxin stared at the innkeeper. Frowning, he began searching his pockets. He had not expected the rooms to be so expensive!
"It appears... I do not have the money on me right now!" he spoke through gritted teeth.
Fang's face fell.
"If you don't have the money to pay, please leave patron. We cannot afford any free-loaders," he replied.
Tang Junxin's face contorted in an ugly expression.
"Wait! I can pay... do you accept rare treasures?" he asked through a twisted facial expression.
'Hmm...this guy seems unwilling to harm me...with his level of power, I'm quite sure he believes he could kill me instantly, so why is he offering to pay?' Fang thought to himself.
Glancing at Tang Junxin, he sighed in pity. Nodding his head, he gave him the keys.
"Young man, I saw that fight you had with the other man," Fang began.
Frowning, Tang Junxin gathered ice energy within his palm. Ready to strike the innkeeper down, he adjusted his Qi circulation. Although it was regrettable, he needed to kill the innkeeper if he said too much.
"You must be tired. So, I've decided you can pay me later on when you have money. I'd rather not cheat you out of your magic artifacts and weapons," Fang finished.
Shocked, Tang Junxin stared at the innkeeper. A flash of dying light from the setting sun hit him and a brief halo appeared over the innkeeper's head.
Smiling to himself, Tang Junxin swore to pay back the innkeeper for his kindness.
'Yes....perfect...now he's indebted to me... and this means that I will benefit immensely! After all, everyone know's that you should treat protagonists well...if you do, they will give you a lot in return because they're all so devoted to their relationships with others...' Fang thought sinisterly.
Now it is not to be said that he was evil. Fang was simply an average, run-of-the-mill man. He did not wish harm on anyone unnecessarily, nor did he wish to completely bury his conscience when faced with ethical issues. He truly felt that he should help out the poor cultivator... if he gained a system by doing it, then so be it!
Prey was prey regardless. However one can catch more bees using honey compared to vinegar, meaning that treating Tang Junxin nicely now would definitely pay off it the future. Especially with that savory system he had...Fang's mouth watered from smelling the delicious aromas.
'Patience' he counseled himself.
Smiling, he led Tang Junxin to his room before retiring to his own abode. Thus marked the end to a long day.
