47 The First Encounter with Han Xi (1 / 2)

It seemed like a simple matter, just about whether Ark really liked Han Xi or not. Both sides were originally in a friendly debate, but then suddenly, a gift-giving frenzy began.

Neither side would back down, one after another, they sent gifts, until the live stream became a dizzying whirl of activity.

From noble mtl dot come

Special effects flew everywhere, Ark’s face completely obscured by the pile of gifts.

With the other viewers in the live stream egging them on with their comments, the screen was a flurry of activity.

In just three minutes, Ark was propelled to the top of the trending list once again.

The live stream was flooded with countless new viewers.

The newcomers, not knowing what was happening, could only keep exclaiming “Wow,” while the regulars egged them on wave after wave.

“What’s going on? It feels like the top two are going to empty their coffers with all these gifts!”

“I think so too, there goes the grandparents’ retirement fund.”

“Woohoo, is this the world of the rich? It’s so wonderful!”

Ark had been live streaming for four or five years and had never seen such a spectacle.

Before, it was either a single big patron splurging alone or some power-leveling bosses spending, but two patrons battling it out in the live stream?

As the total value of the gifts they sent approached half a million, Ark could hardly keep the smile off his face.

If there were emojis, Ark would definitely send one: Please, no more fighting.

“Ahem, that, stop for a moment.”

Finally, Ark spoke up.

After all, being too obvious wouldn’t do, it could attract criticism.

He had intended to explain the day’s events, but the two paid him no mind, continuing their relentless gifting, occasionally blurting out a line.

“So you don’t like Han Xi, right?”

“You do like Han Xi, don’t you?”

Fang Zhou blinked, suddenly realizing that at this moment, whether he admitted or denied, he would offend one side.

So he wisely shut his mouth, silently launched a game, and stopped watching the live broadcast.

Let them swipe if they love to; after all, he was the one benefiting.

“A fool would turn down money.”

By the time Fang Zhou finished a game, it was past midnight, and it was time to end the broadcast.

Glancing at the live broadcast room, he noticed that the top two contributors had left at some point, but the audience was still enthusiastic, discussing the fiery clash that had just occurred.

“Hey, who do you think the top two are, being so rich?”

“It feels like one is a CP fan of Han Xi and Fang Zhou, and the other is Fang Zhou’s toxic solo fan, full of gunpowder.”

“Man, I really saw something today. A full screen of special effects lasted for nearly half an hour, you know?”

Fang Zhou felt relieved inside; it was good that they left, otherwise, he would have been forced to answer and then had to appease the other, too much trouble.

This also indirectly proved one thing: relying on patrons to maintain popularity doesn’t work. Only by relying on his accumulated game fans and true love fans was a long-term plan.

Fang Zhou began to ponder in his heart how to turn the tables with the popularity wave from the romance variety show.

Despite the fact that the four ex-girlfriends he encountered here did bring some trouble.

However, this was both an opportunity and a challenge. If he could grasp it, he might be able to make a comeback in the live broadcast world.

Fang Zhou lay in bed, beginning to think about his future.

As he thought, the image of him holding Han Xi today suddenly flashed in his mind again.

47 Han Xi’s First Encounter (2 / 2)

She, usually as aloof as a flower on a high peak, nestled in his arms, without her usual coldness, without that dominance and bossiness, just like every girl in love, depending on her boyfriend.

He couldn’t help but recall his first encounter with Han Xi.

Back then, he had just graduated from college, handing out resumes everywhere, looking for internships. Jobs in the arts were truly hard to find, and he was at his wits’ end.

He almost believed he was born with a bovine-equine holy body, only fit to be a beast of burden to have a glimmer of hope. (Although it’s not much different now)

Finally, he found a company that was decent enough and hurried to the interview.

The interview process went smoothly, but when he took the elevator down after the interview, he got trapped inside.

And in the elevator, there were only him and Han Xi. At first, neither spoke.

With no cell signal, Fang Zhou promptly pressed the emergency call button in the elevator, waiting for rescue, and even comforted Han Xi with a word.

“It should be fine soon.”

However, this well-intentioned reminder received no response.

In the pitch-black elevator during the power outage, only by the light of his phone did Fang Zhou realize that something was wrong with Han Xi.

She was curled up in a corner, hands covering her head, trembling all over. The bag she had been holding had fallen to the side, oblivious to everything.

“Hey? What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

Fangzhou was startled by her state, initially mistaking her for a seizure patient, and quickly went to check on her.

The woman was trembling all over, clutching her head so hard that, with the light from the phone, Fangzhou could see the veins on her hands.

Fearing something might happen to her, Fangzhou said, “Excuse me,” and then took her hands away to examine her.

The woman lifted her head, revealing a pair of clear eyes filled with fear and panic, but mostly cluelessness.

“Don’t, don’t touch me!”

Her breathing was rapid, with a hint of chest tightness and shortness of breath. Her forehead was covered in sweat, and her body shook uncontrollably, invoking a protective instinct in anyone who saw her.

Fangzhou finally understood what was wrong with her, claustrophobia.

It’s an anxiety disorder related to enclosed spaces, a panic that arises from the fear of unknown dangers that might occur in such places.

Without hesitation, Fangzhou turned his phone upside down on the floor, letting the light refract onto the ceiling, illuminating the inside of the elevator.

Then he gently patted Han Xi’s back with one hand, while placing the other near her hand, letting her grip it tightly, providing a sense of security.

“It’s okay, don’t be afraid, I’m here with you.”

“Look, it’s not dark at all here, no need to be scared.”

Although what Fangzhou did didn’t completely eliminate Han Xi’s fear, gradually, her breathing became less rapid, temporarily free from that near-death sensation.

Her body was still shaking, but the hands holding Fangzhou’s were no longer clenched too tightly.

Han Xi’s eyes slowly regained focus, no longer staring blankly at one spot.

The two remained huddled together until the elevator was powered again, and the doors opened.

As they left, Han Xi finally spoke her first words to Fangzhou since they met.

“What’s your name?”

After Fangzhou told her, the woman nodded gently and left his field of vision.

He hadn’t taken the incident to heart, considering it just a good deed.

Until a week later, when Fangzhou passed his interview and went to work at the company, he saw the woman sitting at the front during the meeting, her nameplate reading “CEO – Han Xi.”
