#5 - 5. Maze exploration
The corridor wasn't long, only about ten meters, but the corners still led to similar corridors. However, the two corners on either side of the corridor faced different directions, one turning to the left and the other to the right.
Lin Ye quickly walked past several corners, finding that the front was still composed of similar corridors of varying lengths, some of which ended in forks leading in different directions.
This was a maze with no visible end.
If this maze could accommodate 10 billion people simultaneously, Lin Ye couldn't imagine how complex it would be.
But this didn't matter much to Lin Ye. He didn't need to escape the maze; he only needed to find some supplies he needed here.
Half an hour later, Lin Ye had explored nine red rooms, finding only a few red coins, a red key, and some usable junk. He hadn't found the treasure chest mentioned in the system information at all.
After exploring a few more rooms, Lin Ye suddenly discovered a locked room.
The door was the same as the other doors, except it had a red lock.
The lock was similar in color to the door. If Lin Ye hadn't checked each room individually, he might have missed it.
Lin Ye knocked on the door, but there was still no response from inside. This place was like a silent ruin, and nothing made a sound except for Lin Ye.
Using the red key to open the door, the key disappeared after opening. The inside was the same size as the other rooms, but there was no garbage on the floor. Instead, it was filled with shelves.
This seemed to be a warehouse.
Lin Ye entered the room and checked the shelves. Most of the shelves were empty, but he still found a few remaining items.
Two bottles of red liquid, a metal pendant, and seven hard cards.
The liquid was in glass bottles, sealed with caps, with a capacity of about 400 milliliters.
The pendant was a cross with equal length and width, silver in color, and could be worn around the neck.
One side of the hard cards was dark red, and the other side was painted with intricate patterns, similar to the patterns on the red coins. There were three different patterns on the seven cards.
Lin Ye put these things into the backpack he had found in the garbage pile earlier. Although he didn't know what these things were for, he decided to take them first.
Just as Lin Ye put on his backpack and was about to go out, he suddenly heard footsteps.
The footsteps came from the end of the corridor, not from the direction he came from.
The sound was very soft. Fortunately, it was quiet enough here that he could detect the other party in advance.
Lin Ye gently closed the door, leaving only a crack to observe the corridor outside.
Soon, the footsteps approached the room, and a figure passed by the door.
It was a blood-red, shriveled corpse. Half of its head had disappeared, and the remaining part of the brain had dried up. It was hard to say what was supporting its movement.
After the corpse passed the door, Lin Ye calculated the distance, opened the door, and fired a shot at the remaining half of the blood corpse's head.
Bang!
The gunshot echoed in the corridor, and the bullet accurately hit the blood corpse's head. The impact knocked the blood corpse to the ground.
This was Lin Ye's first time firing a gun, but he found that he was very familiar with the feeling of shooting, as if he had been shooting often before.
Suppressing this feeling, Lin Ye didn't step forward but cautiously stared at the corpse on the ground. The other party had lost half of its head, and he wasn't sure if the other half was a vital point.
At first, the corpse didn't react, but two seconds later, the corpse suddenly began to twitch violently, like a patient having an epileptic seizure.
Soon, blood-colored fleshy limbs grew out of the blood corpse's back. These fleshy limbs supported its body like spider legs, its abdomen split open, and the shriveled flesh and internal organs burst out with new vitality, growing out of the abdomen like a flower, turning into a new structure.
Lin Ye fired three consecutive shots at the corpse, hitting different parts of the chest, lower left abdomen, and lower right abdomen with each shot.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
He didn't think this monster had no weaknesses; it was just that he hadn't found them yet.
The monster leaped up from the ground like a frog and used the top of the corridor to propel itself toward Lin Ye, covering a distance of seven or eight meters in just two bursts of force.
Lin Ye calmly took a big step back, then emptied the magazine at the monster lunging in front of him.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
At this distance, what was needed was not accuracy but firepower!
After shooting the magazine empty, Lin Ye released the pistol, sidestepped to dodge the monster's second pounce by predicting its trajectory, and drew the dagger stuck in his waist.
The monster's second pounce didn't stop in time and crashed into the end of the corridor, then struggled for a while before completely losing its movement.
It seemed that it wasn't immune to bullets either.
Lin Ye calmly stood in place, preventing the monster from faking its death. He didn't make any extra movements throughout the entire process, nor did he have much psychological fluctuation.
After all, compared to the simulator missions, a jumping corpse was still relatively easy to deal with.
After a few minutes, Lin Ye approached the monster's corpse.
At this time, the corpse had completely lost its human form. Apart from some scattered parts, it was difficult to see any traces of humanity.
Lin Ye drew his dagger and began to dissect the corpse.
The various tissue structures of the corpse were mixed together. At first, Lin Ye was still thinking about how this thing moved, but later he slowly gave up thinking and began to study the various strange tissue structures on the monster.
Ten minutes later, Lin Ye put away his dagger with satisfaction and continued to explore forward.
On the monster, Lin Ye found a keychain with five identical red keys. This type of key seemed to be just a basis for opening doors and had little to do with the lock itself.
After that, Lin Ye no longer opened those rooms without locks. After all, most of them only contained some garbage, and even if something good came out, it would only be one or two coins or a key.
Moreover, only one key came out of nine rooms.
He needed to find a treasure chest as soon as possible to see what materials were needed to upgrade the shelter.
Lin Ye quickly walked through the corridors, twirling the empty pistol in his hand. When he fired the gun just now, he felt very familiar with the pistol, as if he had used it for more than ten years.
This was likely the experience left over from simulating Kenneth. After all, Lin Ye had never touched a pistol before, so it was impossible for him to have such skilled marksmanship.
But Kenneth, as a D-level personnel, was different. There must be a reason for becoming a D-level personnel. It wouldn't be justified without a few unique skills.
Soon, Lin Ye found a locked red door. After knocking, there was no response inside. After consuming a key, Lin Ye entered the room.
The internal structure of the room was the same as the other rooms, except there was no garbage, and there was a redwood box in the center of the room.
The box was not locked. Lin Ye cautiously used his dagger to pry open the lid, then quickly retreated.
Contrary to what he thought, there were no dangerous items in the box, nor did a blood corpse jump out.
