Fake 89: New Equipment

Wearing the equipment that was just bought yesterday, I headed to the scene on my racing bicycle. I wanted to try them out in today’s battle since I spent a significant amount of money purchasing them.
What I’d equipped on my whole body cost nearly 1,000,000 yen. So, it could no longer be said to be a beginner level set-up.
Nevertheless, when I tried to wear the inner armor, it was more difficult than I thought and took me a while to finish equipping it.
Since I bought the cheapest one, it should have been the simplest one. Even so, it took more time than I thought it would to put it on by myself.
Aoi was also carrying the stun baton I gave her yesterday.

“Rin-kun, we are about to arrive.”

“Alright, I understand.”

Leaving our racing bicycles beside the road, Aoi and I advanced together while I had my crossbow in hand.

“There they are. There are goblins, orcs, and also ogres.”

“Let’s leave ogres for the last and deal with goblins and orcs first.”

(T/N: I used plural nouns since the author didn’t describe any specific number of monsters in this conversation. It may be one or more.)

My eyesight is about 1 or 2 for both eyes, and yet Aoi always finds the monsters first. Perhaps, Aoi can see better.
Since there seems to be only one goblin this time, this is a good chance.
I readied my crossbow and set my aim. Then, I positioned myself so that I would be in the cover of a utility pole from the enemy’s point of view and continued to advance.
I was not confident enough to hit the fast-moving enemy yet, so I fired the first bolt before I was noticed by the enemy. But, it seemed that it was too far away; the bolt fell to the ground without hitting the enemy.

Clang.

The first shot missing was within my expectations, so I pulled myself together and loaded the next bolt. But, the goblin noticed my presence after the earlier attack and came rushing at me.

“Rin-kun!”

“It’s okay. Let me take care of it!”

Aoi tried to help me. But, the second bolt was already loaded, so I pulled the trigger by aiming at the incoming goblin.

“Gyaaaaaa!”

This time, it hit the chest of the goblin that was rushing toward me.
Because the goblin came to attack me in a straight line without thinking, it wasn’t that difficult to hit it. It was just that the goblin hadn’t disappeared yet.
I immediately pulled out the reinforced ceramic sword hung on my waist and dashed toward the goblin.
I will finish it before the other monsters come.
Although I had no knowledge regarding the swords, I’d been repeating simulations over simulations in my mind since I bought the sword yesterday.
Different from the knives I’d used until now, it had a longer length, so it appeared to be more suited for slashing rather than stabbing.
Of course, I couldn’t expect that I would be able to cut flesh and bones simultaneously and split the enemy in two evenly with a single downward stroke like sword masters and anime protagonists.
That being the case, I had no choice but to cut the thin part with a horizontal full swing.
What I had in mind was to cut the legs first, but the goblin in front of me had already come to a stop after being impaled by a crossbow bolt in its chest.
In this situation, I can aim for the neck.

“Ooooohhhh~!”

Letting out a war cry to raise my courage, I swung my sword like a baseball bat using all my strength.
At the moment of contact, some resistance was added to my hands. It felt like something hard, and I seemed to have hit the bones, but I ignored it regardless.

“Aaahhhhh!”

Simultaneously with my shout, the reinforced ceramic sword broke through the hard resistance and completed a full swing.
