Sweeter than Fiction

"What do you mean?" Su Bin's brows knitted. "Take a closer look at the picture."

Yu Mei looked at the photo once again. This time, for some unknown reasons, it seemed different when she looked at it again.

Her brows knotted. The two seemed so close, literally, and it seemed so intimate just like lovers. When did this happen?

"How did your cousin introduce her to your family?" she asked with her eyes still on the phone screen, looking at it seriously.

"Girlfriend. Why are you asking?"

"Because I know Yang, she never trusted anyone in her life except us and her family. I'm wondering how your cousin convinced her to be in a relationship with him when all these years she had been avoiding to be in it for some reason. At one glance I know he's not trustworthy. But…"

Yu Mei sighed and gave the phone back to Su Bin.

"Actually, me too," he muttered all of a sudden.

"What do you mean 'me too'?"

He thought about it but decided to tell her his suspicions. "Listen, I have something to tell you. Don't tell this to your friends promise me."

Narrowing her eyes, Yu Mei thought Su Bin was being suspicious. "What?"

"Promise me first."

"Okay, fine I promise. Just say it!"

Su Bin pursed his lips an inched his body closer to her.

"I bet this was Guan's idea." He took a breath before continuing, "I think they're just acting."

At first, Su Bin thought that when Guan asked him to find Liu Yang's whereabouts, he was just curious and wanted to play with her but now, it seems like it's not. It really seemed surreal to see them being sweet with each other.

She abruptly turned her head to him. "How do you say so?"

"Guan is in love with Min Chu all his life," he casually answered.

"Fuck, what?!"

"…and it's the first time he introduced someone to the family. He used to have one-night stands with girls before and that's it. I don't understand why all of a sudden…he…"

Su Bin leaned his body on the headboard and massaged his now throbbing temples; wondering what flipped the switch for Guan to be acting this way.

"That Min Chu is her sis-in-law, right? And she's pregnant right now."

He nodded with his eyes closed.

Yu Mei tapped her chin using her index finger and leaned on Su Bin, in deep thought. She's trying to make some hypothesis out of all the information they gathered.

"Ah!" she exclaimed as she sat up straight and kissed Su Bin's cheek. The latter smiled and hugged her lovingly.

"I think I know why your stupid cousin was behaving that way."

He peered down at her with affectionate eyes. While stroking her hair, he asked, "Why?"

"Maybe he's trying to move on with Min Chu and accepted his fate that they were really meant for each other."

Looking at his skeptical expression, she explained:


"It's like this; he was heartbroken for years that is why he decided to come home just now. Coming back, he thought that he would take a chance on his sis-in-law and capture her heart but then, she became pregnant. Therefore, he made a decision and found someone new and that is Yang. But the ultimate question is, why on earth did agree to be his girlfriend?"

Yu Mei peered at him with a questioning look. He buried his face at the crook of her neck and heaved a sigh.

"You're wrong," Su Bin uttered.

"Huh?"

"Guan came back not to take her heart but to see whether his heart could it if he saw Ge and Min Chu happy together…and he failed. He did tell me that he was moving on with his love for Min Chu but…what I'm afraid of is your friend. He's probably just using her as a tool. What if…what if things went out of hand? Min Chu is the only woman he cared about."

Tool…

What a shame.

"This won't do. I better ask Yang personally about this matter. I can't let her experience men's heartlessness once again."

"Again? What do you mean?"

Yu Mei was texting when she heard his question. She almost dropped her phone and bit her lip. She forced a smile at him and said, "Oh, nothing. Don't think about it."

Seeing him gave a nod and get out of bed, she heaved a big sigh of relief. Fuck! That was close!
