24. The Little Boy (5)

After flipping through this record, Sun Zheng was scared out in a cold sweat at the thought of the kid, but he didn’t find the information he wanted about the bloodstains on the floor and the bizarre door.

He looked at the notebook spreading out on the desk despondently, wondering what the recorder wanted to express with this story.

‘Am I really not as smart as Lu Xia?’

Sun Zheng was startled by this sudden thought.

At this moment, he suddenly heard a faint knock on the door. As he hadn’t recovered from the shock yet, he grew tenser and even thought that he had misheard.

The knock on the door rang again.

What was it? Was it human or… ghost?

Staring at the door, Sun Zheng couldn’t stabilize his wild state of mind. The closed-door, something unknown outside…

“Lu… Lu Xia?” He called out tentatively.

There seemed to be a faint moan. Sun Zheng moved closer to the door, hoping he could hear more clearly.

Yes, someone was groaning in a low voice while knocking on the door from time to time!

Sun Zheng clenched his fists nervously. ‘Is it Lu Xia outside? Did he get injured?’

‘No, it can’t be him. How did he know I was here?’

‘Who is it then? A ghost?’

He turned around and was about to go back to the chair, but he couldn’t turn a deaf ear to the groans and knocks on the door.

It seemed to be asking for help. Who was it? Or what was it?

He squatted down and shone the torch along the gap between the door and the floor, trying to see if he could see something outside through it.

However, he saw nothing.

‘Should I open the door?’ Sun Zheng couldn’t help but wrestle with himself. The 3rd floor of Aegiceras Hospital seemed to be very dangerous. From the moment they arrived at this floor, a series of horrible, eerie things had happened. He was not sure if he could take any more mental stimulation.

There shouldn’t be anyone else in the hospital in addition to the two of them. But what if… there really was someone else who was injured and in danger?

As if he had finally made up his mind, Sun Zheng rose to his feet and walked to the door, full of fear.

He decided to open the door slightly first.

He then slowly turned the doorknob.

Lu Xia scratched his head while looking at the pile of documents on the floor and those Sun Zheng had just put together. He failed to find the missing documents.

The only clue was the box in front of him.

He shifted his gaze back to the box. Picking it up, he looked at the box carefully and finally found a small number on its side.

Thankfully, this box was left behind. Thus, he could find the documents in the two boxes labeled with the numbers next to this number.

As time went on, he became more and more worried. He didn’t know where Sun Zheng had gone and what had happened to him, but he was certain that the longer they stayed in the cavern, the more likely they were to transform from human to monster, just like that “thing”.

He managed to remove a leg of the chair (luckily there was a high chair) and limped towards the file cabinets against the wall on it.

He roughly identified a few cabinets according to the order of the box number and the order of the number indicated on each file in the pile. When he got closer, he shone the torch carefully on the cabinets. Sure enough, someone had opened some of the cabinets recently, because the dust had been partially brushed off them, while the rest of the cabinets were still covered in thick dust.

All the cabinets were locked. Lu Xia suddenly remembered the key in his pocket. Was the key used to open one of these cabinets?

He took out the pale-colored key from his pocket. He had carefully observed this key someone had sent him at home. Its color and material were very unusual. It glowed like a shell and the material was exquisite as if made from good gems.

How much was it worth?! He secretly sighed while trying to unlock the cabinets.

However, the holes were too small and none of them could fit with it.

With a frown, he carefully put the key back into his pocket. It seemed that he could only force open the doors of these cabinets. Lu Xia took out a thin piece of wire he had just found rummaging through a drawer from his pocket and started to pry the lock.

After some time, he succeeded in prying open all the cabinets. A large pile of old things fell out: useless employee certificates, performance appraisal sheets, and even calculators and language repeaters.

As these all looked like ordinary things, he was a little disappointed. Had someone taken something away?

At this moment, he suddenly heard a familiar voice ringing from not far away with horror.

“Lu Xia!!!!!!!!”
