Chapter 29: Compensation for the Glass

Sophia felt her heart beating fast.

She didn’t know if it was because she had drunk some wine just now or something else…

The bright lights in the tavern shone on her red cheeks. Her expression was a little awkward, and the atmosphere was a little ambiguous.

Alan took out a new cup from the drawer and refilled it with wine. He pushed it to Sophia, who changed seats, and then cleaned up the mess.

“I’ll compensate you for the cup. Tell me what you want, and I’ll try my best to satisfy you,” Sophia said to Alan, who just finished cleaning up.

Alan never thought about compensation.. After all, in his previous life, glass was everywhere. It was not a valuable thing, but it had not appeared in this world yet.

Sophia thought that glass was a precious material, and now she was feeling uneasy because she broke a glass.

“It’s just a glass, don’t mind it.” Alan rejected her suggestion with a smile.

Sophia was still a little surprised. Although Alan didn’t mind it at all, she should compensate him for breaking the precious glass.

“No, I should compensate for breaking something.”Sophia shook her head and insisted.

Alan looked at the elf who stubbornly said that she would compensate him. He felt a little helpless. Everything in his tavern was prepared by the system. If something was missing, the system would automatically replace it. There was no need for him to spend money at all.

“Sigh, then pay me one gold coin,” Alan said straightforwardly.

Sophia looked hesitant. Alan asked for too little. Was one gold coin enough?

“If you must pay, then give me one gold coin. I didn’t want you to pay to begin with,” Alan said, blocking her refusal.

Sophia saw that she couldn’t make up for it right away, so she had to restrain herself. She planned to think about how to make up for it when she went back.

This small interlude completely broke the awkward atmosphere.

Alan hesitated again and said, “Actually, mister Wayne is really nice. Don’t think too much about what he said.”

Sophia looked at the nervous young man in front of her. She didn’t expect that the drunkard could affect him so deeply in just three days.

“Okay.” Although it was only one word, Alan could hear the calmness in Sophia’s tone. She wasn’t angry anymore, right?

After putting the matter of Wayne aside, the atmosphere between the two gradually became warm again.

Before Sofia left, she made an agreement with Alan that she would come tomorrow morning to collect the magic Lafite that was to be supplied to the elves this month. He nodded in agreement and then went upstairs to rest as usual.

The next morning, the sun was shining brightly. Alan was woken up by an unknown bird outside the window.

The night before, he chatted with Sofia until late so he could not get up.

Alan always wanted to have a cat. No matter which world he was in, he firmly believed that he was a cat lover. Unfortunately, he did not have the time before, but now he had time but no cat…

There were no ordinary animals like cats and dogs on the Hailaer continent. In this world, there were only magical beasts and wild beasts. Magical beasts with intelligence would not accept being kept in captivity by humans, and wild beasts without intelligence could not be kept in captivity.

After staying up all night and waking up early just to think about such a painful thing, Alan felt very helpless.

He took out the magical Lafite that he was going give Sofia from the winery and bottled it. The wine that he prepared for Orina and her clansmen was the one that he aged for a long time.

Before the appointment, Alan prepared all the wine. Sofia then came to the tavern.

“Yo, Good Morning!”

“It’s almost noon, how it is ‘good morning’,” Sofia said with disdain.

“Uh… isn’t ‘Good Morning’ easier to say? Don’t be so calculative,” Alan argued.

Sofia heard his twisted reasoning and rolled her eyes elegantly. “Where’s the wine? Is it all ready?”

“It’s ready. It’s in the backyard, but are you alone? How are you going to bring it back to the elf clan?” Alan was puzzled. How was a person going to bring hundreds of bottles of wine away?

“Just bring me to the wine.” Sophia looked very pleased with herself.

Although Alan was puzzled, he was more curious. He also wanted to know how Sophia could bring hundreds of bottles of wine by herself.

In front of the cellar in the backyard, there were stacks of neatly placed wine bottles. They looked pleasing to the eye, accompanied by the fragrance of wine wafting out from the winery.

“The smell of wheat. This is the fragrance of your new drink, right?” Sophia stood there and sniffed for a long time.

Alan nodded proudly. “Yes, the new drink is made from wheat.”

Sophia looked at Alan’s smug look and felt he looked a little cute. “Pfft…”

“Sorry, I’m not mocking.” Sophia suddenly smiled at Alan.

It was the first time that Alan saw Sophia smile so brightly. From the first time he saw her, her expression was always cold or serious. Her smile was as warm as the melting snow in early spring.

“Why are you staring at me?!” Perhaps it was because she felt uncomfortable being stared at by Alan, Sophia gradually put away her smile and returned to her cold expression.

Alan came back to his senses and realized that he was rude. He quickly explained, “This is the first time I’ve seen you smile like this. I feel a little strange. It’s that kind of ‘Ah, so Sophia can smile so happily’ feeling.”

After he said that, he felt a little embarrassed. He subconsciously looked away and stopped looking at her.

Sophia’s face suddenly turned red again, and her heart beat faster. It was very similar to the palpitations last night. She wondered if there was something wrong with her body. Recently, no matter what the young man said, she could not stay calm. It was very strange.

“I can bring all the wine back by myself because I know the spatial magic of the elf race.” Sophia avoided the topic just now and talked about magic. However, her expression was gentle and the coldness from before could no longer be seen.

When Alan heard her talk about spatial magic, he immediately stopped being shy and turned to look at Sophia drawing something in the air.

Following her movements, a magic circle appeared in the air and emitted a warm white light. Sophia directed the magic circle in the air to approach the pile of wine bottles. Then, in Alan’s shocked expression, the wine disappeared. She waved her hand again and the magic circle disappeared. Everything returned to normal.

Alan looked at Sophia with envy on his face. He cursed the heavens in his heart, ‘Damn it, spatial magic is so cool! I’m the Chosen One, why can’t I learn magic?’

Sofia looked at the envious Alan and felt regretful. He was such an outstanding young man but he did not have any talent in magic. Her face was filled with sympathy for him.

On the Hailar continent, magic was the life of the world. A mage was the noblest profession. Everything that lived on the continent was related to magic.

Those who did not know magic were the lowest class of ordinary people. Even though Alan was talented in brewing wine, as long as someone wanted to kill him, any magic would be able to make him die young and without any resistance.

Although Alan was depressed that he could not learn magic, he never thought that he was so useless in Sophia’s eyes.
