THAT DAY I BECAME A STAR

FIFTEEN YEARS LATER, FARNER SAINT AXELANDRIA POV:

"Mom!! Wake up!! Your breakfast is getting cold already!" 

"Fuah…" When I wake up, the sun is greeting my face, blinding me slightly as it enters through the window. Ah, it is another sunny day, another beautiful day where I can laze around and sleep until midday.

"Okay, okay. I am coming." 

Fifteen years have passed ever since that day. That God, Varian said I was pregnant; but to my surprise, it took me another year to give birth. People were really surprised to see my stomach getting bigger without any apparent reason. And so was I , to say the truth. I gave her the first name that came to my mind when I saw her tiny body crying in my hands: Ruka. 

Down the stairs, I find Ruka together with Arthur and Ruth.. After everything settles down, Lanuvel proposed that we come to his house that he received from the king. People don't remember him as anything more than a devil who cooperated with the Longinus though. It was therefore a bit difficult to obtain his home back but still, we were given the whole area as an acknowledgement of all our services. I left the eternal army and the church after that as well. 

"Mom!! Why do you always sleep so much?!! Mother Lan is always angry at you for that, you know?!" 

Ruka is now fourteen, she is a year younger than her half brother and sister, Arthur and Ruth. She looks just like me. Blonde hair, blue eyes, white skin, there is almost nothing that could prove she is his child, except for her eyes that turn red when she uses Angas. She possesses his power as well, the power of dragon if I can call it like that. We haven't told them who their father is. It is sad but because they were already told by people what the name Dragonroad represents, we thought we should keep it to ourselves. 

I was really surprised to see her use the same power so nonchalantly the first time she learned about Angas. Though, it was more because of her brother and sister. 

"Just leave her alone, Ruka. You know that Mom isn't one to work in the morning, right? Besides, when she decides to do something, even you can't compete with her." 

"No, Arthur. It is precisely because we spoil her like so that she keeps behaving this way." Arthur is the splitting image of his father: brown skin, silver hair, red eyes. A perfect copy, so to speak. Though, yeah, he doesn't have that bad tendency to do things without telling anyone about it, not yet at least. 

"Why are always so naggy? You are going to end up a granny before you know it, Ruka." 

Ruth has only inherit the same skin color as her father. Her eyes and hair are the same as Lanuvel. It is surprising for twins to be that different but I guess those things can happen, right? And since all of them can use the dragons' power, it is clear that they are his children. 

I sit on the table and the maid brings me my food. To my surprise, the children come and sit with me…Hm, you little gluttons.

"Didn't you eat your food already?" 

"Yeah, but mom's food tastes better." 

"Yeah, it's true." 

"You guys are adults already. You should stop munching off other people's food. Besides, you are all too fat for your age." 

"Eh?!!"

"No way! I am not fat!! Aunty Kel even said she would buy me a new dress if I can maintain my weight!" 

"And I am faster than Christopher so I can't be fat." 

Sigh, those children. They really took after you a lot. As for Christopher…He is Kel and Pet's child. He should be fourteen as well now, right? She gave birth the same year as me after all. Which reminds me, today should be Alphonse's birthday.

I wonder if he will come to visit. He is the new high commander of the eternal army so I don't think he will have the time but you never know. After all, he came out of the blue one day and started training the children when they were ten. He was as surprised as us when he saw them use their father's power. Though Ruth and Arthur are slightly weaker than Ruka even when they use it.

Germinia is his second in command. The last time he was here, Alphonse told us he forced her to get married. I hope her husband is still alive. 

As for your father...After everything that happened, nobody knows where he is. Excia looked for him for five years but she didn't find him. I really wonder where he went. Did he remember as well? 

"Mom?" 

"Hm! Oh, sorry." 

"So, can we?" 

"Okay, okay. But you only taste it and that's it, okay?" 

"Yes, mom!"

After our meal, we go to the garden and I find Lanuvel sitting on a bench, reading a book, with Genesis in her wheelchair, under one of the trees of the garden. 

"It is quite rare of you to read a book when it is this beautiful outside." I sit next to her and take a look at the book she is reading. It is one of the books she found inside the mansion, the ones about fishing I think. 

"We are growing old so we should act like it, right?" 

"We? Speak for yourself, I am still young as ever, you know?" 

"With all those wrinkles on your face? Dream on." 

"You are just jealous." 

Pfft. If you say so." 

"Grrr… Anyway, did she say anything today?" 

"No, sadly. I thought bringing her to the garden would help since the weather is so nice but I guess it is not so easy." 

After Kevin sacrificed himself that day, the Longinus completely and utterly disappeared from Schamerin. Not even the portals that were opening from time to time are reported anywhere. That idiot really knew what he was doing.If only he told us... As for Genesis, I asked to become her guardian. 

Nobody, even Excia, wanted to help her even though she was looking so pathetic. Her eyes have been dead ever since and she doesn't say a word. It was very difficult to feed her at the beginning since she wouldn't even swallow the food we were giving her. Thankfully, at least now, she eats a little and regains some weight. 

Excia has decided to stay in the eternal army. She is one of the actual powerhouses that bring it to the top together with Alphonse. Though, now, they are mostly acting as an independent force trying to bring peace between countries. After all, Longinus disappearing simply meant humans would fight among themselves more. 

"Hey! That's my spot! Go somewhere else!" 

"EH?! Who decides that?!" 

Those children…They really can't stop fighting. They are still behaving like they have ten years old. They always start getting on each other's head as soon as we aren't looking. I can't count how many times they broke something in this house now. 

"It really feels good." 

"Yeah." 

I can't deny it, Lanuvel. Sitting like this, the warmth of the sun, the sound of the wind as he gets through the trees' leaves…This is bliss. No matter how many times I sit here like this. I feel at ease, my body, my soul gets a litle bit away from that loneliness that eats it away slowly. 

"He was a real idiot, right?" 

"Fufufu. Was it not what we liked about him?"

Lanuvel starts crying while leaning on my shoulder. Since she has started, I can't cry as well, right? I have to stay strong, right? 

Suddenly, a warm wind blows around and sweeps us gently, like a gentle caress that comes as an answer to a long-time prayer. 

"Ah... Ah..." For the first time since then, Genesis makes some sounds but before we can even understand what us going on...

"I love you."

His voice resounds in my ears together with the wind. Right after that, Lanuvel gets up like an arrow and looks at me with red crying and surprised eyes.

"You…you heard it as well?" 

"Y-yeah." 

"Fufu…ahahaha! That idiot! That big egoist idiot!!!"

I can't... I can't bear it as well, it seems. Tears start flowing down my eyes without my consent and while I clean them, I see Ruka and the others standing up and coming to us. 

"Mom?" 

"Why are you two crying? Did we do something again?" 

"I am sure it wasn't me. I am their favorite after all." 

"There is no way you are, Ruth." 

"You want to say that again, Ruka?"

"Fufufu." I pat their heads gently and Lanuvel does the same after me. "You guys, did I ever tell you the story of the dragon who saved the world?" 

Even your children don't know who you truly were, who you truly are. It is such a shame but if it is the price you decided to pay for this happiness on their faces, then I…we must continue to steel ourselves every day as well, as proof of our love for you.

"Dragon? Wait, the giant lizards that the Longinus were using?"

"Nope, the real one. There was only a single dragon here on Schamerin, after all." 

"Eh? Are you sure, Mother Lan?" 

"Yeah. Just sit down, we will tell you. The story of a guy who became the biggest star in the sky…"
