A few days later…

Milim has settled nicely into Avalon. She always wanders around the city, taking in the new sights and experiencing many new things. Looking at the many stalls and shops around Avalon, looking at the workshops and how people go around their craft, and things like that.

She likes to drop by Kurobei and his blacksmith workshop to watch since he’s the most skilled.

Most of my time is also spent wandering around outside with her. I did ‘take up the job’ of looking after Milim after all. I have to make sure she doesn’t break things every 5 minutes while occasionally punching the face of a rando.

Sometimes other people will join in too when they have free time, like Mikoto, Shuna, Shion, Illya and others.

She likes Gabil the best.

Oh sorry, let me rephrase that.

She likes MESSING AROUND with Gabil the best. I think he might be a little bit scared of her now.

But she doesn’t wander around Avalon all day. She also spends a lot of her time at my house. She also sleeps here too.

She almost became addicted to video games but I was able to stop her and now she only plays it now and again.

I mean, if she’s on the consoles 24/7, when am I gonna get a turn? Exactly.

I'm joking.

But she likes to hang out with Mikoto and Illya the most.

Most of the time it’s all 4 of us hanging out. Sometimes Shion, Shuna, Ranga, Shizu, Benimaru, Soei, Hakurou, Kurobei and/or whoever else also drops by to hang out. But she’s the happiest with Mikoto and Illya.

If she’s with them, sometimes I just let all of them go off on their own for a ‘girls only’ session. I trust Illya enough to look after them. I WOULD trust Mikoto too, but she’s not exactly the most responsible person I know. I mean, if certain conditions are met, Mikoto might even join Milim in the chaos.

I have no idea what they do when they’re off alone, but I don’t interfere. I mean, I once tried to find out what they do, but…

Rimuru- “Hey girls? I wanted to ask… you… something…”

I opened the door to a conspicuous room in my house, wanting to ask the girls a question. However, the scene in front of me made me lose any words I had to say.

In front of me was Shizu in the middle of a demonic ritual with Illya, Mikoto and Milim clapping to the side.

Rimuru- “…”

*Closes door slowly*

… Women are scary.

Anyway, that was a while ago.

I am currently sitting on the sofa, thinking about the spar I had with Milim. Specifically, I was thinking about a flaw that only became obvious during the fight.

Mikoto- “Something on your mind?”

Mikoto walks up from behind me holding a couple of drink cans in each of her hands, offering one of them to me. I look up at her, smile, and accept the offered can. It’s my favourite, meat bun flavoured canned tea.

Rimuru- “I was thinking about some stuff. A weakness of mine, to be exact.”

Mikoto- “*Sip* You have a weakness?”

Mikoto speaks with a raised eyebrow and a playful smile. She’s just joking, poking fun at my OPness. Everyone has a weakness after all, whether it’s something easy to exploit or not is a different story.

Rimuru- “Yeah. I realised my defensive prowess isn't actually all that great. My [Multilayer Barrier] skill is an Intrinsic Skill, but it isn't exactly on the level of a Unique Skill. It can't make full use of my massive magicule pool. *Sip*”

It’s like having infinite electricity but no matter how much you channel into your computer, it won't make your computer faster. You’ll need better hardware for that.

It’s the same with me, I have infinite magicules, but [Multilayer Barrier] can only defend against so much before breaking. There’s an upper limit.

I realised this flaw of mine during my fight with Milim. That girl… broke through my defence like it was paper. Thank god for [Infinite Regeneration]…

I explain the general situation to Mikoto, who listens attentively next to me. I find simply voicing out my thoughts to someone can help make things clearer to myself.

Mikoto- “Hmm… *Sip* So basically you need a better defensive skill?”

Rimuru- “Basically. I'm just wondering how to go about it. *Sip*”

Should I make a brand new skill or should I evolve one I already have? I don’t like cluttering my skill list with skills I would never use, but evolving [Multilayer Barrier]…

Mikoto- “Well, I never really had that sort of problem. I can just destroy any attack coming towards me with lightning. If it’s too close for that, I can just block it physically by manipulating iron sand particles.”

Rimuru- “*Sigh* I'm a bit jealous, your Electromaster is such a versatile ability.”

Mikoto- “True, but isn't your Space Manipulation also pretty versatile?”

Rimuru- “Yeah, if only I could use it defensively…”

Mikoto looks we me with a smug expression as my eyes slowly widen in realisation.

Rimuru- “… I'm an idiot.”

Mikoto- “Yup.”

Rimuru- “Where’s Illya?”

I ask Mikoto a question while putting down my can of coffee on the coffee table in front of me.

Mikoto- “She’s with Milim in the kitchen. They wanted to bake some cookies together and I'm just taking a break.”

Rimuru- “Alright. Thank you, Mikoto! You’re the best!”

I stand up and run off to the kitchen while thanking the smug woman. Man, she’s really smart… well, I'm also dumb as fuck…

After Rimuru left, Mikoto closes her eyes and takes a sip from the can in her hand. Then, she cracks one of her eyes open, taking a peek at the can of coffee on the coffee table.

She opens her eyes fully and takes a look around warily.

Mikoto- “W-well, it would be a waste if it’s just left like that… Yup! It can't be helped! I'm just doing a small favour. This is completely normal. I mean, you shouldn’t waste things like this…”

While muttering random excuses, her hand reaches out to the can of coffee and picks it up. She slowly brings it towards her mouth, and with flushed cheeks, she shyly takes a small sip.

Mikoto- “… Bitter…”

She ended up drinking the rest of it anyway.
