The Birth of a Villainess

Chapter 256 - Devoured (1)

Inside the bedchamber.

Bai Lu and Jing Chu was walking in circles as they bite their nails. It had been almost an hour since their young miss has left the chamber with a dark look on her face after having spoken with Shen Mo.

Jing Chu turned to Shen Mo who was silently standing on the side and said, "What did you exactly tell our young miss? Where did she go?"

Shen Mo stared at her for a second before averting his eyes away. He was guilty, alright. He knew he shouldn't tell Lin Xiaofei the truth too soon but he was scared stiff at the way she was staring at him when she was interrogating him.

He simply just couldn't lie to her. Especially, when he already knew what she was capable of making him do.

Scratching the back of his neck, he said, "I didn't say anything though." Playing innocent was the only thing he could do now.

The two young maids glared daggers at him, but they couldn't really blame him since they also didn't get to follow their young miss as she took off before they could take notice of what was wrong with her.

But what took her so long? And where is she?

At this moment, the person in question and the young miss they were looking for was now walking around the garden after she made a detour.

Since the moment she left her bedchamber, she could sense someone watching her. And when she entered the study, it disappeared for a moment, but returned after she left it. Now, this person was following her everywhere she went.

Taking a few more steps closer to the garden, Lin Xiaofei made use of the shrubs that were standing tall to hinder that person's sight and hid behind one of the tall shrubs that covered her entire body from that person's prying eyes.

She waited for that person to come out and go to her side. But he didn't. Like two predators waiting for the time when their unknowing prey relaxed their guards, the two of them silently waited for the exact moment to attack.

A minute passed. Two… Three. Nothing happened.

Lin Xiaofei wondered if that person who was coming after her fled somewhere else after thinking that she escaped. But that was only her wishful thinking since the assassin that Bai Jia Li sent was lurking around the shadows. And she knew it.

When the wind picked up, the leaves rustled and the twigs moved back and forth, making the shadows move and along with it, the assassin also crept closer to where she stood.

'crrk…'

The crunch noise came from her left side. Slightly behind her and quite closer than she thought.

Lin Xiaofei didn't delay anymore and took the buyao attached to her hair in her hand. The tip of the hair ornament was sharpened to kill but that was not all, it was also dipped in poison and anyone who was stabbed with it will feel the effect quickly.

Just as Lin Xiaofei was preparing herself to strike, the assassin was already raising his hand, a dagger in it.

'swiish!'

The sound of something stabbing the air startled Lin Xiaofei and she quickly turned her body to the side. She was able to evade the first stab, but she didn't expect that the assassin had two daggers in his hands. Thus, when she evaded the first strike, the assassin was already executing the second stab.

"Ssss…" Lin Xiaofei sucked thin air as she felt the tip of the dagger digging into her skin. Thankfully for her quick reflex, the dagger didn't stab her deeply, but it still sliced through her skin, leaving a horrifying-looking gash on her arm.

Lin Xiaofei glared at the assassin and twisted the buyao in her hand. She saw a chance to strike back and the tip of her weapon was just an inch away from his eyes. But before it could even graze him, she felt her body being pulled back with extreme force after he kicked her away.

She was ruthlessly pushed to the ground.

It was quite evident just how much the difference of their strength was. He was a trained assassin while she was just a woman who knew how to fight but didn't have that much strength nor techniques to subdue her enemy in close combat.

Lin Xiaofei could already tell that if she somehow didn't get away from him and that place, he will surely succeed in eliminating. But who exactly ordered him? And how could he enter the residence without alarming Qu Xing Xu's men? And where were they when she needed them?

She did not need to linger on these useless thoughts as she focused her attention towards the assassin.

Seeing her on the ground with her arms bleeding, the assassin smiled wickedly. He was quite pleased with himself. Women of her age and even older couldn't possess such raw and thick killing intent. It was only unique to people who were extremely evil and wicked, and veteran assassins.

And yet, this woman before him was proving his previous theory about women being weak wrong.

At first, he was surprised to see that Lin Xiaofei would take a detour and hide in the garden. He was even more shocked at the viciousness that emanated from her when she held the buyao to his eyes.

Fortunately, he was able to kick her in time, or else the one who would be lying on the ground, bleeding could've been him.

Lin Xiaofei slowly stood up from the ground, her buyao still in her hand. If there was a time she regretted before she died, it was not to take her dagger before she left the bedchamber.

"You're quite fearless for a woman. You almost fight as well as a man." He said to her, taking two steps closer to her.

"Funny, I was going to say the same thing about you." Lin Xiaofei said and threw the handful of dirt she took from the ground at him.

The assassin was caught off guard and didn't have the time to block his eyes from the dirt. It flew directly to his eyes and mouth.

"Ugh! Cuffh!" The assassin made quite a fuss over a handful of dirt.

He kept swinging his hands as if he was swarmed with bees. But it didn't lessen the dangerous aura around him. On the contrary, it doubled as the only thing he wanted now was to slice Lin Xiaofei's head off her shoulders.

Screw it! He did not care whether Bai Jia Li complained about him not raping his target and take Lin Xiaofei to her anymore!

"You bitch!" The assassin hollered profanity at her. He raised his hand with the other dagger in it, ready to do what he exactly imagined earlier.

But then, when he completely raised his hand to strike, a 'thud' and 'clink' sound caught his ears.

When he looked down, he saw his arm lying on the ground. The dagger was just right next to it.

And there were several black tendrils almost like tiny snakes lingered around it.

"Just who do you think you are, attacking and calling somebody else's wife names?" A cold voice like steel sounded from behind him, "Aren't you afraid that your rotten mouth will fall off your face?
