The Birth of a Villainess

Chapter 37 - Rabbit Moon Festival (II)

"This is very confusing. You can't just tell me not to become vigilant and trust on you." Chu Chu said as she fiercely glared at Lin Xiaofei.

"I understand. That is alright with me since we're quite similar". Lin Xiaofei sighed, deciding to not force Chu Chu to believe her. On the contrary, she was glad that Chu Chu always had her guard up and did not easily believe or trust anyone lest it would result in her doom.

Lin Xiaofei's tendencies are comparable to the lady's. Their minds just refuse to easily trust anybody after suffering from many betrayals. However, because she was given a second chance inside the body of another, Lin Xiaofei knew that she could wholeheartedly trust Chu Chu, although she will never gain the confidence of her trust.

She grew up in an unkempt and destitute environment, Chu Chu being by her side. They grew up together while experiencing the harshness of the world. They were renowned as the 'Two Mischievous Princess' in their small town. For that reason, the townspeople would always try to send them away for the the mischiefs that they would perpetrate without fail.

Lin Xiaofei leaned her chin on her hand as she kept her eyes on the petal dancing in her teacup.

Chu Chu was uncomfortable with the situation she was in and said, "W-what are you going to do with the 'box' anyway? Are you perhaps going to use it for your own benefit or let others use it?. And how the hell do you know about it?" She then took a slight before slowly continuing, "I can't just let you have the box when we both know what kind of identity you hold. You might be capable enough to involve innocent people in the event and whatever you are planning may fail miserably."

Considering that Lin Xiaofei is a noble young lady from one of the greatest families in the Zheng empire, anything that she plans to would have an implication to other people.

Chu Chu simply feared that the innocent would be meaninglessly roped-in the things that they'll plan in the future. Adding the fact that Lin Xiaofei is infamous for her idiocy and wickedness, who knows what kinds of trouble she will cause upon herself and the others.

That is why Chu Chu is finding it hard to entrust the box to Lin Xiaofei, who suddenly popped out of nowhere and claimed to know her friend, Xiaofei.

Strangely, Chu Chu couldn't force to ask the young female in front of her about the details of how she is related to the late Xiaofei since the aura she exudes makes one feel intimated to the point that stops them from speaking.

Lin Xiaofei claimed to know her friend, Xiaofei, but who knows if she was lying all about it and was planted by someone else to inquire.

Thus, Chu Chu became more unsure of what she should do and say at the moment. Chu Chu couldn't help but be wary at her reply when Lin Xiaofei suddenly answered her.

"Using it for one's personal reasons or letting others use it, what's the difference when the contents of the box could only be used against the people who should fear it?" Lin Xiaofei smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes, "Are you asking about what great benefit would it give me if I use it for my own goals? What about letting others use it? Would they gain something from it?"

"No." She leaned forward and stared straight at Chu Chu, "No one's gaining anything. We will lose something when the contents of the box are brought out to light. Heads would roll on the ground, and the Zheng empire would be eaten alive by the other kingdoms that are watching closely like a beast."

"That's how dangerous the contents that sit inside the box holds."

"Then why would you still desire for it? After knowing the risks and consequences tied to the box, why do you still want it?" Chu Chu frowned before shaking her head in disbelief, "I don't believe that you would be willing to sacrifice both wealth and living in peace just to wreak havoc and raise confusion in the empire."

As a woman who previously worked in a brothel, Chu Chu knew that women always opted to live peacefully and on brocade and flowers. They wanted to marry the most eligible nobleman to get out of the slump where they're at. Even the young ladies from a good family would dream of falling in love and be the envy of everyone once they are married.

Hence, Lin Xiaofei, the fourth young miss of the Lin family, should also be considering this. However, from what Chu Chu could surmise of the lass in front of her, she didn't have the aura of a young noble lady who daydreams of a future from a fantasy.

Through Lin Xiaofei's words, Chu Chu finally understood why the box was so important to her friend that she was willing to undergo endless torture and die without opening her mouth.

All of a sudden, the young female sitting afore her raised her hand to take a sip from the cup. Then, as she slowly lowered the ceramic, a sinister smile bloomed on her face.

"I have no need for you to believe me." Lin Xiaofei said, "As for what or who to sacrifice, I naturally would have already considered that."

"You did?" Chu Chu anxiously asked.

"Yes." Lin Xiaofei wickedly smirked as she looked outside through the slightly opened window.

...

When Chu Chu got out of the carriage, she noticed that the sky is now slightly dark since the sun, that was at its highest peak the moment she entered the carriage, was now trying to set and hide. The clouds didn't make it better as the day became gloomy even though. Furthermore, the bright and lively lanterns of every establishment situated along the streets were lit.

Turning around to look behind her, Chu Chu was uncertain regarding how she should feel about the young female currently sitting inside the carriage.

They discussed a lot of things and each instance that Lin Xiaofei opened her mouth, Chu Chu couldn't stop the feeling of bewilderment along with the cold shivers that she constantly gets from scrutinizing her.

She has never seen anyone that could speak their mind as evil as Lin Xiaofei.

Even her friend, Xiaofei, who was known for her wickedness would reconsider a lot of things and try to gain more than lose. Withal, Lin Xiaofei was similar to those suicide soldiers who could sacrifice everything, even with their lives to achieve their goal.
