“So what exactly are you talking about?” Lin Tuo’s face was completely dumbfounded, while Lin, who was standing at the side, narrowed her eyes.

“Can you please explain what exactly is going on?”

“I need to explain things? Hahaha.” Ji Bai gave Lin a ruminating glance.

“Does Miss Parasite still plan to play dumb? Very well, let me spell it out for you. This building was attacked by demons; Trolls intruded and wrecked this building, it’s still unclear as to how many people have lost their lives here.” Ji Bai narrowed his eyes as he shifted them towards Huo Lei, whose complexion was now gradually turning somewhat unsightly.

“So, are any of you thinking of something now?”

“…Did you really confirm that they were truly trolls?” The completely subservient Lin Tuo abruptly spoke up at this moment. The expression on his face had gradually turned solemn.

“The corpses are up there. You can go up and take a look to pay your last respects if you don’t believe me,” as he spoke, Ji Bai had seemingly shot a glance at Huo Lei purposefully or incidentally.

“…Are you suspecting us to be the ones behind this incident?” Lin looked at Ji Bai straight in the eyes as she said this.

“Let me correct you a bit. I’m not suspecting you, rather, I’m 100% certain that this is the case.” Ji Bai’s gaze pierced Lin Tuo like a razor-sharp knife.

“…” Surprisingly, Lin Tuo didn’t try to explain anything. He crossed his arms around his chest and slightly knitted his brows as if he was pondering over a severe matter.

“Are there any other demons around the entire border city? No! So far, all of the demons I have encountered all come from your organization!” Ji Bai coldly swept his eyes around the people at the scene.

“Use your brain and think about it for a moment. If we truly had some other intentions, why would we have chosen to strike now?  What’s more, why would we accept someone like you, who is a member of the Chivalric Order, into our organization?” Lin’s cold eyes came into contact with Ji Bai’s.

“In that case, would you be so kind as to explain to me how these trolls made their way here? Don’t try to give explanations that you don’t even believe; Like saying they have brute-forced their way here!”

Just when the scene had gone out of hand, a ringtone that had echoed out of his bosom interrupted Lin Tuo, who was deep in thought.

“Hello, Lan Yi? What’s wrong?” Lin Tuo’s calm tone carried a trace of graveness in it. It was completely unlike the ingratiating demeanor he had when he first encountered Ji Bai that was as if he was submitting himself to her.

“…” A series of unintelligible mumblings could be heard from the phone.  Although Ji Bai couldn’t hear the contents clearly, he could still see that Lin Tuo’s eyes were subtly fluctuating.

“Alright, I understand. By the way, there’s no need to dispatch the rescue team. You guys can go about your business… Yes, I’m sure,” Lin Tuo solemnly said this as his eyes flitted past the bodies of everyone in the scene, including Ji Bai.

“Alright. That’s all.” Lin Tuo hung the call.

“Student Ji Bai, may I ask you to put the issue of whether you trust us or not to the side? I have just received news that a figurative sea of troll soldiers, whose numbers exceed 5 wings, have been standing outside the city wall for a long time. They have completely encircled the border city; nothing can go in or out.”

“What??” Ji Bai’s complexion darkened while the expressions of the students present had also turned somewhat unsightly. This was especially true for Lil’ Sha, her two cat-ears were trembling like a garlic pounder.

The Asiatic cat race had an inherent incapacitating fear towards trolls.

There was no way they could be unfamiliar with what would happen if trolls, that were termed as ‘barbaric beasts’, were to occupy a besieged city.

“Have this pack of dogs eaten a leopard’s guts? With the barrier to the city gates still remaining, how could they…” Ji Bai suddenly recalled the group of trolls that retreated earlier and creased his eyebrows. He had a feeling that things weren’t as simple as it looked.

“According to the investigation done by our hidden unit, the barrier that should’ve been enclosing the city gate had stopped working two hours ago.” Lin Tuo’s tone turned somewhat heavy.

“How could that be…?” Ji Bai’s finger trembled slightly. As he fell into a trance and looked towards the direction of the city wall, he thought back to the words his teacher that initiated him had said.

“Is the barrier very important, Mr. Teacher?” Ji Bai curiously asked this question back when he was a probationary knight.

His old, grey-haired teacher sighed. “At the end of the day, humans and demons are creatures of two different levels. The gap between them is very hard to overcome… Lil’ Bai, you’re still young, and there’s still a very, very, long way before you become a silver knight. But do you know something? Only people who become silver knights are qualified to go on the battlefield. In truth, it’s a cinch for an inferior foot soldier of the Demon Race to go against two well-trained silver knights…”

“Now, do you know what would happen if the barrier stops functioning?”

“As soon as the knights fail, the impending result will be a one-sided massacre. When that happens, blood will flow like rivers.”

…………

“What about the Chivalric Order? Have they reached the castle walls?” Ji Bai appeared to be somewhat flustered.

“There are only a few soldiers that are patrolling the walls. Everything will be too late once they finish processing the request for troops to be dispatched here.” Lin Tuo shook his head as he placed them against his hand.

“How did things turn out this way…” Ji Bai clenched his fist tightly.

“But this isn’t the main point. These trolls have merely encircled the city for now and they shouldn’t be able to fight their way in for a while. The important matter right now is that Ke’er was abducted by a bunch of trolls 10 minutes ago.”

“??? What did you say?!”

…………

About half an hour ago.

“Are you sure you’re okay going by yourself? If you have anything you need, you can just tell me. There’s no need to make a trip in person.”

“It’s fine. I already put my ears and tail away. No one will suspect me this way~” Ke’er rubbed the earphone she was wearing on her head as she smiled.

“Alright… But you still need to tell me what you’re planning to do outside, okay? Human society isn’t as peaceful and secure as you think it is,” Lan Yi said in a rather helpless manner.

“Uhm. It isn’t anything much~ It’s just that two days earlier when I was cleaning up the house, I found out that Mr. Ji Bai didn’t have a single winter outfit in his wardrobe~ I was thinking of buying some clothes for him since it’s almost mid-winter~” Ke’er lowered her head in a rather embarrassed manner.

“Ji Bai must have done a lot of good deeds in his past life to have picked you up” Lan Yi could only heave a sigh upon hearing this.

“The route to the department store is already marked on the map. Do you need me to dispatch a person to lead the way?”

“I can find it with no problem~ Thank you, Sister Lan Yi~” After she bent her body slightly forward and expressed her gratitude towards Lan Yi, Ke’er turned her body and walked towards the doors of ‘Hope Elementary School’.

“…All of you. Follow behind Ke’er and make sure to protect her with your life. If anyone bears any malice towards her, strike them down immediately.” A while after Ke’er’s departure, Lan Yi kept walking back and forth in a completely uneasy manner. Eventually, she decided to summon a few knights from within their Chivalric Order and pass them these instructions.

“Understood!” The few knights who were dressed in disguise patted their shoulders with their clenched fist. After accepting their orders, they walked out of the room.

“Munch, munch, munch…” Sitting on the executive chair behind her was a silver-haired girl, she was energetically munching away at a bag of potato chips. Her face was currently filled with enthusiasm as she watched the movie that was playing on her IP*d.

“Your Excellency Chivalry Leader… Can I beg you to act somewhat like a vampire?” Lan Yi turned around. She was quite speechless as she looked at the silver-haired girl, who was currently putting her legs on the table and sitting in an unbridled position.

“Munch, munch, munch… Hmm? QwQ?” With her bulging cheeks crammed with potato chips, the girl unknowingly raised her head.

“…I’m willing to guarantee that if the vampire queen were to see you right now, she’d probably want nothing more than to exile you from the royal household.” Lan Yi heaved a sigh.
