The Blue Eyes
Chapter 118 - ADDICTED
It was almost midnight when they finally arrived in the city. The asphalt was still wet, the air was still chilly, indicating that the rain had just stop not too long ago. The rain's trace remained on the objects that were not shielded.
A silent atmosphere enveloped the inside of the red car. Ever since Kris asked an unexpected question when they were still on the island, none of them open their mouths to speak. Jack didn't even answer the question and could only glare at the taller man. A few seconds later, he started walking to leave the tan-skinned man.
Kris couldn't guess what was on the tattooed man's mind, and they remained silent ever since. From the period when they were riding the speedboat to the period when they finally reached the mainland and moved to the car, no one had the initiative to break the silence. Even when the car started speeding on the road for hours, their mouths were still tightly locked.
"Can you tell Blue to inform her that we're on the way home? My phone died, so I can't tell Kevin."
Kris was the first one who broke the uncomfortable silence.
The silence was indeed uncomfortable. They had just developed their 'friendship' not too long ago, but now they turned into strangers again. As if the sweet moment on the island earlier was just a dream.
Jack, who was busy staring outside the window, calmly answered, "I've texted Blue two hours ago. She told me that Kevin is sleeping over in the orphanage."
Hearing his lover's name being mentioned, Kris was a bit surprised. Kris indeed left Kevin in the orphanage this morning, but he didn't expect his lover would stay the night there. He thought Kevin would go back to their apartment and wait for him there, but perhaps Kevin felt lonely and chose to stay in the orphanage instead.
"Why don't you say anything? Are you jealous knowing that your boyfriend is together with your niece the whole day today?" Jack asked the man who was driving next to him. He was no longer looking outside the windows and now giving his full attention to the other man.
"Why should I get jealous because of that? Blue is Kevin's little sister. It's normal for him to spend time with her."
A faint smirk spread across Jack's face. "How could you say Blue is Kevin's little sister when they're not related by blood? Blue is a teenager now. She is on her puberty, and it's the period when she will start falling in love with a man. You're too naive, Kris."
Kris gripped the steering wheel tighter after hearing Jack's provocation. "Just shut up, Jack!"
"Why should I?" Instead of being scared by the harsh tone, Jack boldly asked in a mock tone. "I only stated the truth." He peered at Kris and grinned evilly. "And I want to tell you a secret about Blue that related to Kevin, Kris."
Kris's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't guess what Jack was going to say. He acted like he didn't care, but actually, he was curious.
"When I escorted Blue to meet your father some time ago, I asked her about her true feeling toward Kevin. And, do you know what was her answer back then?" Jack asked while grinning dangerously. He knew Kris was still listening to him, so he continued, "She said she did have a feeling toward Kevin. Yeah, that kind of feeling. She did love Kevin as a man, Kris."
Kris's jaw tightened when he heard the new information. His heart beat faster, and his face flushed. His body turned stiff all of a sudden. Jack sneaked a peek at him and could see his reaction clearly. He then smirked in victory again.
"If you don't believe in what I said, then you can ask her directly. We're already here, anyway," Jack added as Kris's car gradually lost its speed when they arrived in front of the orphanage. Jack unfastened his seatbelt and added, "I wonder who will win between the uncle and the niece. I'll buy some popcorns to watch the show."
He then opened the car and stepped out of the four-wheeled vehicle. He walked to the orphanage while whistling merrily.
Meanwhile, Kris still froze in his seat. His hands were still gripping the steering wheel tight, and he hadn't turned off the car engine. There were some sweats on his forehead despite the chilly atmosphere tonight.
He took a deep breath once and exhaled through his mouth before he finally turned off the car engine and unbuckled his seatbelt. He then opened the car door and stepped out of the red vehicle. With heavy steps, he started walking toward the orphanage building.
The front door of the orphanage was opened, and he didn't hesitate to walk past it. There, in the living room, Blue was standing alone waiting for his arrival.
"Uncle! You are finally back! I was about to go outside to find you because Jack came in alone earlier and didn't say anything when I asked him about you."
Seeing Blue's expression that full of worries, the ambivalence inside his mind gradually diminished. He knew that he should care more about his niece than his own feelings.
He walked toward the girl and ruffled the girl's long hair when he arrived in front of her. "I'm sorry, Blue. I didn't mean to make you worry," he said tenderly. "And I'm sorry for waking you up in the middle of the night," he added as he noticed that Blue had already been in her pajamas.
"I was about to sleep when Jack texted me two hours ago, so you technically didn't wake me up, Uncle," the blue-eyed girl replied with a small smile. "I originally wanted to inform Brother Kevin about your arrival, but when I went to his room, he was already asleep. I didn't want to disturb his rest, so I didn't wake him up."
Hearing Kevin's name made Kris show a lassitude expression again. He then withdrew his hand from Blue's head and said, "You did a good job for not waking him up, Blue," he praised the young girl. "It's better for him to have a good rest. You better go to bed too, Blue. I'll sleep on the couch tonight."
Kris's sentence confused Blue. "Why don't you sleep with Brother Kevin in his room, Uncle?" She asked curiously.
The tall man sighed and walked over to the couch. He then sat down and leaned his tired back on the back of the couch. "I don't want to disturb his rest," he answered in a low voice. "It's okay, Blue. I can sleep anywhere. You better go to your room and have some rest, but please help me to close the door first."
The black-haired girl looked puzzled. She seemed to want to say something, but she held back and just sighed in the end. She then walked to the front door and closed it. Not forgetting, she also locked the door before turning around. Once again, she glanced at Kris, who was closing his eyes now.
She could sense that something was not right with her uncle, but she didn't dare to ask him. In the end, she decided to leave her uncle alone. "Good night, Uncle," she managed to whisper before she walked back to her room.
Kris could hear the whisper. He opened his eyes and whispered back, "Good night, Blue." But his niece had already left the living room, and he was the only one in that room.
"You don't want to say 'good night' to me?"
A familiar voice suddenly greeted his sense of hearing. He quickly looked up and found his handsome lover standing straight not so far from the couch he was sitting on.
"Kevin? Why did you wake up in the middle of the night?" The taller man asked in surprise.
Kevin didn't answer right away. Instead, he immediately walked over to the couch and sat down next to his lover. "It was cold. I tried to find warmness from your body, but you're not beside me," he then answered while looking at his lover with his slumberous eyes.
Ah, Kris missed his lover so much! It was only one day he was not with him, but the longing feeling in his heart had manifested rapidly, and he couldn't bear it anymore.
Kris chuckled and stroked his lover's hair gently. "It seems like you're addicted to me, Kev. You're even looking for me in your sleep."
Kevin snorted and swatted away the other man's hand on his head. He then rested his head on his lover's broad shoulder. "If I didn't look for you, then who should I look for?" He asked weakly while closing his eyes.
It was obvious that Kevin was still under the spell of drowsiness. He was indeed a sleeping beauty.
The question made Kris smile. He then circled his arm around his lover's body and kissed the top of his head lovingly. "You should only look for me, Kev. Only me and no one else," he said firmly, and both of them fell into the dreamland together.
