The Blue Eyes
Chapter 40 - BEING KIDNAPPED
"Am I kidnapping you, Blue?" A tall man asked a girl sitting next to him.
A simple wooden boat sailed across the vast ocean. The orange rays of the sun were reflected by the calm seawater. It was like a farewell gift from the sun that was starting to set on the western horizon. The moon, which was entering its Waning Gibbous phase, would replace the sun soon.
Three figures were boarding the simple wooden boat. Two men and a girl. It had probably only been ten minutes since the boat had left the mainland, and now the manual vehicle was sailing quietly in the ocean.
The waves were not too high in the ocean, in contrast to the coastal areas where the waves rose before breaking to hit the land. The atmosphere was calm and serene, but it didn't match with the messy feelings inside the girl's heart.
She was Blue, the beautiful blue-eyed girl who had been silent all the time. Her small body was wrapped in a thick red jacket, and her big backpack was lying at her feet. Blue wasn't seasick, but she had chosen to be mute since hours ago.
Besides the young girl, there were also Jack and a local fisherman who was in charge of driving the boat. Their destination was a remote island that was far from the mainland. It was rare for humans to go there, and Jack even had to spend a little more to persuade the fisherman to be willing to take them both to the island.
Before Blue and Jack boarded the boat, the two of them first drove the car to reach the coastal area where they got the boat earlier. For more than 4 hours, Jack drove the car before they arrived at the coast. After they reached an agreement with the fisherman, they finally left the coast in a wooden boat.
The man who asked a question earlier was Jack. It had been more than 4 hours that Blue had spent time with him, but the girl still kept her mouth tight. Even when he asked her, she would only answer non-verbally with a nod or a head shake.
The two of them were currently sitting side by side on the boat, but Blue acted like he was transparent. At first, Jack was patient with it, but after a while, he lost his temper because it seemed like he was traveling with a statue.
The werewolf sighed, then grabbed a plastic bag next to his feet. He took a loaf of bread and handed it to Blue. "Eat it. You refused to eat since earlier. You only drink water, and that's not enough to fill you up. We have a long way to go," said the man with the tattoo on his right arm.
But, Blue just glared at the bread in Jack's hand with no intention of accepting it. That felt like an insult for Jack. The man angrily threw the bread into the middle of the ocean, causing a loud thud and even formed a high water splash in the area. The fisherman, who didn't know anything, was shocked by the scene that happened so fast.
"Hey, kid. I don't understand your way of thinking," Jack then said irritatedly. "You suddenly called me this morning. You said that you had made up your mind and asked me to take you out of town. At noon, I picked you up at your apartment to comply with your wishes. Now we are here according to what you expected, but you act like I was kidnapping you!"
Blue was still silent even though Jack had just scolded her quite harshly. The girl didn't even look at him. It surely frustrated the werewolf.
"Blue, tell me honestly, do you regret your decision?" Jack asked while gritting his teeth.
This time, Jack's question succeeded in winning Blue's attention.
The girl's blue eyes stared gloomily at Jack. She seemed to be thinking hard for a moment, then asked back, "Did I make a wrong decision?"
Jack raised an eyebrow at the question. "Hey, kid. Aren't you wrong to ask me that?" He asked with a strange laugh.
Blue looked away from Jack and didn't answer the question.
Finally, Jack's expression turned solemn as he said, "You made the right decision, Blue. You are meant to do this. You are just returning to where you should be."
"Is that true?" Blue asked again without facing the other person. "But, I left Brother Kevin," she added after asking.
"Wasn't Kevin the reason you left? Aren't you mad at him because he always stands up for Kris and always blames you? Don't tell me that you were just emotional and now want to get back to him. Are you guys dating or what?"
Blue fell silent. It was true what Jack said. This morning, Blue called Jack to tell the man that she had made up her mind. She said that she wanted Jack to take her away because she didn't want to see Kevin again.
Kevin was defending Kris again yesterday, and she was upset because of that. Blue was disappointed because Kevin chose Kris over her until the end.
"Brother Kevin is like my biological brother," Blue finally answered.
"You don't harbor feelings for him? Based on my observations so far, it seems like you are very dependent on him and don't want to lose him. I think your attitude is more than that of a younger sibling to her brother. You are very possessive of him."
Jack's words seemed able to grab Blue's interest again. The girl turned back to Jack and asked, "You think like that? Do you think I'm too possessive of him?" Without hesitation, Jack nodded in response, and Blue asked again, "Do you think I made him feel uncomfortable?"
Jack didn't answer right away. Instead, he frowned as if he was thinking of the right answer for the girl.
"Maybe he is uncomfortable," Jack finally answered. "Didn't you stick to him for nearly seventeen years? And, have you ever seen Kevin in a relationship with anyone during that time? Maybe all this time, Kevin saw you as a parasite that prevented him from having a relationship with someone. Maybe he saw you as a burden all this time."
The words seemed to hit Blue's heart quite badly. The girl froze for a moment, then her head hung limply. She remembered the times when she was very close to Kevin. That was when the two of them were inseparable.
Even on holidays when Kevin should use the day for rest or dating, Kevin instead visited Blue and to keep her company. Kevin had never dated, he had never been close to anyone, and it was all because of Blue.
"He must hate me," Blue whispered bitterly.
Jack beside her smirked a little, then chimed in, "Luckily you caught yourself quickly. If you stay beside him and burden him any further, he will surely hate you even more."
Blue's thin hands were clenched into her lap. The night began to greet her, cold air began to creep between the fabric she was wearing. And, the chilliness of the night froze her heart. It was stupid because only now did she realize it all. For seventeen years, she had been too naive.
'Maybe that's why Brother Kevin easily agreed when Kris wanted to adopt me. Brother Kevin must have wanted to get out of his responsibility, so he forced me to accept Kris's offer,' Blue thought wistfully.
Stupid, she just realized that when it was so obvious from the start.
Blue finally sighed and raised her head again. She stared blankly at the vast expanse of sea, then asked again, "Where are we going?"
"Oh, you finally asked about our destination? After more than 4 hours we left, only now do you ask that?"
Jack couldn't help but laugh at Blue's question. During the 4 hours they left, Blue didn't seem to care where they were going. The girl completely locked her lips and did not ask anything. Only now did Jack hear the girl ask with a curious expression.
"We are going to an island, and you don't need to be afraid. Our people are waiting for you there, and they will surely treat you well."
Blue still couldn't believe what she was doing. She finally chose to trust Jack and left to fulfill her destiny. Some time ago, he called Kevin stupid for trusting Kris too easily, but now she felt even more stupid because she easily trusted Jack.
'Did I make the right decision?'
Blue was still reluctant to leave her comfortable life since she was adopted and given complete facilities by Kris. She thought she could finally live a normal life and be able to focus on achieving her goals, but now she had chosen to leave it all.
But, perhaps she made the right decision. She realized that her dream was a ridiculous thing. Wasn't it funny if a werewolf had the dream of becoming a scientist who specializes in researching werewolves? That was the most laughable joke ever.
"Hey, Blue. You haven't answered my one question," Jack suddenly called again, making Blue turn to him, and the man continued, "Are you sure that you don't harbor feelings for Kevin?"
