The Blue Eyes
Chapter 45 - LOOKING FOR BLUE
Kris drove his red car at high speed, cutting through the busy streets this afternoon. A white t-shirt and black leather jacket wrapped around his muscular body, and a pair of sunglasses perched over his Greek nose.
Kevin was sitting quietly next to him. His appearance was a hundred and eighty degrees different from Kris. The young scientist looked so humble in the white t-shirt and grey cardigan that he had been wearing since this morning.
Kris had asked him to change his clothes, but Kevin refused. The only thing he did was remove the bandages because the wound on his head had miraculously healed without leaving a trace. The oddity certainly made the scientist wonder in his heart.
The two men were on their way to find Blue. Kris said that he seemed to know where Blue was, so he decided to go straight to that place. At first, he didn't want to bring Kevin along knowing that it was too dangerous, but the latter insisted on joining. He even threatened that he wouldn't forgive Kris forever if the werewolf didn't want to bring him.
Kris certainly remembered how cold Kevin's attitude was to him after he found out about his lies. Luckily, the raven-haired man was willing to give him a second chance and was willing to postpone his confrontation. That was certainly very beneficial for Kris, even though he knew that one day, he still had to explain everything to Kevin.
"Do you really know where Jack took Blue?" Kevin finally broke the silence.
They had been traveling together for an hour, but only now did Kevin want to talk to Kris.
"Oh, I thought you would keep quiet until we find Blue," Kris replied as he tried to suppress his smile.
"You want me to keep quiet until we find Blue?" The scientist asked again as he gave the werewolf a piercing gaze.
Kris panicked when he heard the question. "You can't do that! I can't stand seeing you keep quiet like that," he replied in a hurry.
Kevin turned to Kris who was driving on his left, then he asked again, "If you really couldn't stand it, why didn't you talk to me earlier?"
"Because I wanted to give you time to be alone," Kris replied softly. "Your face was so messed up when you arrived at the orphanage earlier. Even though I don't know what you just went through, but I know that your condition isn't okay."
Those words made Kevin lower his head. It seemed like he was indeed like a transparent test tube to Kris's eyes. Even though he didn't tell the story, Kris could always guess what his mood was.
"I just found out a fact about werewolves," Kevin finally responded as he directed his eyes out of the window.
They had now left the city, and the road would lead them to the coastal area.
"What facts have you found about werewolves?" Kris asked.
Kevin didn't answer right away. His eyes darted at the objects that were passing quickly outside the car window. The objects appeared to be moving backwards, when in fact, it was the car that was moving forward.
Sometimes, humans were like that too. Sometimes, they were wrong when they saw something. Sometimes, they had to look from a broader perspective so as not to be easily deceived by such illusions. The world was indeed full of mystery.
A few minutes passed, and the scientist sighed before answering, "I know that werewolves were actually created by humans."
The answer made Kris silently gasp. Luckily, he still managed the car well. "How do you know about that?" He then asked.
"From my mother's journal," Kevin replied. "I managed to open up my mother's cloud storage and found the journal there."
Kris's grip on the steering wheel unconsciously grew stronger. His expression, which was relaxed few seconds ago, now looked tense. "Then, what other information did you find in your mother's journal?" He asked again, trying to look normal as much as he can.
Kevin turned back to Kris, and instead of answering, the genius scientist asked back, "Are you sure you don't know anything about that, Kris?"
Kris's expression grew cloudy after hearing Kevin's question. It looked like he couldn't keep a secret forever. It looked like Kevin managed to reveal everything without having to wait for an explanation from Kris.
"Kevin," Kris called the young man beside him. "You know that I never had bad intentions for you, right?"
"You don't have bad intentions, but you keep lying to me?" The shorter man asked sarcastically. "Ah, what do you call that kind of lie? I think people call it a 'white lie.' Am I right, Kris?"
Kris felt bad hearing the sarcasm. Even though he had good intentions, but he knew that he had hurt the scientist's feelings.
"Kris," this time, it was Kevin who called Kris. "Who is Blue?" He then asked.
The question cornered Kris even more.
"Since yesterday you firmly believed that Blue was kidnapped by the werewolves, even explaining a theory about their powers. But, I have been wondering since yesterday. Who exactly is Blue that she was being targeted by werewolves? Tell me honestly, Kris. Didn't you also target Blue from the start?"
Kris was completely cornered with no way out this time. The werewolf then pulled over his car and stopped it at the side of the highway. He didn't want them to be involved in another accident that might get Kevin injured again.
"Are you ready to find out about Blue's true identity?" Kris asked. He had unbuckled his seat belt and had fully turned his body towards Kevin. He also had taken of his sunglasses and put them on the dasboard.
The scientist also unfastened his seat belt and turned his body towards the werewolf. Without a doubt, the raven-haired man nodded his head.
Seeing the nonverbal answer, Kris could only sigh in resignation. Perhaps it was the time to tell Kevin everything.
"You are right. The werewolves targeted Blue from the start, and I was also after Blue from the start," Kris started the narrative. "Blue is the child in the werewolves' prophecy. The prophecy said that a blue-eyed girl would become werewolves leader to conquer mankind."
Kris's brief explanation made Kevin widen his eyes. "Is the child in the prophecy really Blue? Aren't there many people in this world who have blue eyes? Couldn't it be Blue, right?" He asked in panicked.
"I have seen with my own eyes that Blue is the one," Kris explained. "Do you remember when Blue suddenly refused to see you and her attitude changed a few months ago? At that time, she had just gained the power that had been buried in her body for a long time. According to the prophecy, the power will only fully emerge when Blue turns 17. The power will emerge as time goes by towards that day."
Kevin was stunned to hear that explanation. "So, Blue refused to meet me because she was shocked by the appearance of her power?" He asked again.
Kris nodded as he replied, "The things were hard to imagine. Blue's power appeared uncontrollably, and she killed five thugs at once. I couldn't do anything because Blue was already controlled by the power. Blue was in shock and refused to meet you because she felt so guilty."
It was undeniable that Kevin's body went numb when he heard Kris's explanation. Kris was right. It would be hard for Kevin to accept the reality. That was why he kept avoiding the topic and trying hard to hide the fact from Kevin.
"At that time, Blue's classmate named Rachel became the only witness who saw Blue's actions. I had to send her and her family overseas so they wouldn't divulge Blue's secrets. I even bribed them with lots of money to keep them quiet. I don't want Blue to get into trouble because of that."
Kris was telling the truth. He had sent Rachel and her family overseas to protect Blue. Back then, Rachel just fainted, and she was very shocked when she woke up. Kris didn't have the power to erase human's memory, so he didn't have any other choice than to send her and her family abroad.
Kris knew that he was also in the wrong for letting Blue killed the five thugs, but he really didn't have the power to control Blue back then. He was a bit late back then, so he couldn't prevent Blue from doing the evil deeds. He also felt guilty for that.
Kevin turned pale, and he didn't say anything. Kris carefully observed the other man because he was worried about the scientist's condition. He knew that Kevin had been experiencing a lot of unexpected events lately, and that might affect his mental state.
The werewolf was even more worried when his eyes caught Kevin's eyes widen all of a sudden.
"Kevin, are you okay? Your face looks pale, we'd better stop talking about all this now."
Kevin looked at Kris who was staring at him with a look full of concern. Ignoring the werewolf's worry, the scientist asked, "What is Blue's relation with the mega-project coded BLUE10122021?"
