Ch19 - Eggless Hero

Do you really think Sparta will be less awesome without his eggie? Well, you thought wrong!

Not long after they got home, Sparta began to get restless. He dragged his legs around and as always, attempted to jump to the high ground. Unfortunately, he did not put enough strength in his hind legs and flopped to the ground each time. Unwilling to give up, he would repeat. This irritated his wound as he made small scratches on the carpet as well as stepped on his own paws a few times. It took many crashing failures before he stopped. His attention then focused on tearing off the white pet cone around his neck. From trying to squeeze his head out of it and kicking the cone with his hind legs, he did all sorts of crazy big movements, as if he was making them out of anger. 

The injured cat was very defensive and eager to return to his familiar state to calm his uneasy mood, showing signs of aggression. Xin Qin anxiously stayed beside him. He could do nothing but try to surround the Dragon Li cat in his arms, creating a safe and enclosed environment for the cat. 

After a pause, Sparta started to kick the pet cone again, but failed. When Xin Qin bought the cone, he had repeatedly measured to ensure he selected one with the most appropriate size which would not come off easily. The Dragon Li finally used up all his strength after a long struggle and laid down, exhaling heavily. Xin Qin came over and squatted down, not daring to stay too close but still quietly accompanied the Dragon Li cat. 

After a while, Sparta’s attention shifted to the stairs and began to climb them. Xin Qin panicked and subconsciously stretched out his hand, trying to stop the cat. What he was faced with was a fierce scratch from the Dragon Li cat, and those marks immediately drew blood. This was the first time Sparta had scratched Xin Qin. The cat usually hid his claws carefully in his paw pad, even when playing games. Xin Qin ignored his own injury and escorted the cat upstairs.  

The Dragon Li cat quickly moved his head and sniffed, distinguishing the scent in the air with his nose like a kitten leaving their nest for the first time, and instinctively trying to find the place he felt the safest at. He chose his human’s bedroom in the end. Sparta was still dizzy as he acted only on instinct. He felt awful, not from the pain as it was dull, like a cat beating his head through cotton. He felt hot and dry, very much at a loss, and his four limbs were not listening to him.

He stumbled into the bedroom and instinctively wanted to go to the place where he would feel the most comfort and warmth, but he did not have the strength to jump up the bed at all. His eyes were also in a daze and could not focus, which meant he could not find a foothold accurately. So he picked the next best thing to find security—hiding under the bed, which was both dark and a tight-space. 

Xin Qin watched the Dragon Li cat crawl under the bed. Without much thought, he crouched down and followed the cat as he did not want to leave the cat hidden alone. Although he usually cleans his room, he does not clean hidden places such as under the bed. It was not until he wriggled under the bed that he found this space was filled with dust bunnies. He did not watch his breathing so he accidentally inhaled too deeply and was coughing from choking on the dust for a long time. The Dragon Li cat looked nervously in his direction. A pair of green eyes glowing from the refraction of weak light. Xin Qin controlled his coughing before quietly staying by Sparta’s side, speaking softly from time to time.

The man and the cat stayed in the dark for an unknown amount of time. Once Xin Qin felt Sparta began to relax, he gingerly reached out and caressed Sparta. What he touched was probably one of the Dragon Li cat’s paws as the cat quickly retracted his limb in an instant. Xin Qin was not discouraged at all. He crawled deeper and continued to make contact with Sparta. After repeating this several times, the Dragon Li cat finally stopped rejecting his touch. He gently held the cat’s small paw, feeling a tight feeling in his heart and a sour sensation at his nose.

Finally, once dawn arrived, Sparta gradually returned to his original state and began to cling to Xin Qin. The Dragon Li cat practically inhaled his food, he was probably really hungry. Once he was done, he did not forget to lick his plate. After the plate was clean, he licked his lips and gazed up at Xin Qin, as if he had been wronged by getting so little. Xin Qin hardened his heart as he dared not to give the cat too much and put away the plate. After his meal, the Dragon Li cat slowly wandered around the living room, found a corner and curled up into a fluff to catch some sleep. Xin Qin observed him, after confirming that the Dragon Li cat was fine, he went to take a combat shower.

When Sparta woke up, he had completely recovered his energy. He began to bounce around again, moving very nimbly. Once Xin Qin finished, the cat dashed towards him and started meowing incoherently, sounding as though  he was chirping out the English alphabet ‘L’ which was ridiculous. Xin Qin assumed the cat might be complaining about yesterday’s terrible experience to himself. He put the cat into his arms, regretfully and gently stroked the cat. 

Miwu, my eggie hurt a little. Those humans were so weird yesterday. Why did you leave me there alone? Sparta tried to nestle his head against the human’s chest, but he was stopped by this strange thing around his neck. He could only lower his head and complain stiffly. After a long venting session, he suddenly remembered that he seemed to have been taken by the man in white. At that time, Miwu could not catch up. Hmph! So irritating, he better stay clear of my sight! Stupid crow! Stupid mouse! Sparta thought bitterly and scolded the human doctor with all the awful words he knew. He felt better after pouring out his anger. Looking back up again, he sighed at his human. Miwu is definitely too thin. I wonder if other humans bully him. Ah, this is worrying. Miwu, why are you not saying anything? Are you not happy? No need to worry because I am all right. Don’t be scared. I will definitely do better next time. I will protect you and will not let others take you away. Meow, meow. My eggie feels strange. I want to lick it so badly. What is this thing around my neck?! So annoying!

Sparta had not expected he’d be wearing this annoying thing for a whole week. Several times during this period, he succeeded in freeing his neck from the thing, but Miwu caught him and put the strange thing around his neck again. Miwu was being so annoying, Meow. However, the Dragon Li cat still forgave his Miwu at the end. Miwu did open the best can in the world for him to eat after all. It was not worth keeping these occasional small mistakes in his heart.  

What Sparta did not know was that his photos and videos of his time acting cute with the plastic cone had become very popular.

Sparta’s head moved up and down, following the human’s hand movement. He curled his tail, thinking that his human wanted to play games with him. Miwu! He directly pounced forward with his forearms out. 

Xin Qin easily raised his hand and caught the Dragon Li cat, then rolled the cat over. As soon as the cat was rolled over, he revealed his fluffy belly. Sparta was very generous as his hind legs were open, not at all shy from Xin Qin looking at his lower part. After checking Sparta’s wound, Xin Qin once again was very thankful for the cat’s fast recovery. The wound had healed nicely and scabbed. The cat’s sack looked smaller, leaving just the skin. Fortunately, the shape remained good.  

He leaned down and kissed the Dragon Li cat’s big head through his mask. “You are great.” Then he reached out and untied Sparta’s cone. 

Eh? Sparta rolled over and sat up. I am free! He rushed to the corner, immediately laid on his side and began to lick his fur. Paws, lick, lick. Arm, lick, lick. Belly, lick, lick. Eggie, lick, lick. Eggie…Miwu, there seems to be something strange with my eggie, oh well, more licking. 

What a blissful thing it was for the cat to be able to lick his fur. 

Apart from bringing a certain psychological trauma to Sparta at the moment, neutering did not leave any sequelae on his healthy body.
