The CEO's Little Miss

Chapter 21:It's Getting Cold

I groan heavily and roll on my side. With a few slow blinks, my vision clears. Is this... a living room? I attempt to get up, only to fall to the floor.

"How are you feeling?" a voice asks calmly.

Sitting up slowly, I make eye contact with a pleasant looking woman, lithe with hazel eyes and blond hair. She looks like a fairy.

"I apologize for my idiot husband! He thought you were suicidal and decided that the best course of action was knocking you out. Marines..." The woman scoffed at the end.

"What?" My mind slowly begins to process the information.

A man walks out from a hallway on my right, hair cropped shortly with a muscled build. His head hangs low, then he raises it.

"I'm very sorry miss. You scared me for a moment and I didn't know what to do. It's a habit." He stares at me guiltily.

"It's... okay? How long have I been out?" I stand up and sit down on the couch I fell off of moments ago.

"Well, a brachial stun is only supposed to last 7 seconds, but you seemed to black out from panic. It's been about two hours." The man slowly explained.

"I suppose that makes sense. Thank you for your good intentions." All I can do is shrug. He didn't intend to hurt me, so I can't be mad.

"Anyhow mademoiselle, I hope you can forgive him. I've prepared some soup in case you're hungry. There's some dry clothes in my room if you'd like." The woman serenely spoke with a pleasant smile.

"Thank you!"

After changing and eating, I decided to help Claire do the dishes. She refused at fist, but I insisted.

"I think your relationship is pretty sweet." I smile at the woman beside me when she passes a bowl to dry.

"Really? Half the time he makes me mad." While she stated this, Claire looked down and smiled softly.

I begin giggling. There really are relationships of all different kinds. It almost seems to give a sense of security.

If this is what love is like, I could give it a chance. My hands stop at this thought.

"Jennifer? Pardon me, but it seems like you have something, or someone, on your mind." Claire observes my face for a second.

"Yes, I suppose so." I try to hide my painful expression.

"Is that person waiting for you?" She questions in a nonintrusive manner.

"He is. I haven't made up my mind though. Is it worth it?" I tug at the hem of my shirt.

"Are you asking for confirmation or permission?" Claire says in a stronger voice.

Is that it? This whole time, was I trying to get in the way of my own happiness? My eyes widen.

"Well then, you need to hurry! I have an umbrella and coat, I'll draw you a map, so get going!" Her radiant smile brings my spirit up.

"Okay!"
