#237 - Takeaway
Looking at the implementation schedule, it's set for tomorrow. It seems S.H.I.E.L.D. is afraid of complications and wants to resolve Nitro as soon as possible. After all, an unstable bomb just sitting in a downtown area like that would make anyone nervous.
Yang Le stroked his chin, stopped Gwen, who had just finished packing her luggage and was about to pack his, and said he was going to take care of a small matter.
"Need any help?" Gwen asked.
"No need." Yang Le got up, picked a jacket from the pile of clothes Gwen had, and put it on. "It's just a small matter. I'll be back in about half an hour. I'll grab some late-night snacks while I'm out."
"I didn't say anything about wanting late-night snacks," Gwen protested with a frown.
"Then it's just that I want some," Yang Le said with a smile, activated his little broken watch, transformed into XLR8, and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Gwen sighed, put the clothes aside, and muttered, "If you're going to transform anyway, why bother wearing a jacket? The clothes I just organized are all messed up now."
Before Gwen could finish complaining, Yang Le had already arrived at his destination: an ordinary detached house. It looked unremarkable, and no one would suspect that it housed a gathering of supervillains.
Turning into a blue whirlwind, Yang Le arrived at the front door, cleared his throat, and rang the doorbell.
"Hello, your pizza is here!"
Yang Le was just trying to imitate a scene from a movie, but to his surprise, there was a response from inside.
"Coming, are pizzas delivered this fast nowadays?" a rough voice said, followed by a series of footsteps.
Then a U.S. dollar bill was slipped out from under the door, apparently someone was pushing money through from the other side.
"Just leave the pizza at the door," the rough voice said again.
Yang Le was stunned, unsure if it was because they really ordered a pizza or because the person was a villain but still honestly paying.
The person on the other side of the door, seeing that Yang Le didn't say anything but also didn't take the money, continued, "Want a tip? Alright, alright."
Then another dollar bill was pushed out from under the door.
"What? Think the money's not enough?" the man's voice became angry. "I'm telling you, don't be ungrateful."
Then the door was opened, and a man in high-tech armor appeared before him. However, the man was also stunned after opening the door.
Although the man was wearing a mask, revealing only his mouth, Yang Le could still see the change in his expression, from anger to bewilderment, in just one second.
Yang Le also recognized the man: Overdrive. He didn't have any special abilities, relying on the high-tech combat suit he wore. This armor not only provided Overdrive with all-around enhancements but also allowed him to move at extremely high speeds. Yang Le didn't remember the exact speed, only that it didn't exceed the speed of sound.
"What are you?" Overdrive reacted and loudly questioned Yang Le, also to alert his companions in the room.
Sure enough, after Overdrive shouted, another man walked out of the house. The man was wearing a purple and black suit, with long white hair. Yang Le recognized him at a glance: this was his target, Nitro.
"What's wrong, Overdrive?" Nitro asked. Because Overdrive's armored form was so large, and XLR8 was a relatively small alien hero, he didn't see Yang Le right away.
"We might have a problem," Overdrive said, reaching out his hand towards Yang Le, preparing to grab the alien in front of him.
However, when Overdrive's hand reached Yang Le, it passed right through without any resistance. Overdrive was shocked. By the time Yang Le disappeared, he realized that what he had seen was just an afterimage.
"What exactly is happening?" Nitro was still confused. He still didn't know what was going on.
"Shut up, Nitro!" Overdrive said through gritted teeth. He felt like he had been played. Overdrive now just wanted to find Yang Le and torture him.
Nitro wasn't someone who would take things lying down. Faced with Overdrive's scolding, he didn't think he could just let it go. Villains are like that: it's either you die or I live. It's impossible to back down easily.
But just as Nitro was about to retort, a sharp voice rang out from behind him.
"I think he might be looking for me."
Overdrive and Nitro turned around and saw Yang Le, transformed into XLR8, standing behind them, waving at them.
The moment he saw Yang Le, a question arose in Overdrive's mind: how did he get in?
"Curious how I got in?" Yang Le pointed to the wall. "I took a shortcut."
That's right, Yang Le used the method of phasing through walls. This technique wasn't used much by speedsters in Marvel but was a specialty of those in DC, possibly because they weren't as fast as the DC speedsters.
This technique involves vibrating one's molecules at an extremely high speed, then resonating with the contacted obstacle at the same frequency. After that, the speedster can pass through the gaps in the object, thereby achieving the effect of phasing through walls.
Generally speaking, even XLR8 after adulthood would find it difficult to do this, but ever since transforming into Ultimate XLR8, Yang Le seemed to have grasped something mysterious and profound. He couldn't explain it, but he was indeed much faster than before, and he could even phase through walls.
"Get out of the way!" Overdrive shoved Nitro aside, raised his right arm, and a two-finger-thick, forearm-length short sword popped out from his arm armor. The cold gleam showed that it was no ordinary weapon.
Overdrive raised his hand and swung at Yang Le. Yang Le didn't dare to take this hit head-on. He knew that Overdrive's short sword was made of Adamantium. Not to mention XLR8's small body, even if he transformed into Way Big, Yang Le wouldn't dare to take it head-on.
But although Overdrive had a formidable weapon, it was meaningless if he couldn't hit. In Yang Le's eyes, Overdrive's speed was too slow. Yang Le felt like he was about to fall asleep before Overdrive's sword finally reached him.
Yang Le simply tilted his body slightly, then stuck out a foot. Overdrive, tripped by Yang Le, flew out and crashed into a lot of furniture.
At this time, the other villains, who had long heard Overdrive's shouts, finally rushed over, only to see the scene of Overdrive falling.
"What happened?" a woman with two ornate swords hanging from her waist asked.
"Looks like someone came looking for trouble!" said a man wearing a green suit with lightning patterns.
Yang Le also recognized the identities of the two at a glance: Killer Frost and Electro.
Killer Frost didn't attract Yang Le's attention, but Electro did. This guy played with electricity, and he knew that 80% of the aliens in the Omnitrix were afraid of electricity, so he couldn't help but pay attention.
