#285 - Independence Day and Memory
“I will.” Batman replied to Hal blandly, then looked at Barry and asked.
“Is that feeling of being chased always there?”
“Not always.” Barry shook his head. “I only feel it when I run and reach a certain speed. I tried to push against that feeling. I accelerated to my usual limit, but I still couldn't shake it off.”
“What about Wally?” Batman continued to press. “Does he feel it too?”
“I mentioned it to him, but he doesn't feel anything like that.” Barry sighed. “He even thought he was chasing me too closely and putting me under pressure. Wally was happy about that for days.”
“Did you ask Wally to follow you? To see what exactly is sticking to your back?” Wonder Woman asked.
“Uh.” Barry scratched his head. “Wally is indeed very talented, but he is still too young.”
Hal laughed and said, “Let me translate. Wally can't keep up with our Flash. Relax, Barry, Wally isn't here. You can just say it directly.”
Barry didn't say anything, but it was clear from his expression that that was what he meant.
Batman held his chin, wondering what he was thinking. The Watchtower's hall was silent, everyone waiting for the Justice League's brain to give an answer.
“I suspect there's a problem with the Speed Force.” Batman gave his answer.
“You mean something unclean has entered the Speed Force?” Barry frowned. “If that's the case, then the trouble is much more serious than I thought.”
“And obviously, whatever that thing is, its target is only you.” Batman turned off the holographic projection. “It's coming for you, Barry.”
Hal put his hands behind his head and said casually, “Looks like someone is in big trouble. Need my help?”
Faced with his friend's ridicule, Barry simply replied with one sentence.
“Take care of your own emotional problems first.”
“Hey!”
“Let's put this matter aside for now.” Batman interrupted the two's argument. “We still know too little information. We can only take it one step at a time. Superman.”
“I'm listening.” Superman responded.
Batman instructed, “Pay more attention to Flash's condition. You're the only one in the entire Justice League who can get to him in time when he's in danger.”
“I will.” Superman nodded to show he understood.
“Sounds like a little kid with a tracking device.” Hal, the annoying friend, came to ridicule him at the first moment. “Looks like you need to participate in Independence Day too.”
Faced with Hal's ridicule, Barry didn't immediately retort because he heard a term he hadn't heard before.
“What's Independence Day?” Barry asked curiously. “Is it some special holiday I don't know about? Did some alien planet become independent?”
After Barry finished speaking, he looked at Martian Manhunter, who hadn't said a word, expecting to get an answer from him. After all, Martians are also aliens, and their news must be better than his as an Earthling, completely ignoring the space cop (laughing) sitting next to him.
“If you weren't distracted, you would also know about this special holiday.” Batman cast an disapproving glance again. Flash immediately looked like a wilted eggplant, dejected.
“Sorry.”
“Independence Day is a holiday set up for the sidekicks around us.” Aquaman came out to smooth things over. “You can feel it too, right Barry? The little guy around you has been a little restless lately.”
“Really?” Barry scratched his head. He was almost driven crazy by the thing chasing him recently, and he didn't even pay attention to Wally's emotions.
“Sigh~” Aquaman couldn't help but facepalm, suddenly feeling sad for Wally having such an elder. Even he could feel his junior's little thoughts.
“In short, Independence Day is a day when sidekick heroes can act independently. On this day, we can't point fingers at their actions, and they are completely in charge of themselves. Of course, we still have to clean up their messes, but we have to clean up carefully so they don't find out.”
After listening to Aquaman's explanation, Flash immediately understood. Isn't it just changing from an overt nanny to a covert nanny? Flash is most familiar with this.
“That's pretty much what it means.” Batman nodded. “But this is just a suggestion for now. There is still an uncertain factor on Flash's side, so I suggest that Independence Day be put on hold temporarily. We can't let them act without authorization in this situation. It's too dangerous.”
“I second that.” “Agreed.”
Superman was the first to speak in agreement, Wonder Woman followed closely, and the others also agreed with Batman's proposal. Compared with the impending crisis, the children's complaints were undoubtedly much lighter, and besides, this was also for their own good.
The meeting came to an end, and Flash's thoughts drifted again. He once again thought of the thing chasing him. What exactly was that thing?
“Huff!”
In the early morning, Yang Le was awakened by a nightmare again. Familiar swear words blurted out again, making him want to throw the alarm clock on the bedside to the ground, but it was useless anyway, after all, he had always been awakened by nightmares, even more punctual than the alarm clock.
The most ⊥ new ⊥ small ⊥ said ⊥ in ⊥ six ⊥ 9 ⊥⊥ book ⊥⊥ bar ⊥⊥ first ⊥ hair!
But the pressure of life still made him put down the alarm clock in his hand. It would be good even if he didn't have to take it to the second-hand market to buy it. It would be a waste of resources to just smash it like this.
Silently winding the alarm clock, Yang Le walked out of the bedroom in his pajamas. He wasn't on the schedule today, so he didn't have to rush like he did yesterday morning.
Taking out a cold slice of bread and putting it in the toaster, Yang Le turned around and realized that his jam was gone. It seemed that he could only eat bread slices dry today.
Brewing a cup of instant coffee, Yang Le, pretending to be an upper-class person, turned on his big-headed TV. This was something he had scavenged from the junkyard. Many of the furniture in his house were scavenged. After his repairs, they could barely be used.
Although Yang Le didn't know why he could fix these things, he was able to live a good life with this skill. By helping the neighbors repair things and with the salary from the shop, he was able to chat with the psychologist for an hour.
However, with so many electrical appliances in the house, the power consumption also increased. Recently, Yang Le was thinking about getting some electricity from somewhere else to use. Life, you know, save where you can.
Aimlessly glancing at the TV that served as background noise, the thin walls made him dare not turn up the volume at all, otherwise people on the same floor would come to him for trouble, after all, it was still too early.
Originally just an aimless glance, but Yang Le's eyes froze. The emergency news being broadcast on TV was that a supervillain-led crime had broken out in Central City. Flash and Kid Flash had arrived at the scene and were working on it, but it looked like they were in some trouble.
Without hesitation, Yang Le ignored the bread slices popping out of the toaster, hurriedly put on his clothes and ran out of the house. As for why, he didn't know, but...
He saw something. Although it was less than a frame, he was absolutely sure he wasn't mistaken. Yang Le saw a blue-black shadow, and that shadow made his brain ache faintly.
“Maybe my memories can be recovered.” Yang Le muttered to himself, using a paper clip he carried with him to pick the lock of Old Huang's bicycle, got on the bicycle and pedaled hard towards the scene of the crime.
The main story is not over yet. I see that some people don't seem to like mutants. It just so happens that someone wants to see DC, so I'm writing to change the taste. If there are no accidents, the main story and side stories will be updated alternately, unless I really want to write about a certain universe, in which case there may be a phenomenon where one universe is updated continuously, such as the DC I just wrote. By the way, the side stories and the main story are basically independent of each other. The side stories may mention the main story, but the main story will not mention the side stories. Thank you everyone for liking it.
