#381 - Paradise Island
Vanished without a trace?
Yang Le, looking puzzled, asked, "Why are you so sure the Queen is dead then?"
Honestly, if Yang Le didn't know Wonder Woman's character, he would have thought she was a schemer who usurped the throne and was now putting on an act in front of him. With no body and no sign of life, how could they jump to such a conclusion?
"The guards saw my mother turn into a stone statue in front of them and then be shattered," Wonder Woman said in anguish.
"I see," Yang Le nodded. "So, the attacker first targeted the Queen, and after killing her, injured the Queen's guards."
"Exactly, I think they're provoking us," Wonder Woman said through gritted teeth. "Deliberately leaving clues, just like Batman and his rogues gallery."
"You've hit the nail on the head," Yang Le snapped his fingers. "Then why don't you go to the world's greatest detective? If Batman takes the case, he'll find the culprit quickly."
"Before coming to you, I went to Batman first," Wonder Woman rolled her eyes, as if to say, 'Do you think I didn't think of that?'
"He's still unconscious, and his injuries aren't light. I can't let him help me in that condition."
Seeing Yang Le's thoughts, Wonder Woman continued, "As for the others in the Justice League, most are either injured or busy cleaning up the mess. After thinking it over, you're the only one with the free time to help me."
Yang Le, labeled as idle, wasn't annoyed. After all, that was the reality. Superheroes have dual identities, and after the Beast incident, they had things to do not only as superheroes but also as ordinary people.
Only Yang Le was special, with almost no ties in this universe, which made him the 'idle person' in Wonder Woman's eyes.
"You want me to help you find the killer?" Yang Le asked.
Wonder Woman nodded and said, "Yes, I want you to help me find the murderer who killed my mother. I want to personally retrieve my mother's remains. She shouldn't be lost out there; Paradise Island is where she should rest in peace."
"Of course, I won't let you help for nothing," Wonder Woman added quickly. "Whether you find them or not, I'll owe you a favor, and I'll keep the N metal a secret."
Hearing Wonder Woman say this, Yang Le immediately extended his right hand and said, "Although I don't understand what you're talking about, I don't think I have any reason to refuse a comrade's request."
Wonder Woman grasped Yang Le's outstretched right hand, stood up, and looked at Yang Le gratefully.
"Thank you."
"So, when shall we depart?" Yang Le asked while feeling the softness of her hand.
"Although I want to say the sooner the better, it's really too late now," Wonder Woman concealed the anxiety in her eyes. "Let's leave tomorrow morning. You're different from me; your main body is just an ordinary person. After the morning's work, staying up late might be too much for you."
There was also an unspoken sentence that Yang Le understood. If Queen Hippolyta were still alive, they would have to race against time, but now that she was likely dead, rushing would be meaningless, but that was all based on the premise that the Queen was dead.
"That won't be necessary," Yang Le waved his hand. "Time waits for no one. Since the other party can use tricks to deceive the guards outside the palace, there's no reason they can't deceive a close guard. So, there's still a possibility that the Queen is alive. We should speed up and go to the scene of the crime now to take a look."
"Thank you," Wonder Woman looked at Yang Le gratefully and, without further ado, grabbed Yang Le and flew up.
Despite Wonder Woman not being particularly highlighted for her speed, she is actually ranked highly in DC Comics' speed rankings, only behind speedsters and Superman.
If only speed is considered, Yang Le in his Asgardian state would definitely be completely outmatched. Probably only when the entire planet is plunged into war, strengthening his War God persona, could he catch up with Wonder Woman.
That's also why, even though Yang Le could fly himself, he let Wonder Woman carry him, efficient and effortless, why not?
In the blink of an eye, Yang Le was taken by Wonder Woman to an endless sea. At this time, Wonder Woman reduced her speed and was constantly lowering her altitude. Yang Le knew they should have arrived.
Sure enough, Yang Le, with his Asgardian sensitivity to magic and divine power, saw a layer of film like a bubble that would definitely be unnoticed if not carefully observed. After passing through that film, an island bearing ancient Greek architecture appeared before him.
Only about one-fifth of the island's area had buildings; the rest was all natural scenery, and the climate was also different from the outside world. The cold sea breeze seemed not to affect it here. The film seemed to isolate the cold wind, and here it was only spring-like warmth.
"This is truly a good place to live in seclusion," Yang Le couldn't help but blurt out.
"Paradise Island is indeed the most beautiful place in the world," Wonder Woman squeezed out a smile, possibly only at this time could she alleviate the anxiety in her heart.
"It's just a pity that no male is ever allowed to enter," Yang Le smiled wryly. "Speaking of which, won't I be breaking the rules if I go in?"
"Special circumstances," Wonder Woman slowly descended with Yang Le. "Don't worry, I will persuade my sisters. After all, you are the helper I invited, and I won't embarrass you."
After the two landed, Yang Le's feet stepped on the soft grass. Wonder Woman also released Yang Le's hand, which he couldn't help but feel a little regretful, after all, the former's hand felt very good, completely unlike a hand that had been wielding swords and spears for many years, not to mention calluses, there wasn't even dead skin.
"This way," Wonder Woman raised her hand to signal Yang Le to follow her, and then walked towards the buildings. Yang Le immediately followed.
They stopped after only a few steps, not because they had arrived, but because a group of Amazon soldiers riding warhorses had surrounded them.
One of the Amazon warriors, wearing armor that was obviously different from the others, controlled his warhorse and walked to the front of the two, raising his voice.
"Diana, why did you bring a man onto Paradise Island? Don't you know this is a taboo?"
"Philippus, I know," Wonder Woman's eyes were firm and not at all intimidated by the surrounding tall horses and gleaming weapons.
"This is the helper I brought to help us find the murderer who killed the Amazon Queen!"
