The Comprehensive Evolution of American Comics
#443 - Rhythm Master
"This isn't something we can decide," Howard said in a deep voice. He originally thought that even if Magneto was tempted, he wouldn't immediately agree to Yang Le's suggestion. He didn't expect this mutant leader to lose his usual composure. Could Magneto's sudden decision be related to his earlier gaffe?
In fact, when Magneto had just agreed, the Supreme Squadron, who had undergone simple treatment, felt that this was a good idea. Although they were a government-recognized superhero team, they were essentially working for free. Not only did they not receive a salary, but they were also affected in their real lives due to missions.
Only a few members of the Supreme Squadron were financially secure; most of them still had to worry about their livelihoods. Perhaps this was the helplessness of superheroes.
So, when faced with the suggestion made by Yang Le, they all voted in favor in their hearts. This good proposal, which could reduce superhuman incidents, should be implemented as soon as possible.
So, what were Howard's own thoughts? Actually, it didn't matter. Yang Le's guess was correct. Howard was indeed an official person, otherwise his Stark Industries wouldn't be leading the world. This was inseparable from the government's support.
Even becoming a superhero wasn't his own wish. This will be discussed later, but he didn't have the authority to make decisions on big matters. Howard had to consider the ideas of those above.
You should know that Stark Industries started by making weapons, so Howard had inextricable links with the military. Because of his special status and powerful research capabilities, Howard knew many shady things that the government and the military were secretly doing.
Howard knew of five research institutes studying mutants, including the one that previously held Storm. This shows how much importance the higher-ups placed on mutants.
Ordinary people try every means to expel mutants, but the real big shots lock mutants up like treasures. It's a sick society.
This is also why he didn't let Tony skip grades and finish college early. Howard didn't want Tony to be exposed to these things. He knew that although the child didn't say it, he actually admired himself very much. If he knew that his boss was a glamorous on the outside but rusty on the inside, he would be very disappointed.
Howard wanted to force a smile, but the composure he had cultivated over the years dealing with politicians, businessmen, and the military stopped the emotion that shouldn't have appeared on his face. He opened his mouth, habitually wanting to delay.
"Then go report to your superiors," Magneto blocked Howard's mouth, cutting off his idea of using delaying tactics. "I built the floating island to give my compatriots a warm home. Now, it's just a matter of expanding it a little."
"Don't worry, I will move the floating island away. New York Harbor is too small to accommodate all the mutants."
"It's not a matter of land," Howard wanted to argue, but Magneto simply ignored him. With a wave of his hand, a black vortex that kept collapsing inwards appeared beside him. The vortex was like a vacuum cleaner, constantly absorbing the surrounding things, but it didn't absorb much, only some gravel and dust.
"I'm not discussing with you, Howard," Magneto said coldly. "I'm just informing you. At most one day, I will announce the establishment of a mutant nation myself. Believe me, that's not what you want to see."
After saying that, Magneto took the lead and walked towards the wormhole, allowing the wormhole to swallow him. The mutants behind him followed without doubt. Only Megan was a little scared, but after seeing Colossus go in and out without any problems, she followed.
Thus, this battle, like the dust stirred up after the wormhole disappeared, finally settled. Howard's hands, which were placed on his pants, clenched several times before finally letting go.
"Can someone tell me what's going on?" Quicksilver, who had vaguely woken up, asked in a low voice after watching the whole process in a daze.
"Weren't we supposed to capture the mutant who killed six people? How did it suddenly become a matter of national importance?"
Although Quicksilver's voice was small, everyone heard him because the scene was very quiet. Everyone present was stunned.
That's right, weren't they here to arrest someone in the first place? How did it seem to have completely gone off track? Who led the rhythm astray?
Howard turned his head to look at an empty spot, where Yang Le had originally been floating. It was now long gone.
"Don't look," Strange's lazy voice came. He was now lying on his Cloak of Levitation, looking like he was lying on a hammock.
"He left long ago when you and Magneto were arguing. Don't ask me why I didn't tell you; he gave me a shushing gesture."
"So you listened to him?" Howard laughed in anger.
"You're an ordinary person, so you can't feel it, but I can 'see' clearly," Strange straightened up with the support of the cloak, speaking seriously for once.
"That alien named Yang Le, regardless of whether what he said is true or not, at least his strength cannot be underestimated. The power contained in that body almost made me 'throw up'."
Strange pretended to gag a few times before continuing, "I know you might not understand if I say it like this. Let me describe it to you like this. Remember how I described Hyperion to you?"
"A mobile nuclear bomb," Howard glanced at the tattered Hyperion and said without thinking.
"I need to update my evaluation now," Strange crossed his legs. "In front of that Yang Le, Hyperion can't even touch the edge of a Jericho missile. I can only say that I was ignorant before. If I couldn't feel the aura of magic on him, I would have thought that some dimensional demon god had run out."
Although Strange dissed his own product, Howard couldn't care about it at this time, because he understood what Strange meant. Yang Le was a super being even more powerful than Hyperion.
"What he said is true," Hyperion walked out of the team with a smile that was uglier than crying. "I had a brief fight with him, but I was defeated after only a few rounds."
"You can only last a few rounds?" Howard was really unable to hold back at this time. Hyperion was the strongest hero on the surface right now. If even he could only last a few rounds in Yang Le's hands, wouldn't others be crushed with one touch?
"I haven't finished yet," Hyperion revealed a smile that was uglier than crying. "The few rounds we exchanged were just him playing with me. When the other party got serious, I couldn't even last one round."
After listening to Hyperion's explanation, Howard only felt his vision go dark.
I feel like many readers may have already figured out who the boss of the mutant chapter I'm going to arrange is, but rest assured that the mutant chapter won't just feature mutants. Another superhuman race from Marvel will also appear.
