#554 - The Four Black Generals (?)
“The vanguard troops we sent out haven't responded for a long time.”
A gaunt figure, as thin as withered wood, wearing a black robe, floated out of the darkness. Before him knelt a group of vanguard soldiers.
“Since the army descended upon Earth, we have been invincible. This is the first time so many soldiers have lost contact at once.”
A figure with an exaggeratedly large battle blade slung over his shoulder, most of his body hidden under a dark cloak, quietly appeared behind the vanguard soldiers. Beside him was a well-built woman with two horns on her head, the upper half of her face blue, holding a spear as tall as herself.
“Boom! Boom!”
Two loud noises were accompanied by an earthquake-like tremor. A gigantic beast, its body covered in scales, glared menacingly at the kneeling vanguard soldiers.
“What were those guys called again? Ebony Maw.” The figure with the battle blade asked the slender figure casually.
“Superheroes, Corvus Glaive.” Ebony Maw replied expressionlessly. “Translated into a language you can understand, ‘superheroes.’”
“Haha!” Corvus Glaive laughed loudly. “Heroes running around with their tails between their legs, truly the funniest joke, my dear.”
Proxima Midnight remained cold, but still nodded in agreement. Black Dwarf, on the other hand, let out a few low, amused growls.
“Regardless, Corvus Glaive.” Ebony Maw lightly tapped the ground and landed, waving his hand to dismiss the kneeling vanguard soldiers.
“Those cowards actually defeated an entire vanguard army. This is a great disgrace. I can't even imagine what will happen if the master finds out.”
“We've wasted enough time on Earth.” Ebony Maw clasped his hands together in front of his chest. “The master has already lost patience. He even abandoned us to search for the other two gems in other parts of the universe.”
“Perhaps, the reason those heroes were able to eliminate a vanguard army is that they used the gems.”
Ebony Maw was eloquent. His casual words stirred the hearts of everyone present. If what this withered branch said was true, then the person who snatched the gems would be the greatest contributor.
“Interesting.” Corvus Glaive twirled his blade. The blade cut through the air, emitting a faint sound that chilled everyone present except Proxima Midnight.
“Tell me the location where the signal came from. I'll go take a look myself.”
After Corvus Glaive finished speaking, he didn't even turn his head, carrying his battle blade as he walked away. Seeing this, Black Dwarf became anxious, wanting to compete for the credit as well.
“Clang!”
A spear slammed onto Black Dwarf's path, blocking his way. It was Proxima Midnight. She held her spear and calmly stared at the tall Black Dwarf without a trace of fear.
“Roar!”
Black Dwarf, enraged, roared and raised his hand to grab Proxima Midnight. The latter tightened her grip on her spear, ready to strike first and pierce a few holes in the former.
“Enough!”
Ebony Maw's voice was not loud, but it was enough to strike the hearts of everyone present, but this was not enough to stop the two generals.
Ebony Maw knew that he definitely couldn't stop the two. The hands that were originally clasped together in front of his chest gently separated. With his movements, Proxima Midnight and Black Dwarf flew back several meters.
This was not enough to hurt the two, but it was enough to separate them. Taking advantage of this moment, Ebony Maw quietly landed between the two, stopping their fight.
“We are all blades of the master. As long as we can get things done, we should be satisfied. Infighting must never happen.”
Black Dwarf snorted out two streams of white air dismissively. Proxima Midnight slammed her spear heavily on the ground, then turned and left, looking like she was going to help her husband, Corvus Glaive.
“Wait a moment, Proxima Midnight.” Ebony Maw suddenly called out to her. The latter turned her head and waited for the former to speak.
“The last time the vanguard troops investigated, they found some clues about those survivors. I need you to go and see if you can find them. Black Dwarf can't do this kind of work.”
“Understood.” Proxima Midnight nodded, then followed her husband's example and left without looking back.
Leaving behind a large number of vanguard soldiers, Black Dwarf with an unhappy expression, and Ebony Maw, who didn't know what he was thinking.
…
“Splash!”
Corvus Glaive plunged into the water. Surrounded by a group of vanguard soldiers, he submerged into the sea. Soon, he saw the underwater mountain that was marked as the target. It looked unremarkable, but the small submarine waiting nearby told a different story.
Swinging his legs, Corvus Glaive quickly rushed to the target. Ignoring the request of his subordinates to lead the way, he raised the battle blade in his hand and slashed at the submarine.
The sharp battle blade passed through the submarine without hindrance. After a brief wait, the weathered submarine instantly split in half, losing its power and turning into deep-sea garbage, falling to the seabed.

'This way, these rats won't be able to escape.'
Corvus Glaive switched hands holding the battle blade. After a brief accumulation of power, he swung the blade at the mountain again.
The seawater was briefly separated. The ever-victorious battle blade cut the mountain in half, revealing a scene that did not belong to nature at all, a technological building that obviously exceeded Earth's technology.
Because of the angle of the swing, Corvus Glaive was unable to completely cut open the base. He only cut out a small incision, but it was enough for him to sneak in.
Although drowning the enemy with seawater was the best option, Corvus Glaive was obviously not prepared to choose this simple option. This opponent was his favorite part of the battle.
Skipping the process and only seeing the tragic death of the prey, Corvus Glaive didn't like this kind of tasteless thing. He wanted to personally catch those rats who wasted his time, even if he couldn't find the gems, he could use them to relieve his anger.
Changing his sword-holding posture, Corvus Glaive took the lead and rushed into the crack. Behind him were dozens of vanguard soldiers following. Obviously having subordinates but exploring the way himself, this represented that he simply looked down on the creatures on Earth.
This was the confidence built up by two years of victory, just like what Ebony Maw said before, since coming to Earth, they had never lost a battle.
But today was obviously different.
Corvus Glaive rushed into the base. Without the obstruction of seawater, he was about to open his mouth and ridicule the survivors in the base, even though Corvus Glaive didn't see them at all.
But after leaving the seawater, what greeted him was not air, but an iron fist.
“Bang!”
With a muffled sound, Corvus Glaive, seeing stars, fell weakly to the ground like a sparrow hitting glass.
Guess who that Black General wasn't invited to participate in the Marvel movie.
