#684 - Weapon Upgrade
The burly, bearded strongman walking over was tall, but his physique was strangely proportioned. Despite his massive size, his limbs appeared short and thick, and his head was enormous. If you ignored his overall size, he really did resemble a traditional dwarf.
While most people are familiar with the Marvel Universe's dwarves from the movies, the dwarves in the comic universe are actually quite different from their cinematic counterparts.
In the comic universe, dwarves are short in stature, much like the traditional dwarves people imagine. There's a panel in the comics where a dwarf is standing next to Tony Stark, and the dwarf only reaches Tony's waist, estimating their average height to be around one meter.
The movie universe's dwarves are a product of artistic license. Although most people don't approve, they certainly left a lasting impression on many viewers.
Yang Le was no exception, so the dwarves before him were clearly based on the dwarf king from his subconscious, the one who left a deep impression on him. After all, the 9527 universe was his creation.
The only difference between the dwarves before him and traditional dwarves was their height. The attire they wore matched the stereotypical image in Yang Le's mind.
Perhaps to showcase their craftsmanship, not just the dwarf in front of him, but all the dwarves hammering away at the anvils were clad in full armor.
The surfaces of these armors were like mirrors, with exquisite patterns. It was clear at a glance that each piece was a treasure worthy of being passed down through generations. Forget about wearing them into battle, they could be displayed in a museum.
"Durin, you old codger!" Odin boomed with laughter, extending his hand to grasp the dwarf's. Odin's thick arm was only about as thick as two of the dwarf's fingers.
"What brings you here today? What is it? Is your old spearhead not working properly? Did you want me to give it a few whacks to straighten it out?"
The crude joke vividly displayed the dwarf's boorishness and heartiness. Odin, the butt of the joke, didn't get angry and continued to chuckle.
"You may not have the fortune to see my old spearhead. I'm here to do something else."
Odin stepped aside, revealing Yang Le behind him. Of course, given Durin's height, he had already seen Yang Le, but he was waiting for Odin to introduce him.
"This is a distinguished guest from Asgard. He wants to borrow a place to enhance his weapon. Just give him some equipment for one night."
As soon as he heard that someone wanted to forge equipment in his territory, Durin's expression changed. If this person hadn't been brought by Odin, he might have directly labeled Yang Le as someone trying to cause trouble.
It wasn't Durin's fault for being sensitive. This concerned the dwarves' livelihood. In terms of craftsmanship, even the gods with divine status wouldn't dare to say they could consistently surpass the dwarves.
If Odin had come to commission the dwarves to help enhance a weapon, Durin would have happily accepted and personally completed the commission. But to disregard so many masters and insist on doing it himself was a sign of distrust towards the dwarves.
Either this kid really had skills, or he was just a complete fool. It couldn't be that Odin was just looking for fun, could it?
Durin thought for a moment and asked, "Let him do it himself? Without our help?"
This was giving Yang Le a way out for Odin's sake. An ordinary person wouldn't have received this treatment. If he was truly skilled, that would be fine, but if he was just a showoff, the dwarves would definitely nitpick, finding fault even where there was none.
"No need. You wouldn't understand the magic inscribed on my weapon. If you rashly touch it, you might damage the magic on it."
Yang Le shook his head, declining Durin's offer. These words were very polite, but the dwarves, including Durin, flushed with anger.
If you were talking about special magic, the dwarves might not understand, but the magic that could be inscribed on weapons was something even a three-year-old dwarf could recite from memory.
In the dwarves' eyes, this wasn't just a matter of looking down on them; it was completely disregarding them as people.
Odin's expression also changed, and he quickly added, "Um, believe me, he definitely didn't mean it that way."
Yang Le also realized that the atmosphere was off. The dwarves were all staring at him, and the Asgardians below had also stopped what they were doing. They all wanted to see what this arrogant kid was capable of.
Great, it looks like I said the wrong thing.
Helpless, Yang Le could only reveal his weapon. Once they saw it clearly, they would know that what he said was true.
Raising his right hand, an exquisite golden bracelet appeared before everyone. Durin, who was closest, had to admit that he could tell at a glance that this bracelet was a good item.
Suddenly, the bracelet on Yang Le's wrist began to ripple like water, transforming from an unmoving object into something that slithered like a snake from his wrist to the palm of his hand.
With a flash of golden light, the flowing metal stretched out once again. This time, it reached a length of one meter and eighty centimeters, and a spearhead emerged from the upper end.
In just less than a second, the exquisite bracelet transformed into a golden short spear. Regardless of its lethality, it certainly looked imposing.
"Clang!"
Yang Le thrust the short spear into the ground, and the dull thud proved that the short spear was much heavier than it looked. Even the floor of the Asgardian forge was dented.
"It looks like he does have some skills." Durin nodded. To withstand the artifacts forged here, everything within reach in their workshop was specially made to prevent frequent repairs to damaged infrastructure.
Currently, the weapons that could damage this place were all famous, such as Thor's Mjolnir, Odin's Gungnir, and the Destroyer armor.
The fact that the short spear in Yang Le's hand could damage the floor proved that it had reached the ranks of artifacts, although it was clearly not as good as the aforementioned artifacts.
Yang Le lifted the short spear in his hand and shook it, and then a series of precise magical runes appeared. These were the foundation of the artifact, which ordinary people would hide.
But Yang Le not only displayed them, but also generously handed the short spear to Durin to show that he didn't have any ulterior motives when he spoke earlier.
Durin, who was standing to the side, had been drooling for a long time. After living for so long, besides fine wine, only these metal lumps could make him dream of them.
As soon as he took the short spear, Durin felt a considerable weight. Just as he thought, this short spear was far heavier than it looked, and even he felt a bit strained.
After weighing the short spear, Durin focused his attention on the magical runes. These exquisite runes that revolved around the short spear were the foundation of the artifact.
