The Comprehensive Evolution of American Comics

#786 - The bomb has been planted

Although Stark Tower has been greatly changed, it wasn't built from scratch, so it was impossible to completely alter the internal framework in such a short time.

Therefore, the route marked on the map is still useful, but the various areas labeled on it are now meaningless, as it has become an armory.

Protected by Susan's abilities, the three moved forward against the wall. After entering the building, they didn't encounter any more Sentinel robots, probably due to the dense array of cameras.

There was practically one every ten steps, with no blind spots. Susan had only seen such a dense camera distribution in a bank.

Fortunately, Reed's little invention allowed them to ignore these cameras, otherwise they might have been discovered as soon as they entered the building. Susan didn't think these cameras were just ordinary cameras; they were definitely not as simple as they looked.

According to Reed's plan, they needed to place the manufactured bombs in the Sentinel robot factory, where there would definitely be many explosives. Combined with the explosives he made, they could easily blow up the entire building.

Even if they didn't take down Howard, they could destroy his robot-manufacturing capabilities, making him less of a threat without his robot army.

Unlike the other Worthy, Howard is essentially an ordinary person in a suit of armor. An EMP would take care of him.

Based on what they saw outside the building, the Sentinel robots were launched from the central part of the building, so the factory's location probably wouldn't be too far from that area.

So, their main task now was to go up. Thanks to Tyrone's abilities, they didn't need to climb stairs and quickly reached the central location.

Susan thought she would have to search for the armory for a while, but as soon as she got upstairs, she saw the assembly line. Howard didn't even bother to hide the armory inside.

Probably because he didn't expect anyone to infiltrate the building and evade all the defenses he had set up.

The next task was simple: set the bombs and run.

A total of five bombs. It sounded like very few, but Reed had created them in just three hours. During that time, he also used Valeria's device to make a set of combat suits for everyone and a small device to change allegiances.

He even made communication devices, etc. Fortunately, Reed had the ability to extend multiple 'hands,' otherwise, someone else with similar skills probably wouldn't be able to handle such multitasking.

Because there were only five bombs, it would be a bit difficult to blow up the entire building. This required some effort in the placement.

Although Susan wasn't as skilled as Reed, she was a graduate of a top university and had been influenced by Reed, a polymath, so she had some knowledge of the skills that terrorists needed to learn.

'First, we need to find the building's load-bearing columns, then find the location where energy is supplied within the armory, and finally find the location where highly explosive materials are stored. As long as we find these three locations, just five bombs can turn the entire building into ruins.'

Susan transmitted her thoughts through the mental channel that Quentin had set up in advance. This was the communication method they had agreed upon from the beginning, to avoid the sound being detected.

Quentin was surprisingly clever. As soon as Susan's order was issued, he found the energy supply pipeline and followed it to the energy storage location.

Then there was Tyrone. Although this child hadn't received much education, he could easily find the building's load-bearing columns. According to him, this was because his interest was related to architecture.

There are many load-bearing columns in a building, possibly close to a thousand. Even if there were dozens on each floor, they only had five bombs and certainly couldn't cover everything.

But Tyrone came up with a solution: they could place the bombs near the highly explosive materials and energy storage, but at a certain distance.

This was because if the explosives placed in these two locations exploded, they would definitely destroy the nearby load-bearing columns. If they were too close, it would be a waste, and if they were too far, and some pillars in the middle were not affected, then there might be changes.

On Tyrone's suggestion, the three uniformly placed the explosives on the left side of the building, using a small tree-cutting technique to make the building tilt to one side, causing it to collapse.

The installation was all done by Tyrone, as only he had the ability to penetrate the protective layer and install the bombs in the weakest parts of the objects. Because there was no interference, they quickly completed all the work.

Until the bombs were installed, they were not hindered at all. It seemed that the decoy teams were doing well and had indeed attracted Howard's attention.

Speaking of which, Reed and his team were in a terrible situation. Don't think Susan's mission was uneventful and smooth; it took them about an hour, including the journey and installation.

And in that hour, Reed and his team had been under constant attack.

At first, there were only a few Sentinel robots to catch them, but with their heroic performance, more and more Sentinel robots came to attack them.

Not to mention others, there were already hundreds of Sentinel robots attacking Johnny and Ben. The sky and ground were densely packed. Fortunately, the heat-resistant coating of these robots wasn't too advanced, and Johnny could still hold on.

As for Ben, he was a little more relaxed than Johnny. These robots couldn't penetrate his defense for the time being. He could slowly smash them one by one, but he would also feel tired after a long time.

Moreover, after several rounds of attacks, these robots knew to attack his weak spots, which were his eyes.

Probably because someone had ordered it, these robots began to constantly target his eyes. At first, Ben almost fell for it. Fortunately, he closed his eyes in time, but the violent impact of the missiles still made his eyeballs feel uncomfortable.

He had no choice but to cover his face with one hand and attack with only one hand, which undoubtedly reduced his efficiency.

If this continued, Johnny's energy would be exhausted, and he would be trapped, but now all they could do was trust Susan and the other two.

And Susan and the other three did not disappoint them.

"Boom!"

First, there was a deafening sound, followed by a storm that swept through. Even the thick-skinned Ben could feel it, not to mention Johnny, who was flying in the sky. The wind blew him from side to side, and he almost lost control of his balance.

Several blocks away, a building collapsed.
