The Demon Child - Awakening

Chapter 58 - 58 - Together, woven a soul

It happened, something I had no control over, my nightmare side. A reaction chosen vampires have, their deepest fears change their body and protect their weakened state. I've only thought about that very few times, and I only faced it once, when Adlif was desperate and transformed, although that sizeable scaly colossus was still no match for me, his weakness led to his demise.

I thought of chuckling, and I heard it echo back to me. It was like I was in an empty room, and a continuous echo happened until it disappeared. Sashal would also be in a situation similar to what I am in, so I decided to call out her name.

After the fifth time of my calling and no response, just an echo, I gave up and looked around again. I forced myself to look at what was presumably down, and it seemed I had no physical body. Instead, I just tried to connect back to my body, and it worked. I gained back the ability to feel and hear, but there was no sight, but I did think that I was back.

My arms and legs were gone; the entire lower body was just a large tail like a snake. My arms had morphed into wings, and I could feel them flapping. I couldn't see anything, but I could tell that my body was making some strange sounds. Not only that, but I could almost feel as though my mouth wouldn't close, appearing as to have oversized fangs, which was probably correct.

Feeling even more profound, I connected to her, Sashal. It was vague, but I could get a new feeling of what her nightmare side was. It was much more straightforward than mine, her body adapted into a pit, appearing as arms and legs, although I could feel that my body couldn't control her.

My body began to make high pitched sounds and at a pace. Before long, I began to gain something to the prowess of sight; my body had connected itself to its version, view by sound. I heard about it very vaguely, creatures like bats and dolphins, which I saw on my way here, used it within their lives.

Xirax's soul ability was also sound-based, and if Sashal didn't copy mine and kept it, was the best she could've done. It was very slim, but chosen vampires could gain another ability, which they can only use if they are transformed into their beastly self, and for me, I was lucky.

I felt lucky was just because my nightmare was now even more potent. Heartbeats, wind rustling in the trees, even the movement of energy within the crystals, and by looking around, it wasn't there.

Throughout my blackout, Sashal and I had absorbed that large crystal, and we saw that half of our body was on the floor, creating the smallest amount of sound of blood, gushing out of the wounds, my body flying towards it and picked it up with my tail.

It put my body to its mouth and swallowed it whole, making me whole once again. Afterwards, yet I made a fast cl.i.c.k.i.n.g sound, each time, I could see what was around me. Chimera's were coming my way, being free of their chains and killing most of the guards, only some escaped.

It acted upon its own, but the next thing I knew, I was behind a chimera near me and began to engulf the beast. I didn't even see the poor monster's face, and as soon after my body ate it, it moved onto its next victim, that being a guard.

Before he died, a fireball went my way and became unlit in midair. I wasn't sure why, but when the fireball disappeared, it was as though it lost power, and then I realised that my body had cancelled the fireball with sound.

The guard didn't last long, somehow being eaten, armour and all, in a stomach that wasn't growing larger in anyways. After massacring everyone within the mine, I heard Sashal's voice, and I called back. Eventually, we were able to talk to each other, so we did.

"What we've been eating, where is it going?" I asked her.

"I think it might be my new ability, yes I can turn myself to blood, but not other peoples, and I'm not sure, but I think that we have some sort of field that makes us even faster,"

"But how would that work?"

"I believe that your sound based nightmare ability is keeping microscopic amounts of blood in the air and if you even get damaged it will heal instantaneously,"

I stopped talking and concentrated on my sight, and there I saw them, thousands upon millions of droplets reflecting sound in the air. Very weirdly, some of them formed together and became some sort of stake, which launched itself as fast as my body and hit another guard. He fell, and we quickly ate his body, it didn't even touch the floor.

"Not only can you make any blood your own, so your demon ability could've changed, but it also seems that you can control it anywhere,"

"How do you know that?" She asked me.

"Since my newfound ability in this form is sound, my body doesn't see its surroundings, it hears it instead,"

"Echolocation?"

"Correct, like Xirax's, but can use to its full potential, that's what a nightmare side is, our full potential that is constricted by civilisation,"

"Stop flirting and tell me what's happening, as I can see nothing,"

"Well I know that your body and my body have combined in a sense, you have made me gain a pair of arms and legs, but we haven't used them. In this form, we've killed twenty-six chimeras and guards."

Finally, our body decided to head outside, and my mind was overwhelmed—the rustling of trees, the bang of metal against metal, footsteps in the forest. I'm not sure why, but right then it almost felt as though my head began to bulge before stopping.

A loud cl.i.c.k.i.n.g was heard from my body, and then I noticed what my brother had done. He had massacred all of the guards, but that wasn't the worst part. Bit by bit, they each stood up, and what I had expected to be glowing blue eyes.

In a matter of minutes, my brother and Ren's sister had created an army, one that didn't care about pain, loss or needs, an army of the undead was laying out there, and I expected enough that there were enough to take even us down.
