The Demon King Seems to Conquer the World
Episode 098: Wallis the Chaser *
A man named Wallis, who is part of the Temporary Expedition Brigade of the Kingdom of Peninsula, was now walking in the woods far north.
Wallis is a man who turns twenty-eight this year and has no last name.
The kingdom of Peninsula is deep after the claws of the Dauntless War, which ended 175 years ago.
In this war, which lasted for roughly fifty years, at one time half of the national territory was occupied by the heathen kingdom of the Enterk Dragon, and to the southern regions, for forty years, under pagan rule.
Even after the war, their pagan bloodlines remained and, of course, although conversion was forced, traces of cultural mixing remained intense.
The name Wallis is one of them, and if you use the Arn pronunciation used in the Cocorulu area, it becomes known as Wallis, or Wallis.
But Wallis himself had no such knowledge, so he did not know the origin of his own name, etc.
Wallis was never given the discipline of academia this way by birth, and the letters can only read the minimum words involved in his work.
I don't have a last name.
The parents, who were smallholder farmers of the farm, named the child born as the third, Wallis in the name of a native who hits a distant relative, and gave it to the ”intermediary" when he grew up to some extent and the food became fat and oppressive of the household's food costs.
An intermediary is a kind of slave trader who introduces a child where there is a demand for labor and receives a commission instead.
It was only people whose slave traders had changed their name since national law forbade legal slave hunting in the country.
In fact, the mechanism of giving money to parents as a child's price and receiving more money from ”referrals" remains unchanged, and the child will be forced into forced labour.
What was different from real slavery was that this labor had a deadline.
In the case of Wallis, he was employed by the Lords as a miscellaneous worker in the mountain villages and made to work for ten years of annual work.
When he was sold to his parents at the age of eleven and finished his seasonal labor at the age of twenty-one, he had only one worn out regular outfit on hand and a few pieces of copper coins left.
He then volunteers for, and becomes part of, a regiment that happened to be recruiting soldiers.
The regiment, which at the time was recruiting young people, was just as good as it should have been, with only an army of capital, with only food left unfettered, and a crude but sometimes secure place to sleep.
So after spending almost seven years, Wallis learned how to handle sword shield spears and how to bow and iron cannon.
But the artillery costs gunpowder for training, so I've actually only fired it two or three times.
For this reason, the training had begun only with old-time weapons.
A visit there was to recruit those who wished to join the Northern Crusades.
Now and ever, the Kingdom of Peninsula is not keen to join the Northern Crusades.
The kingdom of Peninsula, which occupies the southernmost part of the Islamist community, was not as interested in territorial management in the North as it was in temporarily not responding to the convocation of the Crusades, but the papal realm blamed its unwillingness, and war broke out after it could be rubbed, the king's neck fell and the lord of the throne changed.
Afterwards, at one time, there were times when we sent 10,000 soldiers, but in this crusade there are only a thousand and three participants.
At first they sent out an army of a thousand men. I wanted to make a name for it.
Because of this state of affairs, it was common in the Royal Peninsula Army to send troops out to the north but not to participate in active incursions, as in other regiments, but rather to hit rear guards and supply line defenses.
Thus, there is little chance of looting, which is where the soldiers make their money, and we cannot hope to reap the gains from looting.
Instead, however, participants received a special salary increase of 50% in addition to their normal salary, so to speak, a travel fee.
Wallis was participating for that purpose.
But now they're hunting me for a very troublesome job.
It was a mountain hunt to capture the long ears that escaped the other day.
Wallis walks silently as he steps on the ground of decaying soil mixed with dead branches.
The deciduous leaves descended thickly and the soil, repeatedly frozen or melted, wet gently and, when treading, sank slightly, exhaling the water contained.
In a home with good teasing and dry sea breezes, it's like a quality soil you don't see, and the gloomy weather and cold air go hand in hand, making you feel dark.
Walking forward, so did a man named Early from the hunter.
Wallis is just walking in heavy gear, but the man moving forward is a light gear and instead walks slowly looking at the ground as a giro.
Wallis doesn't know, but it seems there are traces of people walking.
After a while, Early stopped and turned this way.
When I caught up, I said, "Let's take a break".
"It'll be too soon"
"It's neither too early nor too late. I'm tired."
Use strange old words, but Early isn't that old.
I was just about forty years old.
However, I did not give a verbal answer because I am certain that he is an elderly person at the moment if you look from Wallis.
"Ugh, you can't. I don't know the dirt."
"What do you mean?
"If it's hometown dirt, even if it's one more leg of Sissi, I can tell it's after the leg that passed through here hours ago. I'm not used to this dirt."
Early came up with an excuse.
"If only I had a dog."
"Take care of yourself. If you kill the guy who's running, you'll get a special reward."
If I kill him, I'll do the reward of two pieces of gold, the nobleman said before I left.
The amount of two pieces of gold is a lot of money for Wallis that he has never even gripped.
"You can't have the money. That's what the country is all about."
While we were teaming up, so to speak, over the past few days, I found out that this man named Early seemed to have been connected to prison for a wrongful crime in the past, and there was something about which he was persuading the world.
He quit the hunter and joined the army because he couldn't stay in the village because of his wrongdoing.
I don't know if I'm actually guilty, and I'm not interested, but I have trouble not believing in the country without darkness because of it.
Early sat on the spot on his own.
"In the first place, let's not say it's a horrible face stripper. I'm glad you got the gold, but you don't have an ex-child to kill."
Wallis, too, had heard the story.
I don't know what it was for, but when he ran away, he showed it to me and peeled off his face.
imitate as if you were an Eastern barbarian listening to the story.
He's a barbarian who doesn't know culture.
"Besides, if you're not a beast, you're not a big boy. Deep after legs."
If the rest of your legs are deep, it should be easy to find.
I don't know about the soil. Was that an excuse to rest?
"If you weren't going to win, I told you to run"
"I guess I'll get paid for that."
Wallis didn't remember hearing about the reward for running away without killing him.
Probably just looking and reporting won't give you a dime.
I have to kill him or catch him.
"Mmmm..."
"That sounds stupid."
When I was thrown away like that, a black thing swirled in Wallis' heart.
"That's why you do your pay job. If we don't make it to the rendezvous point, it's a wreck."
"Hmm..."
Would you have waited long enough?
"It's time, okay?
"Ah."
Early got up and walked out looking at the ground again.
Walk without conversation.
In time, the trees became a little denser, and somehow the width began to open, about ten steps away.
After walking for a while, a stick suddenly stretched out of the shadow of the tree, hitting Early.
Avoiding a thin metal plate turnip, Early, with his neck stuck, fell to collapse as it was.
Before I could catch up with my understanding of what had happened, a man painted black on his face appeared out of the shade nuzzly and reached out to Early's fallen body.
"Hih..."
The figure was as if the ancient demons said to live in the woods had represented themselves.
But the demon doesn't seem to have noticed this one, fishing for Early's fallen body.
Are you trying to take your belongings?
Wallis thought, let's fight.
Because the enemy seemed unaware of us.
Reach quietly to your back and take a short bow.
The experience of shooting sambal arrows at straw bundles in training moved the body smoothly without trembling, even under such circumstances.
I took the bow, I took the arrow from the arrow barrel, I connected, I set up, I squeezed.
Gyu...... and aim.
So, as he accidentally noticed something, the devil looked more like Wallis.
The moment his eyes met, Wallis' right hand was letting go of the strings.
The unleashed arrow aimed at the torso, but slightly then flew towards the face of the demon.
Still powerful enough, Wallis felt the response to hit first.
But the arrows never pierced anyone.
The arrow was grabbed (...) by (...).
The devil moved his neck vigorously to the side, while at the same time waving his arms at an unnoticed speed, the arrow was grabbed by the devil's hand around the middle.
The lump that should pierce the flesh and pierce the bone remains untouched and floating nowhere.
The demon who grabbed the arrow, looking at the arrow in his hand as if he were a little surprised himself, once again abandoned the arrow in an unconstitutional manner, disturbed by evasion.
He pulled his sword out of his sheath and twinkled it, and rushed out to Wallis with a beastly malaise.
"- Huh!"
It was clear that he couldn't afford to hold the two arrows and release them, so Wallis threw away his short bow at once.
Grab and pull out the pattern of the sword lowered to your hips with that hand.
but the move was not sophisticated.
I have never repeatedly practiced emergency operations such as throwing out a bow and pulling out a sword, and fear and haste made the movement even more irresistible.
When I pulled out my sword, the devil was packing ten steps away into one step.
Without time to take the stand, Wallis rolls out his sword.
The sword, however, did not capture meat, but instead a heavy impact cracked on his arm.
A fist was struck in the arm grabbing the sword.
The heavy impact applied to the forearm makes the hand holding the sword numb.
The sword, which he gripped so hard, was then taken off his arm, and when his wrist was twisted with a gyu, his fist opened and fell to the ground.
As he was kicked down in the chest and rolled to the ground, Wallis noticed in his heart.
I'm no match for this guy. Not by the time the fighting power is hopeless in the first place.
In the first place, there's no way you can fight and win with an existence that grabs a flying arrow and stops it.
It's a bummer.
My life is over here.
but the devil kicked Wallis even more and when he lay down depressed, with a rope or something, he clasped his arms around his back.
Pulling his tied arm at his disposal and letting him get up, he let him sit still.
And I came out in front of Wallis and poked him in the face.
Something I thought Wallis was the demon in the woods was obviously human, painting his face with black mud.
"Well... you weren't... you"
The man suddenly began to speak Wallis' mother tongue from his mouth.
"Ha ha..."
Wallis couldn't help but laugh at the lack of understanding of the situation.
Are you even dreaming about it? Why are you talking our language?
If this is the guy we were chasing, he's supposed to speak that long, unintelligible ear, right?
"Funny thing about this situation is that your liver sat down. Let me give you one good news. I'm not going to kill you right now. The bad news is, if you don't answer the questions I'm going to ask you now, or if you're lying, it's going to hurt so much that you're better off dead. In fact, if you don't speak to the end, you will suffer and die soon."
The devil started talking early, arrowhead.
In summary, that seems to mean torture from now on.
"I'm already torturing three guys like you. I'll compare it to the information I got there, so you can tell if you're lying. And if you talk honestly, you won't get hurt. For example, I don't lose my arm, one eye, or my nose and I have to spend the rest of my life hiding from people. If you want to live in the crowd, talk to the pepper. I'm not going to torture you for half a day, so I'm going to make a crisp eye or something."
Wallis looked behind the man all the time.
I mean, I turned to Early, but Early has no sign of getting up while he's down and down.
If Early were alive, he would have gotten up and sandwiched him from his back right now, but that was unlikely to be expected.
"So, first question, what's your name?
When they said that, in Wallis' head, the idea ran that he didn't want to reveal his name to the man.
At the same time, the idea that you can't possibly know your name, etc., and hearing your name to make it easier for you to get through future stories, so the authenticity of your name is not important in this case. The reasoning was good.
Kalimisle Hopper.
Wallis uttered a pseudonym.
Then the man stood up all the time.
And, roughly, as he shook up his leg, he stepped down with Wallis' leg thrown forward.
At the same time as the heavy hammer struck me, I heard a blunt sound of bogging, conveying bones.
A severe pain runs on my leg.
"Woo."
The moment I tried to raise my scream, the man's fist shot Wallis in the cheek with momentum.
I mean, Bunn beat me up.
Wallis' body is rolled down.
"Don't shout"
"Gu...... uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"
Still running severe pain in his broken leg, Wallis forced his mouth to shut.
When he was further stepped on his head and his helmet was roughly removed, he was brutally grabbed by his hair and pulled out of his mind.
From a rolling state on the ground, he is forced to wake up his upper body and sit down.
And my eyes met again.
"You said if you lied, you'd know. Are you a three-year-old, child-like intelligence? Or did you think I was a kind man with mercy for the shit below the cockroach I've been after my own life?
I did not see any kindness in the eyes of the man who said so.
It was the eye of an unavailable Wesen, like a hungry, cornered and chopped carnivore.
"Ask again. What's your name again?
"Wow, it's Wallis! Finger-length Wallis!
Wallis wondered if it was unnatural not to have a last name, and added a nickname.
of the finger length, was a nickname given during the seasonal working age because the drug finger was as long as the middle finger.
The special nickname was given because there was a time when there was another man on the same scene named Wallis.
That's not a lie.
I see you're Wallis.
When Wallis heard it, he thought the people who had broken his mouth before had spoken my name.
The name Karimisul Hopper is just a name I've come up with, not the name of a member of the Expeditionary Army.
If you name yourself Early, for example, this demon may have mistaken himself for Early.
But the name Karimisul was bad.
"Then here's the next question. How many people are after me?
"A thousand people."
and Wallis answered honestly.
"... well. But you're all alone in a thousand. If a thousand people are following my footsteps, they'll be coming up in a row, stripping the flour with a plate."
"You don't know? Six hundred people are looking for something not this way. We're two hundred."
"You don't have the right number. Eight hundred if you add it all up. Where did the other 200 go?"
"We should be looking for the other side of that big road. You know that. That's about it!
The story of how many people we have here, etc. would be the story we already got from them if we had a buddy who threw up earlier.
It's not particularly intrusive, so it's common sense, basic information.
This means that the man in front of him, following the inquiry of his first name, will be saying something like this to further answer each other and make sure the story is clear.
From Wallis, there was more to the suspicious ghost as well.
Instead of doing such a confirmation job, I want you to just let it go and appease me.
"So the group of six hundred is heading straight to Reform, searching roughly for the coastal area. You two hundred men keep an eye on the side."
"That's what happened. Happy now?"
"Oh. Well, that fits the story. So, you're on this side, and the two teams, big and small, are working closely together?"
"I don't know. That's not true."
I really didn't know this.
Talking about not working together doesn't make sense even if a soldier at the end like Wallis knows about it.
"Right. Well, I guess you're the only soldier I know."
"Let it go. Big favor."
"Then here's the next question. What's going on with your organization?
"Organizing?
It was an unfamiliar word.
"Was that a difficult word? Thousands of you are talking about who's leading, who's the leader of the 200 squad you belong to, who's your immediate boss, how many are leading."
"Huh? You didn't ask the other guy."
"Naturally I heard, but that could also be a lie. So I want to hear it from your mouth and verify it."
From Wallis, I couldn't understand the nerves to hear and confirm such wood-end information three times.
Is that important?
"The Captain General is Prince Zayed. Zayed Kamrisamri"
"Where is Soytz now?"
"... I'm leading a team of six hundred. But I don't know if he's actually leading in the field. Like this... even in your state of being in the woods."
"Next, then. Who's leading the 200?
"You mean the two hundred... the army of Uncle Drain who's hiring me is just in charge over here. My head is like a peanock."
"Then who will be your immediate superior?"
"I'm an old man with strong arms, Jen. He's the head of the Decathlon."
Wallis spoke with a pepper.
Anyway, if it's already out of someone else's mouth, I don't know whose mouth it's out of.
I can't blame anyone later.
"Your mouth is getting smoother. So, what's your assignment?
"Huh? I'm sure he's after you guys."
"Me? Are you a wreck hunter?
"I guess you guys are chasing because you can't catch fire on our luggage."
"... for God's sake. Let me know more."
The man changed his complexion.
"You guys know best."
And when Wallis said, the man's hand reached out.
Bang, cheeks stretched hard with flat hands.
I felt my nose cut and my nose bleeding.
"...... Tzu"
"Don't get on with it. Tell me about those you're chasing."
"... it's a pair of eagle riders who fell on an eagle. Dropped the fire from the sky and crushed the papal realm mentes. They're talking about the Great Kanra. Aren't you two acting together?
"What are you talking about? I'm not on an eagle. He was crossed by birds who couldn't fly, but he was simply an officer who missed the battlefield."
A question mark swirled inside Wallis' head.
Aren't these the guys we're after?
You mean just a wreck?
"... chip. Just like that."
And the devil was all alone.
Apparently, Wallis' reasoning was a hit.
Wallis himself is hitting rear security and not participating, but if there was only one big battle, then it's not surprising that there was about one mutilated soldier who fled to the woods instead of the streets.
It's not strange that there were not just one person, but a hundred and a thousand.
It's just a coincidence that what Wallis was chasing was a skill that he shouldn't have touched.
All I can say about this is that I was unlucky.
"Huhhhhhhhhhhhh! That's too bad!!
Wallis couldn't help laughing when he thought of the funny and tragic situation of the man in front of him.
"Shut up!"
The man punched Wallis in the face again, but if you try from Wallis, the fun is better.
"Ha-ha-ha... ah"
And when he fell to the ground again, Early's body, still falling and lying ten steps away, caught his eye.
"Hey, is the old man there alive?"
Wallis told me to be honest, so help me. I tried to say.
If it's still alive.
"... Oh, is that it? We're going to stab the stop."
"Huh? Why..."
After all, as you can see, is sex cruel?
"If you don't want to kill me, you can go with the stab, but that broke my neck bone. Even if you notice, you'll just suffer and die. Better make it easier now."
"Well, do that for me"
Answer lightly.
For some reason I felt it was true, and to Early's life and death, etc., that would have been better to live with, but it didn't matter if he was dead.
"Oh. That's all I've ever wanted to hear, too. Thank you very much."
With that said, the man covered Wallis' mouth with a cloth and tied him tight behind his head.
I guess I'm not going to make you shout.
I can't even scream and call my people because I'm not going to break the rope in the back.
My leg bones are broken.
Wallis realized that if left unattended, there would be no more helpful shine.
"Nmmm!!
Wallis protests with a full voice.
But no longer did the man make himself as one-sided as he had lost interest, but fished Wallis' luggage and took every back sac.
And then I didn't even look back.
When he crept to Early's place, he put a blade behind his neck and held his breath, leaning back on his body, he cut a cross, cast a spell as if he were a priest, and then fished his luggage.
And when it was over, it disappeared into the woods.
