Chapter 20: The Twins’ Undying Hatred 3
Lou Muge also didn’t know why he was so sleepy. In short, he fell asleep as soon as his eyes closed, and his head went blank.
Until he felt someone pinching his fingers, and a gentle force woke him up.
The moment he regained consciousness, he heard the splash of water, very close.
Lou Muge opened his eyes and sat up straight. Almost immediately, he heard Village Chief Li shouting, “Wake up, wake up, wake up!”
He turned his head, glanced at Ning Shaosi, and heard him say, “The water has risen up.”
Lou Muge didn’t know how long he was asleep. His clothes were dry and his spirit was much better. He stood up and said, “Then let’s keep moving.”
The water had already climbed to their feet, and they would be flooded if they lingered. After Village Chief Li woke up the sleeping villagers, they hurriedly fled into the mountains. There were often wild beasts in the mountains, so the men formed a circle and surrounded the women and children, who walked in the middle.
The breath of despair permeated the air, and the series of wailing never stopped. When one person in one spot got tired, a replacement echoed on the other side. It was as if this was an essential thing on their way to escape.
Lou Muge has never hated mortals so much. Their inferiority was too much, so annoying that he wanted to get out of the illusion realm right there and then. However, on second thought, he thought that it is not only mortals who did so. Weakness differed from one being to another. There were people like them, be it the Immortal Race or the Demon Race.
When they were exhausted from walking, Lou Muge’s ears finally gained a moment of tranquility.
However, in a split second, the Black Dragon coiled in the sky. Thunders burst, and rain poured down again, and his clothes that had dried after a long time were soaked anew. Lou Muge squeezed his heavy sleeve and weakly said, “Directly dropping lightning to zap them to death is so much better. This is really strenuous.”
“Murder by lightning will be recorded in the Immortal Realm,” Ning Shaosi said.
Lou Muge only understood why this Black Dragon was going to such lengths. If it directly triggered a thunderstorm, the thunderstorm would burst into flames, and even the surrounding mountains could be entirely burned. However, this crime would be recorded as the Black Dragon’s doing in the Immortal Realm. However, if a flood drowned everyone, then there was no way they would pursue it. The dragon could call the wind and command the rain, and rain happened wherever it passed, so this was all too normal.
When there were downpours sometimes, and some mortals drowned, the Immortal Realm wouldn’t be bothered.
“There’s a cave ahead!” a shout came from the front.
At first sight of the dawn in the darkness, people instantly burst into joy. A cave meant it could at least shelter them from the rain, and they could also light fire.
The villagers supported each other and entered a cave buried by vines. The hole was extremely narrow, and some fat people could only enter sideways. Fortunately, after going deeper a hundred steps or so, the space became wider, as if they had entered a hollowed out mountain.
The men picked up dry vines and weeds in the cave and made a fire. Soon, there was light in front of everyone’s eyes, but all they saw was that each of them was equally drenched and in a sorry state. Thus, they all leaned towards the warm place one after the other.
The villagers picked more and made the fire burn brighter. With the fire’s sudden brightness, shrieks echoed inside. The crowd found that inside the cave, there were two white stone statues.
The stone statues were about three people high, with the looks of young men. Their eyebrows and eyes were carved incomparably exquisite, although their clothing was slightly rough. Their two palms were folded together, and despite standing in this dim and humid cave, they were as clean as snow.
Still, after a closer look, the villagers found that the two statues were totally identical. The only difference was that one had his eyes open, while the other’s closed.
The stone statue of the boy with his eyes wore a warm smile, as if he was gazing at these mortals who intruded into the cave.
Lou Muge felt that the two stone statues were quite familiar. He walked to the feet of the stone statues and reached out to touch them. Only then did he find that the stone statues might look like they were made from stone, but in fact they were smooth as jade. The white smoke interspersed with its yellowish color, emitting an extremely soft light under the fire light.
He racked his brains, but couldn’t remember where he had seen the two jade statues. While he was in doubt, the villagers behind him knelt down and kowtowed to the two jade statues.
They didn’t know where the two jade statues born out of thin air came from, nor did they know whether the two young men were gods or demons, but they kowtowed and knelt, crying and begging for shelter. They took them as their only hope.
Even Lou Muge was pressed down on his knees by the neck.
It was nothing more than begging the Gods to show themselves, drive away the evil Black Dragon outside, and bring peace and tranquility. For this wish, some people even swore by their lives.
But no matter how much they begged, the two jade statues remained motionless.
Lou Muge’s knees hurt so much that he pouted in disdain. He got up and walked to the side to sit. Ning Shaosi sat down next to him, always quiet.
Lou Muge stared at the two jade statues and muttered, “They’re really familiar, just can’t remember where I’ve seen them.”
He really couldn’t remember it, so he didn’t go into it any further. Seeing that the Guo family kept glancing his way, as if they were dying to charge forward and arrest him, he hurriedly closed his eyes so that he could not see them.
The people in the cave began to prepare food. Some people wandered around the cave, as if looking for other exits. If water got into the cave, they would have a way out.
Lou Muge didn’t know who was roasting, but the aroma of food soon filled the cave. The smell attacked the tip of his nose, and stomach actually grumbled. Even his gut seemingly stretched out of hunger.
He didn’t want to eat those mortal things. He frowned and tried to bear it, but his stomach didn’t stop for a moment. The more he restrained himself, the louder the grumbles, and even an acidic taste flooded his mouth. He felt so uncomfortable. He opened his eyes with anger and punched himself in the stomach, swearing, “Shut up, why are you grumbling?!”
Ning Shaosi didn’t expect him to be a ruthless character who would even beat himself, so he hurriedly held his hand and asked, “What’s the matter?”
“My stomach keeps growling,” Lou Muge replied in annoyance.
Ning Shaosi’s expression turned momentarily tangled, as if holding back a smile, but at the same time, he also fumbled inside his sleeve with his other hand.
Lou Muge found out that this young man was probably wearing a Qiangkun Bag on his sleeve, from which he could take out anything.
Just as he was wondering, he saw him take out a meat pie from it and handed it to him.
There was no fire beside them, and they were sitting far away, so no one found that Ning Shaosi sneaked out some delicious food. In fear that someone would catch a glimpse of the food, Lou Muge finished the meat pie in three bites. Only then did his stomach settle down.
Ning Shaosi felt that this meat pie probably wasn’t enough to feed Lou Muge, so he dug into his sleeves again, but when he took out another pie, he found that the person beside had fallen asleep silently, leaning on all fours against the wall. His sleeping appearance was entirely defenseless.
He pursed his lips and smiled. He stuffed the pie back into his sleeve, and slowly dragged Lou Muge’s head onto his shoulder.
Lou Muge didn’t know how he fell asleep, but as soon as he opened his eyes, he saw the open-eyed jade statue in the cave emitting a bright and gentle light, illuminating the entire cave.
The Shan’an villagers all knelt in front of the jade statue and kowtowed to him, while Village Chief Li cried about the Black Dragon’s evil deeds.
Lou Muge was a little puzzled. Didn’t these people ask for it before?
He scanned the surroundings subconsciously, but he didn’t see Ning Shaosi’s figure. He sat upright, turned his head and looked around, but he still couldn’t find him.
Lou Muge got up from the ground on his hands and knees, and just when he got ready to search for him, he suddenly heard a crisp teenage voice, “I heard all your words.”
He looked up in shock, realizing that the voice came from the jade statue!
The revival of the jade statue shocked the mortal lot. They didn’t dare to take a breath and merely stooped low and knelt on the ground. Lou Muge was the only one left standing. He watched as the glowing jade statue lifted one of its originally folded palms to his eyes, dug off his own pair of eyes. Wrapped in a pale glow, they slowly floated to Village Chief Li’s face.
Village Chief Li hurriedly caught them with both hands.
The young jade statue retained his gentle smile and said to them, “Take these eyes down the mountain. Put one next to the spring, so that the flood will stop, and the other in the center of the village to ward off evil demons and keep you safe and sound.”
Village Chief Li was stunned, holding a pair of glowing jade beads and not knowing how to react. The jade statue said again, “But you have to promise me that after the evil demon is gone, you will return my eyes to me.”
Village Chief Li hurriedly nodded like a chicken pecking rice.
Lou Muge was doubly puzzled. Looking at the people who were expressing their gratitude endlessly, he could not help raising his hand and rubbing his eyes. This rubbing woke him up out of his dream.
He wiped his eyes and opened them, only to find that he was sleeping on Ning Shaosi’s body. The fire in the cave was almost completely extinguished, and occasionally the flames kindled, emitting a faint glow.
Ning Shaosi’s eyes were wide open, filled with sobriety. He turned to Lou Muge and asked, “Did you sleep well?”
Lou Muge sat up, “How long did I sleep?”
“You’ve been asleep for a while,” Ning Shaosi replied.
Lou Muge remembered the dream just now, so he stood up, took out a thick wooden branch from the fire that was still burning, held it and walked towards the jade statue. He stepped over the sleeping people and walked until he was under the jade statue. He stood on tiptoes and raised the torch, then saw that the pair of eyes of the jade statue was gone.
There were only empty eye sockets, accompanied by a kind smile, which turned it inexplicably eerie.
It seemed to be true. Lou Muge inwardly muttered. This jade statue should be spiritual, so he summoned everyone into a dream and gave his eyes to these mortals to save them from the disaster.
He turned around and pushed Village Chief Li, who was still sleeping. With the tip of his toes, he pushed him until the man rolled himself up from the ground.
“What’s going on? What’s going on?!” Village Chief Li was a little flustered, and when he saw Lou Muge, he breathed a sigh of relief, “Chuangen, what are you doing here?”
Lou Muge once again endured the stupid name, pointed to the jade statue and said, “His eyes are gone.”
Village Chief Li raised his head blankly, and immediately sobered up. He hurriedly touched his body, and then took out a pair of jade beads that were as crystal clear as jade and white as snow from his sleeves.
He hollered with his thick voice, bent his knees to the jade statue, flopped down, and thanked the statue resoundingly until his face turned rosy red.
His voice woke up the other people who were still sleeping, and only after they woke up did they realize that the jade statue manifested. They cried and wept along with Village Chief Li, unable to stop themselves from kowtowing to express their gratitude. Everything nice that could be said was uttered.
After the long thanksgiving scene, the crowd began to pack their things, intending to take the pair of jade beads from the young jade statue and go down the mountain.
Looking at all this, an odd thought instantly popped in Lou Muge’s mind.
It seemed that he could guess something about the two brothers.
