Chapter 268 - Temporary asylum
Nick flew towards the city but before he could get close to it a man teleported in front of him. "HOLD THERE STRANGER!" the man yells startling nick. "can i help you?" nick says politely since he doesn't want cause any problems. "state your name and place of origin" the man said stone faced. nick complied "my name is nicholas varia and i was born upon the world of restrus." he said honestly. the man looked to be in thought for a moment before speaking "how is it you have arrived upon ervant?" the man asked seriously. "i was caught in a spatial storm and fell into a rift that lead to this world." nick explained simply. "hmm , when and where did you arrive here?" the man asked serious as ever. "about a year and a half ago on a landmass in that direction." nick said before pointing in the direction he came from. the man thought for a moment before nodding. "what you have said matches with the information we have of the time you have stated and as such you will be given a temporary pass to enter the great red kingdom , however be aware that any infraction of the law will be met with extreme violence and forceful expulsion."
Nick nodded since that made sense "do you have a written list of the laws that i can look over before entering the kingdom in the case there may be some law i am unaware of beyond the standard civilized set?" he asked calmly. the man nodded and took out a scroll with red furnishing before handing it to nick who read it over seriously. just as nick had ȧssumed most of the laws were the same as everywhere else however there were a few that seemed like they would be problematic. pointing at them he asked the man about the situations in which they would apply as well as how his action would be interpreted in said case. the man seemed impressed at nicks willingness to abide by the laws of the kingdom since he was very aware that most foreigners found the laws that he was explaining to be distasteful. there were three laws specifically that tended to cause problems , the first was that in the presence of the royal family one must use a show of respect. the second was that any treasures or inheritances discovered in the kingdom are to be reported to the royal family and if found interesting are to be turned over for a reasonable payment.
The final law though is by far the most often the cause of problems as it was stated that any order received from the royal family are to be followed so long as they are within reason. the man noted that it was this law was the one that nick had asked about the most in detail asking about what would be considered reasonable and what would not. after answering nicks questions the man handed nick a small square plate of metal with several inscription on it that nick looked over before frowning.
