The Devil's Sweetheart

Chapter 278 - Will he stay back?

It might be because of the scandal during the Korea business trip or some other reason she didnot know, but Leena felt restless about Devin going to Norway. Her heart has planted a danger sign in front of her. But, Leena couldn't pinpoint the reason for the unexpected shift in her emotions. She consoled herself, blaming her mood swings.

''Leena!'' His voice suddenly brought her to the world.

''What is it?''

''Let's go. I will drop you at the office.'' Releasing himself from the hug, Devin gently pulled her onto the floor.

''You got an urgent meeting today, and it would be double work to drop me and then go to the office.'' Leena put down Devin's thoughts. ''That cartoon is freely accessible. I will go with him.''

''Are you sure?'' Devin asked for confirmation. If not, he has an urgent meeting, Devin wouldn't have given a choice to her. Dropping Leena to the office and getting a goodbye kiss has become a part of his life which he got addicted to it.

''Certainly positive.'' Leena tiptoed and pecked his lips. ''Now, off you go, Mr. Wang. I need you to earn lots of money and buy shares in all the clothing brands of this world.'' With that, Leena pushed him out of the house.

Shaking his head, Devin left, thinking of ways to stop Leena's obsession with clothes. If Leena has to choose between clothes and him, Devin was scared that she would choose clothes over him.

Brushing the thoughts aside, Devin stepped into the car and made a call to his friend. The moment he lifted the call, Devin spoke up without giving the other person a chance to speak. ''I will be out of station for a week. I want you to keep an eye on Leena.''

''Bastard! You call up only when you need my help?'' Kurt's flaring voice pierced into Devin's ears. ''Why don't you ask me if I am doing well at least once? You always talk about that crazy narcissist.''

''My wife is not a narcissist. She is just better than everyone else.'' Devin amorously gloated about Leena. As a husband, it's righteousness to support his wife.

''You think in that way?'' To annoy his friend, Kurt decided to play with Devin's weakness. ''Listen up, Vincy. Your wife got a narcissist personality disorder. It's a sporadic condition where the patient is left alone, and everyone else is treated.''

''Care to repeat it? I can record and send it to my wife.'' A warning was evident in Devin's tone. It is the only way Devin can shut everyone's mouth.

''Wang Devin!''

''Your voice is as loud as Drew.''

Kurt's thoughts immediately shifted from Leena at the mention of Andrew. ''Speaking of that nasty fellow, I almost got a migraine dealing with the two sworn enemies yesterday.'' Kurt went to meet Andrew and Jasper since both live in the same vicinity, and it was a big mistake from his end to try to amend the relationship between them. He had to close his ears to stop listening to their raw curses. ''Why do they fight always? Is something going on between those two?''

''I don't think so,'' Devin stated. Leenavirus is spreading to Kurt also? Devin already knows Jasper and Drew already have someone in their heart, but both are scared to make a move. Even he is curious about the cause of their fight.

''I wished to throw the two of them into the prison for at least a day.'' With a sigh, Kurt said. ''Leaving that aside, why are you keeping a solid focus on Leena? Is something the matter?''

''I will tell you when the time comes. But for now_.''

''We will keep your wife safe. Happy?'' Kurt knew something is going on in Devin's life, but he can't force his friend.

''Thanks, Kurt. If there is nothing else, I will end the_

''I have one more thing to talk with you.'' Kurt began. ''You are putting your guards down by shifting all your attention on Leena. Do you know the consequences? You will slowly become a target to many, Vincy.'' Kurt has absolutely no idea what's going on in Devin's life, but one thing was sure. His friend is slowly paving the way to his enemies. If this continues, he has to take the matter into his hands soon.

''You are worrying over nothing. I can take care of myself,'' Devin assured him. The psycho's focused entirely on Leena, and if he slightly loosens up his tight around Leena, he doesn't want to imagine the worst consequences.

''Alright. If you need help, call me immediately.'' Kurt said. ''I will watch over Leena.''

''Thanks, Kurt,'' Devin was relieved when he ended the call.

....

Leena, Reese, and Nick stepped into the office. Lately, Carrot is busy touring all the houses, and she rarely has time to spend with Leena. Once again, her office was filled with clients, and Leena has no choice except to accept it.

Leena ended her morning sessions, and when she got a little break, she straight away pushed open the door of Nick's room.

''If it is shopping, I am not free,'' Nick added, without lifting his head. After he started working for Leena, he got ample time for himself because Leena rarely disturbs him. She has even designed a room with a cozy environment and comes to talk with him whenever she is free. So, he is free to think of his future which he has neglected.

''I need to talk with you, Mr, Nickolodeon,'' Leena spoke up with a taunting verse.

''What now?'' Nick questioned back, lifting his gaze.

''Did you and Adney hack into my mobile and sent weird images to all the family members?'' She calmly asked.

For a second, Nick stiffened but quickly composed himself. ''I_I don't know what you are talking about.''

Leena punched on the table with her fists, making Nick gulp in fear.

''I_I didnot_''

''Do you think I am a dumbass!'' Leena yelled, cutting his words off. ''Writing cheap lines of code, using outdated apps, and you call yourself a hacker with your bog-standard skills?''

''B_bog-standard skills, you say?'' Pointing his finger at Leena, Nick screamed. What is she thinking of her?

''Worse than that! Next time, if you two want to prank, use your brains, and delete the messages' history at least, and tell that dingleberry to use his head.'' Pushing her hair aside like an empress, Leena walked out of the room, leaving Nick speechless.

''How did she know that we hacked into her mobile? She must have hired a professional hacker.'' Nick muttered, getting back into his business.

....

A weak passed in a blink of an eye. On every Sunday, Leena would count rainbows, but today she is counting thunderstorms because the day has finally come, Devin has to leave for Norway.

''If you complete the work beforehand, don't hesitate to come back.'' Leena tightly squeezed Devin's body until it left with no space.

''I will definitely try, Sweetheart. Eat properly. Sleep in time. Don't stress yourself with work.'' He gently c.a.r.e.s.sed her back, listing out the priorities. It was taking all his self-control to leave Leena alone, but work also matters.

''I will.'' That was all Leena managed to say.

''I will miss you a lot.'' Kissing her forehead, Devin affectionately grazed Leena's arms. A smile etched on his face as his hands accidentally bushed over her bracelet. She is treasuring it like a baby ever since he put it on her wrist. In the same way, he is also cherishing the Watch she gifted. Speaking of it, he has utterly forgotten to wear it today. ''Sweetheart, can you bring my Watch?'

''Alright.'' Leena made herself into the bedroom and searched in the walk-in closet. Picking the Watch from the box, Leena rushed out of the room. In her hurry, suddenly, her ankle twisted, and eventually, Leena tripped and landed on her stomach. The Watch flew in the air and fell on the ground with impact.

CRASH!

''Owww! My leg.'' Cursing at herself, Leena slowly lifted her upper body to search for the Watch. When she found the broken glass of Devin's treasured piece, her soul left the body. ''Why did it broke suddenly?'' Her bottom lips quivered in plight, and her eyes bleed with pain. ''Is it implying something?''

Leena crawled towards it, picked the broken Watch, and examined it. She could quickly fix the glass or bring a new Watch, but it's not the only thing that is bothering her but the timing it happened.

Leena was scared that something might happen to Devin as it happened in Korea. She trusts her intuition because it never lies to her. But she can't keep bugging Devin just because of her instincts. Many lives depend on him, and she knows he would only extend unless it is necessary. But why is her heart screaming danger for Devin? ''If I ask Devin not to go, will he stay back?'' She whispered to herself in uncertainty.
