The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2165 - Final Chapter of the Expedition (Part 3)
The failure of a Khorne warband did not affect the subsequent counterattack of the Red Corsairs' defense forces; their numbers were even greater than before, and they brought a large number of daemon engines: Maulerfiends, Forgefiends, Defilers, Blood Slaughterers—
They swarmed out of the torn, massive hatchways like a tide of profane flesh and twisted steel, interspersed with Chaos Space Marines in scarlet armor.
Huron deployed about 2,000 Chaos Space Marines and countless mortal slaves on this derelict ship. Although the number of Chaos Space Marines wasn't particularly high, they were supported by a large number of daemon engines, and even daemons themselves.
"Glory to the Blood God!"
A daemon wielding a burning blade roared loudly, the painful screams of the mortal slaves disappearing as they were devoured by the hungry mouths that appeared in the blade.
Suddenly, the sword in its hand dimmed and rapidly weathered away, revealing a human-like look of astonishment on the daemon's face, before a huge weapon came whistling down and smashed it to ashes.
Accompanied by neat, heavy footsteps, a wall of Deheg Terminators stepped over the corpses of Khorne Berserkers, advancing simply towards the hatchway, facing the surging tide of daemons and heretics, while the Second Company's warriors on either side used various heavy weapons, including but not limited to plasma guns, meltaguns, plasma rocket launchers, and heavy bolters, to continuously fire.
And in front of the Terminator shield wall stood a tall figure, surrounded by twelve almost equally tall, emotionless machines.
As Sothar Yeng watched the tidal wave of daemon engines, he felt some doubt in his heart. What power could provide Huron with such a number of daemon engines in such a short time?
What exactly is that mysterious backer?
Although some doubts swirled in his mind, his pace did not stop; instead, he charged towards the daemon tide alone.
Countless daemons and those fallen engines shrank back before him, his gaze passing over their deformed heads, focusing on the strongest existence among this group: it resembled an armored heavy tank driven by six piston-like legs, each step causing a brief earthquake, mixing the rust and pitted metal fragments on its body with crude oil as it dripped down, thick smoke and steam gurgling from every joint and crevice, the body pieced together from armor plates seething with unceasing rage and roars.
A humanoid figure sat atop that massive metal body, like a vicious knight riding a mountainous warhorse.
A Soul Grinder. This wasn't the first time Sothar Yeng had dealt with this thing.
Sothar Yeng stepped forward, his eyes piercing through the smoke. The opponent had ruby-like muscles, a narrow, buffalo-like head with a pair of savage, curved horns growing to the left and right, its hands replaced by crab-claw-like steel pincers, the edges of the opening and closing blades constantly flashing with electric sparks. Even from nearly a hundred meters away, Sothar Yeng could still feel the powerful energy radiating from its scarred shell.
The thing bound to this Soul Grinder isn't an ordinary daemon, it's likely a Daemon Prince.
What power could make a Daemon Prince willingly bound to a Soul Grinder?
The opponent also noticed Sothar Yeng, its eyes fixed on the target, filled with greed and desire.
"Cursed one, you have trespassed into your death ground."
Sothar Yeng didn't bother wasting words with the opponent, directly plunging into the enemy ranks, Ignis sweeping across with a roar, instantly breaking the legs of a Defiler engine, stepping on the opponent's body, and heading straight for the Soul Grinder in the formation.
The daemon engine also refused to be outdone, waving its giant claws straight at Sothar Yeng.
Sothar Yeng didn't use Ignis, but instead met the opponent with a punch. The difference in the size of their fists was more than tenfold, but it was Sothar Yeng who hit the Soul Grinder hard.
The daemon engine staggered from the blow, desperately trying to maintain its balance under the heavy impact, while its claw was already twisted and deformed.
Sothar Yeng launched another charge, gripping Ignis with both hands and sweeping it across, piercing through the daemon engine's armor plates, devastatingly melting its chassis and parts, completely ending its attempt to swing its claws again.
"Oh no! You are a a a—ARGH!!!"
The daemon wailed as it fell, at which point the Mourner also bombarded the approaching daemon engines, the gauss annihilators on their arms erupting with eerie, ghostly green arcs of electricity, the area hit on the daemon engines directly disappearing, metal and corrupted flesh instantly vaporizing into an atomic state, then collapsing and disintegrating internally, as if a miniature black hole had appeared in its heart.
Sothar Yeng came to the defeated daemon engine and tore apart the molten metal wreckage with another blow, the metal legs stacked together like broken twigs, foul blood gurgling from the chassis that had been mostly torn away. The daemon engine tried its last bit of strength to lift the last arm that could still move, attempting to snap him in two—but this was meaningless, Ignis was ruthlessly nailed into its chest.
The terrifying soul black hole annihilated the daemon without even a roar, leaving only the rapidly rusting metal frame.
But Sothar Yeng did not celebrate the brief victory, turning around and rushing into the enemy ranks to continue his fierce killing, tearing off pipelines, crushing pistons, launching one unstoppable, fierce attack after another.
"Gods!"
A Red Corsair stopped in his tracks, seeing a Defiler being kicked and crushed in the head like a toy by that towering giant, so he raised his arm, even though the muzzle of his bolter aimed at Sothar Yeng was shaking violently.
"This is—"
A blur flashed before his eyes, and the giant in Terminator armor had fallen in front of him. Before the Red Corsair could react, Sothar Yeng reached out and crushed his head.
Then he threw the headless corpse away with force, knocking down another Red Corsair.
"Gods above! Hold on! Hold on for me! No retreating!"
The commanding Red Corsair leader roared hoarsely, even though his voice was also trembling. After all, who wouldn't tremble when they saw a person and a dozen strange machines beat an entire daemon engine army to pieces, and even instantly kill the Daemon Prince Soul Grinder, who could be called the strongest among them?
Boom—
Suddenly, something smashed in front of him, it was the torn head of a Forgefiend, already covered with a layer of frost.
He swallowed, then suddenly bent over, something whistling past and crashing to the ground with a loud noise.
When he turned his head to look, he saw that it was a Chaos Terminator who had been cut in half at the waist, also his most trusted guard.
"Damn it."
Is that monster really a Space Marine? Can a Space Marine really possess such power?
Although he is indeed very large, an unprecedented size, unbelievably large, as large as the legendary—
Primarch.
But where are there any Primarchs in this world?
In their minds, the era of the Primarchs had long ended!
