The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2339 - Night Tracking
Saul's return caused a small stir within the warband. Many warriors were curious as to why the instructor had suddenly disappeared during the Great Maelstrom expedition, but Saul didn't explain it in detail, only saying that he had gone to perform a certain task. Savitar's return, however, was silent. He didn't disturb the Eleventh Company, only finding Talos and Cassander.
"I didn't expect that we would meet again in this kind of situation, First Captain."
Inside the activity hall belonging to the Eleventh Company, Cassander looked at Savitar, who had been talking to Talos alone for more than an hour, with a complicated expression.
The hall, filled with various tactical simulation equipment and sculpting tools used by the warriors for their daily emotional cultivation, only had three solitary figures maintaining their postures under the dim light.
Talos sat on a long bench, leaning against the wall, his feet resting on an unfinished head sculpture. Savitar sat on the Thinker, his arms crossed. Cassander stood straight five meters in front of him. None of the three were wearing armor, and there was a strange atmosphere between them.
"Ha, Cassander, were you worried all along? After all, when you ran away, I said that when I saw you again, I would personally cut off your limbs, peel off your skin, and then take out your internal organs."
Cassander shrugged.
"My helmet was damaged at the time, and I didn't hear what you were saying."
Savitar smirked.
"Then you hear it now."
"So, do you want to kill me now?"
"Now, forget it. It's meaningless."
After that, the atmosphere fell into a brief silence, with only the sound of Talos's fingers lightly tapping the metal bench.
After an unknown amount of time, Cassander spoke:
"Savitar, why?"
Savitar chuckled and asked:
"When you killed your own brothers, they should have asked, too. How did you answer?"
Cassander narrowed his eyes.
"I don't think we are in the same situation, let alone the same kind of people."
Savitar tutted twice, left the Thinker, walked to a display stand, and picked up a plaster sculpture of the Eighth Legion's symbol from the past, with a line engraved on it: Long Live the Night Lord.
Turning to the back, Savitar saw the name Leelin and looked at Talos.
"Is this the kid you told me about before? The one modified with Serylion's gene-seed?"
Talos just hummed, without answering.
"To be honest, that scumbag Serylion shouldn't have passed on his gene-seed. You're still too sentimental. Maybe this kid will cause big trouble in the future."
"Gene-seed doesn't determine anything."
It was Cassander who spoke instead.
Savitar shook his head and put the work back on the display stand.
"So sometimes fate is just like this, a bat defects to become a raven, and a raven also defects to become a bat. The expedition and rebellion from beginning to end are a joke. But what you said is indeed very convincing, gene-seed doesn't determine anything."
"First Captain, you still haven't given an answer."
"Why should I give an answer? No one here has the right to ask me to answer anything."
Cassander sighed softly.
"Are you really going to abandon the Legion? As long as you are willing to come forward, the Legion can be reunited and recast into a blade of justice. Although you are unwilling to say it, I can still infer that your position is not much different from mine."
Savitar walked up to him and poked him in the chest.
"Cassander, no matter what, you are not qualified to mention the word Legion again, let alone point fingers at me. Also, don't be presumptuous in speculating my position. Do you think you know everything by following Corax? The Lord of the Raven Guard himself is probably just a confused egghead. You know nothing."
Cassander seemed very calm about this, and just joked:
"But he has a good opinion of you."
"So, what do you want to prove?"
"Even those who are completely fallen, including the Third Legion, are still a Legion after all, Sair. The Eighth Legion is completely finished, and is completely destroyed like the Sixteenth and Twentieth Legions. However, there are still many people in the Legion who despise the power of Chaos. The Legion still has a chance to return from its lost path and recast our oaths before we were corrupted."
Savitar grinned and shook his head.
"Return from the lost path, Cassander, do you know what you are talking about? The Imperium, whether in the past or now, will never tolerate traitors. If you really want to insist on your justice, then you should kill every member of the Eighth Legion, kill them all, because everyone in the Eighth Legion is born guilty."
"Sair, you are too extreme."
"You are the first person to say I am extreme, but I am just stating the facts."
"Then what are you persisting in until now for?"
"That's my business."
At this time, Cassander also seemed to get angry. He nodded, and said with a fake smile:
"Then very good, I will take on the responsibility of rebuilding the Legion. You better not interfere."
"Oh, oh, oh, Legion Master, my respects."
Savitar put on a show and gave a comical bow. Talos finally stood up at this time.
"I don't even know what you two are arguing about. Savitar is no longer willing to interfere in the affairs of the Legion. Cassander, you don't need to force people to join. We don't need to care about what he wants to do. Everyone has their own choice. We are standing here now, our identities and positions are equal. No one is superior or subordinate. Everyone is an independent individual. The only thing I want to say is that we don't need to bring what we have experienced to those children. Let the things that have passed go. Whether it is betrayers, or the Raven Prince, or the Soul Hunter, they are all old things that should have been buried in the ground to rot. The future should be left to the people of the future to decide. We have no right to decide what path they want to take."
Talos's words silenced the other two. After a moment, Savitar said slowly:
"Can pure white flowers really bloom in the corrupt mud?"
"Leave the results to the sunlight."
Savitar asked meaningfully:
"But what if this sun falls again?"
Talos smiled slightly.
"Then leave it to fate."
After speaking, he sighed softly.
"We've been talking for so long, and we haven't even said the main thing. I want to get the Nightfall back."
Cassander and Savitar had different expressions after hearing this. Savitar was lost in thought, while Cassander seemed quite surprised.
In the end, Cassander spoke first:
"I heard that this ship was finally taken away by Jando Slyvoke. This guy has now become a Daemon Prince. The last time he appeared in the material universe was two or three hundred years ago. He designed to kill the Dark Angels' former Grand Master Nabelius, but was finally exiled by Azrael. Now he should still be hiding in some corner of the Warp. I'm afraid it won't be easy to find."
However, Savitar said it very directly.
"What are you looking for it for?"
"It will be useful later."
This was hardly an answer. Savitar pondered for a moment and said:
"Finding it is impossible, but there is a way to trick it out. This requires something that you should be very familiar with, Talos."
In just one second, Talos said the answer.
"The Night Crown."
Then he nodded.
"No problem, then where is the trap set?"
"Ulan Huda, the Night Crown plus Ulan Huda, that bastard will definitely not be able to resist such temptation, but beforehand, it will definitely find a demon or wizard to perform several rounds of divination, perhaps it can be like this."
