The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2384 - Hungry Wolf Raids the Nest
At the end of the deep underground passage formed by the bombing-induced rift, stood two black metal doors, engraved with ancient alien patterns, flanked by massive obelisks. Their surfaces were almost smooth but riddled with circuits, forming a powerful denial field against orbital bombardment, which also drained most of the tomb's defense system energy output.
The 'natives' of this place had long been awakened, desperately trying to eliminate the invading enemy.
The legions of metal phantoms seemed endless, their bodies shimmering in the faint green light, their venomous hisses transforming into orderly steps, converging into a cold torrent.
Da-da-da—
The Wolf Guard had already begun firing, the storm of bolter rounds mixed with the roars of the Wulfen. These cursed warriors followed their Wolf Lord, forming hunting packs, destroying the defenses on the battlements as instructed by the Wolf King. Now they were sharpening their claws, waiting to tear apart those soulless metal beings.
Breaking through the walls did not mean unobstructed passage. Leman Russ knew better than anyone that the bolter rounds fired by his warriors were like nothing to the silent Necron army. They simply walked the avenue, unconcerned by those falling around them.

Of course, Leman Russ didn't mind that their shooting wasn't very effective.
Because his presence here was essentially a cover, buying time for someone else.
Suddenly, the air crackled, followed by lightning and beams of light shooting towards the battlements, but the alien defenses now served as cover, negating their attacks. Only a few Wolves were hit.
Watching the Wulfen corpse on the ground, half its body vaporized, Leman raised his head, opened his lips, and let out a high-pitched roar, then raised a silver skull encased in a black sphere, and hurled it into the alien ranks.
It was a special vortex grenade, which Leman Russ liked to call the Wolf's Maw.
The Primarch's strength was so immense that he threw the grenade several miles away. As the grenade impacted something, a red vortex formed in the sea of ghostly green. The Necrons around it simply vanished, and as the coverage expanded, massive amounts of metal were sucked into the raging red hole in an instant. Even the huge C'tan shards struggled to resist the pull of the immense energy.
But after 3 seconds, the blackstone energy was activated, and the warp rift was suppressed until it disappeared.
At the same time, a massive metal wraith teleported directly in front of Leman Russ in a burst of phase lightning. It had multi-jointed legs, wielding a huge war scythe, its metal face twisted with unimaginable hatred.
But Leman knocked away the opponent's weapon with a single punch, then stepped forward, raised his greatsword, and brought it down, splitting the wraith in half amidst sparks and metallic screeches.
As the two halves of the Canoptek Reanimator slid from the black battlements, swarms of tomb wraiths filled its place. Like black-robed specters, they swarmed towards these life-bearing intruders like carrion birds. As they moved quickly, their snake-like lower bodies stretched exaggeratedly, granting them extreme speed. Sharp phase claws and crackling whip-like coils yearned to destroy everything they touched.
The Wolf Guard silently stepped forward to protect their father, without thinking, without hesitating even for half a second, their gleaming battleaxes moving in geometrically perfect arcs, the metallic bodies cleaving like light clouds upon contact with the sharp edges.
In moments, the metal ghost army was scattered by the hacking blows.
But like the real ocean, the brief retreat of the waves was just a prelude to a more violent surge. Led by several Ophydian Destroyers, the cold wave surged onto the battlements with metallic friction, and two ancient Wolf Guard were instantly annihilated in the tide of phase blades and claws.
Large numbers of enemies had reached the ramparts. The howling of the Wulfen and the sound of metal breaking formed a strange chorus. Their huge claws tore through the soulless metal bodies as if tearing leather, but their bodies were also easily annihilated by gauss beams. However, the Wulfen possessed incredible agility and alertness, and knew how to cooperate with each other and utilize the terrain, but if this continued, the invaders' numerical disadvantage would be quickly amplified. If the masters of the tomb were to fully awaken, even a Primarch would be overwhelmed.
Leman Russ saw a Wulfen pin down a tomb wraith, only for two others to sweep in from its sides, driving their claw blades into its ribs, then bisecting and dismembering it.
The Wolf King roared and lunged forward like a tree felled by the wind.
The frost-covered greatsword flashed in his hands like lightning, as fast as an arrow through the clouds, piercing the enemies' cold chests and wailing faces.
The enraged enemy forces turned their weapons against him, the ghostly green flames illuminating their hideous metal visages.
Leman Russ was like a mad wolf among sheep, unstoppable. Countless broken metal pieces were thrown into the sky by his blades and fists. Whether it was a massive Canoptek Spyder or a swift Destroyer, no matter how frantic the enemy, none could withstand a single blow in his presence, as easily as a wolf crushed its prey's bones with its teeth.
Despite each breath resulting in hundreds of kills, the Primarch still couldn't deter these fearless enemies. They were simply carrying out their objective, relentlessly pursuing Leman Russ, like a swarm of leeches driven mad by the scent of blood.
This immediately reduced the pressure on the Wolves on the battlements, allowing them to begin clearing enemies and executing the Wolf King's tactics.
The Wolf King had led them to the desired location: the massive archway of the Necron tomb entrance, where explosives had been pre-planted.
As the Wolf Guard launched rockets, Leman Russ turned and jumped to the right as the first stone cracked, finding the designated safe zone. Around him, a series of violent explosions rang out, and the magnificent fortress collapsed.
Huge black stones collided and fell violently, grinding the pursuing enemy into fragments. Even the agile tomb wraiths, after successive phase teleports, were knocked to the ground by the spinning bricks and crushed by heavier stones.
"Not bad at all."
Leman Russ looked at the billowing smoke and dust, but swallowed the rest of his words.
Accompanied by dense lightning and beams of light, the accumulated stones and debris were swept away, and a massive, majestic, floating obelisk emerged from behind the smoke and dust.
Beneath the giant obelisk, a vast Necron legion stood in neat formation, rifles, swords, and dark shields as still as a winter forest, their skeletal faces only showing cold indifference, hollow and emotionless, devoid of thought and desire, the oppression of death itself, the malice returning from the underworld.
