The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2469 - Savage Strike
A moment later, the artillery fire began to extend, and a wall seemingly composed of countless fireflies illuminated the gray evening.
Immediately afterward, flashes of light erupted from the smoke, blasting away a group of Astra Militarum soldiers and creating large holes in the Leman Russ tanks at the front.
The seething, clamorous soldiers seemed to collapse for a moment, but with the help of the Commissar's bullets, they quickly recovered from their shock and continued to advance.
At this moment, Janick heard a familiar roar again. He looked up and saw a Valkyrie squadron speeding across the battlefield. The rocket nests under their wings spat out streams of fire, slamming into the distant earth, instantly sending mud flying, sparks scattering, and a few slender, burning corpses being blasted into the sky.
But as the Valkyries turned to prepare for a second bombing run, a disgusting green laser shot from somewhere on the ground, crackling as it pierced through one of the Valkyries.
The aircraft exploded in mid-air, its burning wreckage raining down on the soldiers below.
Janick cursed and spat, and under his orders, two artillery regiments fired repeatedly, weakening the foul alien magic, while the soldiers at the front fell in heaps under the increasingly dense hail of shuriken and laser fire from the enemy.
"Perhaps we should request more air support," an adjutant said cautiously, watching the Valkyries rapidly depart.
"Using Valkyries for an aerial drop would allow troops to bypass the enemy's firing line."
"We don't need it!"
Janick sharply rejected him.
"We don't need any noisy pilots from the Navy to achieve our victory! This is our line! Let the soldiers pick up their guns or bayonets; the time has come!"
At this moment, he noticed that the artillery fire had stopped, so he roared into the vox.
"Who told you to stop? I said to keep the fire raining down like a continuous storm, by the Throne, I mean a continuous storm of fire! Do I need to teach you how to fire with bullets?!"
As the artillery fire resumed, Janick smiled coldly.
Yes, nothing felt more pleasant than the sound of cannons firing.
Just as he was preparing to continue observing, something seemed to hit the rocks near the bunker, making a pattering sound.
"Assassins!!!"
The guards roared loudly, and the Ogryn bodyguards with shields also roared, overturning the table and waving their shock mauls to create cover. Janick cursed and quickly drew his pistol.
Just as he was searching for a target, the head of a staff officer next to him suddenly flew off. Janick immediately dove forward and turned to aim his gun at the bunker's observation slit.
An alien cloaked in green had somehow climbed up. The blades in his hands were stained with blood, and his narrow, alien face under the hood was glaring at him fiercely.
As the alien lunged at him, he immediately opened fire, but the alien was truly ghostly in his movements, and his bullets only hit afterimages.
At the same time, Janick cursed when he realized the alarm that should have already been ringing hadn't gone off yet. Whoever was responsible, if they survived the next few minutes, he would have them all replaced.
But when he turned his head, he saw a severed hand sliding down the wall. The staff officers who had tried to reach the alarm were all lying on the ground, their heads separated from their bodies. All of this had happened in just a few seconds, and then the alien lunged again.
Fortunately, the alien's blade didn't hit him but struck the Ogryn bodyguard's shield, sending sparks flying. The loyal bodyguards immediately formed a wall around him.
"Kill these pointy-eared vermin!"
Janick roared. Fortunately, the commotion had been loud enough; he could already hear the guards' hurried footsteps and curses.
But suddenly, he heard something else and abruptly looked up.
He saw the grating above being kicked open, and a lithe figure leaped in, emerald-toed sandals landing on the head of a stunned Ogryn. Then, arching one leg, she spun with absolute precision in the breeze, firing her pistol at an Ogryn wielding a shock maul.
The shuriken tore through the air, embedding itself in the Ogryn's cheek with a soft, wet, and shattering sound, causing the giant to cry out and stagger backward.
Only then did Janick get his first clear look at the enemy. It seemed to be a female, with black hair tied back, wearing a diadem of vine leaves. Beneath the diadem were unwavering and fearless eyes and sharp emerald eyes. The lower half of her face was covered by an exotic veil, but the segmented emerald armor clearly showed her identity as a warrior. These beautiful, form-fitting armor pieces not only protected her body but also further accentuated a unique physical allure, and between the armor segments, glimpses of fair skin could be seen.
On her shoulders, she wore a short cloak, which blurred her form, as if Janick's eyes were deceiving him.
The Ogryn Smart-Head roared in frustration, desperately trying to drive away the enemy with his weapon to protect his officer.
But the beautiful and savage Eldar woman chuckled and easily dodged the clumsy creature's attack.
Then another Ogryn charged at her from behind, raising his maul, ready to smash the slender enemy into paste.
But suddenly, a silver streak slashed through the air, piercing the Ogryn bodyguard's helmet, causing him to slump to the side in a grotesque manner. It turned out that the dual-blade Eldar had thrown one of his weapons at some point, and then he turned and rushed towards the door, leaving behind a ground littered with corpses he had slain, throwing a grenade out the door.
Accompanied by the unique whooshing sound of the filament grenade, a series of tragic cries and wails echoed from outside.
Seizing the opportunity, the female savage Eldar leaped up, her pistol aimed at Janick.
However, Smart-Head immediately blocked with his body, and Janick fired his laspistol from behind, forcing the female Eldar to swerve aside with incredible agility.
But she had attracted enough attention. A male Aeldari wearing simple spiritbone armor, with a muscular physique covered in tattoos and a stag-horned helmet, suddenly appeared in a ripple of air, flying towards Janick, who was only left with two Ogryn bodyguards.
The Ogryn protecting Janick's back swung his maul in a spinning motion to meet the attack, but his movements were too slow in front of the agile attacker. The male Aeldari extended his Singing Spear, the silver spear inlaid with shimmering gems and mysterious metal carvings transforming into a shooting star in a humming sound, piercing through the Ogryn's lower jaw and striking his slow brain directly.
At the same time, the female Aeldari attacked Smart-Head, firing a series of shuriken, several of which pierced Smart-Head's tree-trunk-like thick legs.
Although unsteady on his feet, the loyal bodyguard stubbornly held up his shield.
However, his movements soon ceased. A silver spearhead pierced directly through his helmet, penetrating from the back of his head to his mouth.
"Officer..."
After mumbling a few words, the last Ogryn also fell.
And Janick had run towards the door, but he was immediately pinned to the ground by the silver spear like a pinned specimen.
