The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2493 - Barzaft
"Oh, delightful. It seems my lowly bitch, Mirielle Sabatiel, hasn't been wasting time in other men's beds, but has actually been taking care of business."
The voice from within the bedchamber had a gritty quality, but faced with such lewd insults, the fallen Sister merely offered a bewitching smile.
"My Lord, you have lost a small toy, so I thought you might need something to cheer you up."
"Klauddechel certainly deserved his status as a toy. If it weren't for the orders from up above, I would have been reluctant to let him go so easily."
"Master, why don't we go and acquire those Aeldari souls ourselves? Their souls are so ~"
As she spoke of the Aeldari, the fallen Sister emitted a seductive tremor, and a black, proboscis-like tongue, like that of a Slaaneshi Fiend, flicked from her mouth.
"So sweet ~"
"That is not your concern. Come here."
Mirielle Sabatiel lowered her head and crawled forward on her hands and knees, disappearing into the bedchamber.
Shortly after, a warrior clad in jewel-encrusted armor entered the bridge and announced:
"Lord Balzaphart, the emissary Kashaw wishes to see you."
"Let him in."
Soon, a Noise Marine in pink armor, bearing a banner on his back, entered the bridge and approached the throne.
His sensitive ears quickly picked up the sounds, and he noticed a figure kneeling before the occupant of the throne, a woman.
"Lord Balzaphart, you certainly have a keen interest."
"Kashaw, speak your piece."
"I bring the Exemplar's orders."
"Orders?"
Balzaphart scoffed dismissively.
"Kashaw, do you misunderstand me? I take orders from no one. Eldrad requested my cooperation, requested, do you understand? Or do I need to crack open your skull and instill some more precise language skills into you?"
Undaunted by the threat, the Noise Marine merely responded with a grotesque laugh.
"Then let us call it cooperation. The Exemplar has received your message. The Aeldari Phoenix Lord has completed a successful rescue, which will destroy him from arrogance. You will lead your warband to the Pedes Rift. Soon, the T'au will launch an attack on an Aeldari world, and that Aeldari king will surely go to its aid. Your task is to delay him."
Upon hearing this, the other party was silent for a moment, then chuckled:
"Why should I listen to Eldrad?"
"Because it is the Primarch's command, and it will bring you countless soulstones."
"Do not use the Primarch to pressure me. For the sake of your little life, do not say it a second time."
"I am merely delivering a message, Lord Balzaphart. However, many in the legion covet the head of that Aeldari Phoenix Lord, such as the Undying One."
"Spare me the clever tricks. It will be mine."
As he spoke, the figure within the bedchamber used his left hand to press down on the fallen Sister's head, then gently waved his right hand, and the curtains parted.
Seated on an "massage chair" made of writhing human limbs was a Chaos Lord. He had pale red skin, a narrow face with eerie, four eyes, and white, short hair tied behind his head. He wore a suit of ancient power armor, but all the former "old" symbols had been replaced. The motley colors made it seem as if it had been lying in a vat full of chemicals for centuries, turning the once-clean ceramite shell into a complex shape from the warp. Colorful crystalline debris even grew out of his shoulders and backpack.
Beside his throne rested a uniquely shaped longsword, indicating his past as a Court Blade.
"Explain clearly what game Eldrad is playing. I have played along with him once. Unless there is a better reason, I will not continue to play along."
"The Exemplar has sought some allies. They will incite conflict between the T'au and the Aeldari. That Phoenix Lord will surely go to the rescue, and when he leaves, the Eternal Court will be destroyed."
Balzaphart's face showed a look of sudden understanding.
"I see. So, in other words, I wasted a toy merely because Eldrad wanted to test whether that Phoenix Lord would personally come to the rescue."
"That is possible."
"Eldrad is truly as much of a bastard as ever. In that case, the price must increase."
"Oh?"
A smile appeared on the Chaos Lord's face, and he moved the hand that was pressing on the fallen Sister's head. As her head began to sway gently, that wicked, sloshing sound rang out once more.
"I want that Eternal Queen."
A scarlet tongue licked across thin lips, and the Chaos Lord's eyes gleamed with a burning light.
"Only this reward is reasonable."
The Noise Marine shrugged.
"I cannot decide on this matter, but I will report it to the Exemplar. However, you must begin your operation immediately."
"Understood. The fleet will set sail at once. There is no more fun to be had here."
After Balzaphart finished speaking, he waved his hand gently, and the curtains fell again. He grabbed the kneeling Sister by the hair and dragged her onto himself. The fallen Sister immediately threw back her head and let out a piercing cry, her hands hanging limply behind her.
As the lewd cries rang out, the Noise Marine had already turned and headed for the door, and a more twisted smile appeared on his distorted face, seemingly mocking someone's overestimation of their abilities.
Before long, the fleet left orbit, leaving behind a world full of pain and torment.
It was not until a month later that the Imperial Navy, having received a distress signal, arrived belatedly. However, they only discovered a world corrupted beyond redemption. Aside from various twisted cults of the dark gods and madmen, nothing remained. At the request of the accompanying Inquisitor, the Navy carried out an Exterminatus order on the world, purifying all life on the planet with virus bombs, and the main hive city was bombarded into nothing but ruins.
The Inquisition ultimately attributed the tragedy of Pombalou to an attack by a Chaos warband. Information about the world's governor was difficult to ascertain due to the deaths of all those who knew. The Inquisition could only determine from the recovered information that the governor seemed to have launched an expedition, taking away most of the Astra Militarum stationed in the system. This left the entire world with almost no defensive capabilities. The direction of his expedition was not recorded, and the expedition fleet remained missing.
In the end, the Governor of Pombalou was found guilty of dereliction of duty and abuse of power, and the expeditionary force was marked as missing, pending further investigation.
However, the Inquisition's attention had already turned to the Chaos warband that attacked Pombalou, and the matter of the Governor's expeditionary force could only be put aside, awaiting future leads.
Once it was determined that the Chaos corruption had been cleared and the environment had been restored to meet the most basic survival needs, the planet Pombalou would be re-colonized. The Imperium never lacked population, and it certainly did not lack people in need of relocation.
