The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2646 - Deathly Temple
After his opponent surrendered, Bakhram put away the Broken Horned Doomstar and said softly:
"Thank you for the match."
After a moment of respite, the Librarian of the Relictors Chapter suddenly said in a deep voice:
"You are... an Untouchable!!!!!"
As soon as these words came out, the Relictors Chapter was in an uproar, but Bakhram nodded calmly.
"Not entirely. I have a device in my armor that can achieve a similar effect."
"This, this kind of technology, I've only heard of it existing in certain secret organizations."
"Yes, secret."
"I understand."
"So, Brother Moore, is my argument valid?"
The Librarian was speechless and could only silently walk back to his brothers.
Bakhram came to Artukus, who looked complicated, and said seriously:
"Chapter Master Artukus, I believe your Chapter is loyal. I just hope you can understand that using the enemy's power against the enemy is the worst choice. Humanity is a great species with wisdom and solutions. Don't go down a dead end. There have been many cases proving that this path is not feasible. Why do you keep running into it? The Emperor has given us many gifts. The Librarians are enough to fight against the Warp enemies with their own power and will. There is no need to borrow any external force."
Artukus raised a hand.
"We have already paid the price for our past actions, and we will correct our mistakes."
Bakhram looked at him. When he fought the Librarian, he used Grey Matter to sense whether there was Chaos corruption on him. Now he has the result.
At least the Relictors Chapter's Librarian does not seem to be corrupted.
"Of course, I will not doubt the loyal battle-brothers, but to become an observer of the Brotherhood of Suffering, it requires the consent of two members. Lord Mazal clearly still has concerns."
"I invited him to meet, but I didn't get a response."
Bakhram noticed that Arash was looking at him, knowing what he was thinking. The relationship between the Penitent and the Astral Knights has always been close. At this time, the only one who can persuade Mazal is probably him, the Captain of the Astral Knights.
Now that he's involved, he had no choice but to nod:
"How about this, I'll talk to Chapter Master Mazal and see what his concerns are."
Artukus showed a grateful expression.
"That's great, Captain Bakhram."
Twenty minutes later.
Listening to the subtle roar of the Thunderhawk's engine, Bakhram gazed at the scenery outside the observation window.
The home world passed down through generations of the Penitent, Posul, slowly rotated in the pale light of the star. The surface looked rugged and uneven, covered with mountains. Since a Ultramarines Captain decided to establish the Chapter founded during the Second Founding here, the Penitent have guarded Posul for nearly ten thousand years, and have trained batches of warriors in the monastery fortress.
From the outside, the Death Sanctuary was more like a vast mountain floating in space than a space fortress. In the distant past, the Tech-Priests used many lost technologies to build this orbital fortress. Its scale far exceeded the size of an ordinary space fortress. Except that it could not move, it was not inferior to any large base of the Imperial Navy. Huge docks stretched out from the adamantium mountains, and on the huge cantilever were huge silver docking rings. Two fully armed Space Marine Strike Cruisers were docked in the docks, and the smaller Gladius Frigates and Hunter Destroyers were parked on both sides, while Battle Barges and larger capital ships were placed in the armored bays deep in the port area. On the cantilever farthest from the dock, a lighthouse shone in the darkness, guiding ships in and out.
"Captain, why are you wading into this muddy water for those guys who like to collect daemon artifacts?"
Hearing Jacob's words, Bakhram withdrew his gaze and turned to look at his warrior.
"Who told you that?"
Putting the company banner aside, Jacob, who was sitting in the chair, shrugged.
"I have some friends in the White Chapel who I get along with."
"Don't talk nonsense like that. You must have evidence when you speak. You can't slander or speculate about others."
"Ha, Captain, if they hadn't committed a crime, why would they be sentenced to a Penitent Crusade?"
"That was before."
"The Imperium doesn't have the saying 'let bygones be bygones'. Besides, what does this have to do with us?"
"Because our Astral Knights, these four words represent a kind of glory and heavy responsibility, and Chapter Master Arash is ultimately a Legion brother. Even if it's not for the Relictors Chapter, we have to help him with this favor."
"Then, Captain, are you confident that you can persuade Mazal?"
Bakhram shook his head.
"No."
At this time, the servitor issued a prompt that it was about to dock, and the others in the cabin stood up.
The scenery outside the window was gradually replaced by huge metal structures, and then the red warning light came on. After flying for a while, the Thunderhawk began to decelerate and stopped with a slight tremor.
As the Thunderhawk's hatch slowly lowered, in the flickering warning lights, Bakhram saw a team of Penitent below. The leader was Torkin, wearing Terminator armor and holding a helmet. They had met a few times, so a friendly smile appeared on his face.
Stepping down the ramp step by step, Bakhram smiled and came to Torkin. The two held each other's arms. Although they couldn't hug because of the Terminator armor, they had expressed the most friendly gesture.
"Welcome, Brother Bakhram, no, I should call you Captain Bakhram now."
"Brother Torkin, why say such polite words? I miss you very much after not seeing you for several years."
"I heard you went to the Scar of Victory before, and I said I would go see you, but I didn't expect you to come."
The two began to move along the passage. Along the way, Bakhram told him about his experiences on Terra and his leadership of the Tenth Company for training, while Jacob, who was following him, curiously looked at the place called the Death Sanctuary.
This place is very different from the Astral Knights' monastery fortress. It looks very dark, and even the candles seem to be used sparingly. They walk in the darkness most of the time, and the air here is very turbid and stale. It is more like a tomb than a fortress.
As they passed through a long corridor, Jacob saw many statues sitting on both sides. They seemed to be Astartes stripped of their power armor, and they were very lifelike. Every statue even had different details of scars on their bodies. I don't know who made them. The ceiling of the room was shrouded in darkness, and the walls were covered with moldy and faded banners. In front of them was a leaf-shaped archway that flowed out of soft light. The only clearly visible light in this corridor was the exit, which looked like a huge burning archway, and the other end seemed to be the underworld.
