The Emperor’s Angel of Death

#2741 - Liberty and royalty

The Sun-Day Star Official was a member of the Phoenix King's Court, similar to a royal seer. In principle, they were the highest leader of all seers outside the inner court (limited to the court, not the entire nation). The leader of the inner court's seers was the Moon-Day Star Official. However, because Sotha-Yang was not often in the court, there were few seers in the outer court, making the Sun-Day Star Official somewhat of a figurehead, but their status was very high.

Star Scourge stood up and came directly in front of Sotha-Yang, shaking out his robe and slowly kneeling.

“I was originally a defeated general, but I am grateful for Your Highness's acceptance. I am willing to offer my services and contribute to the rise of our people.”

“Please rise, victory and defeat are common in battle, you should not be so self-deprecating.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

As Sotha-Yang sat back on the huge spirit bone throne, Star Scourge also stood up again.

“Lord Eldoras, you were once a member of the Alaitoc Seer Council. If I send you as an envoy, are you confident that you can persuade Alaitoc to submit to the court?”

Star Scourge shook his head.

“Please forgive me, Your Highness, I am afraid I cannot do it.”

“Oh? Why? Does Alaitoc have any objections to the court? Or… is it related to other Craftworlds?”

“No, Your Highness, neither of those are the reason.”

“Then…”

“The reason is not complicated. The ancestors of Alaitoc chose the path of wandering, which has created Alaitoc people's high pursuit of freedom. Even most paths are a kind of shackle for the people of Alaitoc, let alone… the shackles of kingship. But please do not regard this as hostility, it is only because ten thousand years of wandering has made it impossible for the people there to live within the framework of a 'nation.'”

Sotha-Yang was silent about this. Star Scourge paused for a moment, then softly asked:

“May I be so bold as to ask Your Highness, what kind of nation do you hope to build?”

At first, Sotha-Yang did not answer, but remained silent for ten seconds before slowly saying:

“The establishment of this nation stems from Veronica's ideals and her benevolence. I love her, so I support her, but I don't have any requirements, just that it has the ability to survive. It is Veronica who decides its future. If Veronica wants it to be strong, I will make it strong. If Veronica wants it to be inclusive, I have no objections. But survival itself is not an easy task. Even mobile Craftworlds are so safe, yet few have survived to this day. The vast majority have been destroyed in wars and various disasters. Dispersion cannot bring security, this is a very simple truth.”

“But Alaitoc does not oppose the court. In fact, as far as I know, many Rangers from Alaitoc serve in the court's armed forces. Your Highness, do you hope to be like the Master of Mankind, using force to unite the Aeldari race and reunify thought and culture? The tragedy of our ancient ancestors has already verified a conclusion: a single culture is very easy to decline and decay. It is because the Aeldari race still has some independent minority cultural groups that there are survivors like the Craftworld Aeldari and the Exodites after the Fall. Otherwise, all Aeldari would be like the corrupted ones of Commorragh.”

Star Scourge's words made Sotha-Yang begin to think for the first time about some of his past views and opinions based on "human thinking inertia."

After a long time, Sotha-Yang nodded slightly.

“I understand. Actually, I also know that forced melons are not sweet. After ten thousand years of lonely wandering, many Craftworlds have formed their own independent cultures and social structures. It is not necessary to demand their submission, but if we can break their deeply rooted isolationism and escapism, I think it would also be a good thing.”

“I also agree with Your Highness on this point. In fact, the Death Guard are still able to awaken in large numbers to this day because of the Craftworld's serious isolationism. Many people take a detached attitude and sit idly by as the threat to the entire race appears. This is also why I support the court. No matter what, there must be a force to force some short-sighted seer councils to contribute when the race is in crisis, instead of being deserters and shrinking turtles.”

“Then, if the court grants Alaitoc a vassal status close to an ally, only requiring them to undertake military obligations, do you think it is feasible?”

“Feasible. Alaitoc has been fighting the Necrons. Your Highness's feat of destroying a dynasty is enough to make the Craftworlds realize the power of the court.”

“Lord, your friend, Illic Nightspear, is he willing to fight for the court?”

Hearing Sotha-Yang mention his friend, Star Scourge was silent for a moment, and replied in a slightly apologetic tone:

“Your Highness, I'm afraid that's difficult. Nightspear is a person who does everything entirely according to his own heart. If he wants to help the court, he will appear without me saying anything. If… he doesn't want to come, no one can say anything.”

“Is that so? Then he is indeed a true Alaitoc citizen. Very well, the court can accommodate free people.”

As he spoke, Sotha-Yang was stunned, because he remembered something.

“By the way, I heard that the Phoenix Lord of the Shadow Spectres, Irillyth, has been resurrected? Alaitoc also participated in the rescue operation, is this true?”

Star Scourge nodded.

“It's true. Craftworld Mymeara has resurrected Lord Irillyth, but because he has been asleep for too long, it will take some time to adapt to the new body, so he has not been active publicly. Mymeara sent an invitation to Alaitoc for this battle. The two Craftworlds established friendly relations a long time ago, so there was no reason to refuse. Nightspear and I also participated in this operation. On Bethalmyr, we…”

Seeing the other party suddenly stop, Sotha-Yang probably guessed what had happened, and said in a relaxed tone:

“You clashed with the human Imperium?”

“Yes, there were also the Space Wolves Chapter and the Titan Legion of the Forge World Gryphonne IV. The battle was fierce. We called on our pirate allies, and the Frozen Stars Masque also participated in the battle.”

Sotha-Yang raised an eyebrow, but did not comment on this. He seemed to have taken a dim view of the fighting between the various races in the galaxy.

“The court had already received this news, and also sent a letter inviting this Phoenix Lord to the court for a talk, but Mymeara did not respond. I was still wondering if the news was fake. So now that is to say, that Lord Irillyth has a rejecting attitude towards the court.”

“Your Highness, that's not certain. Lord Irillyth is a warrior who attaches great importance to his homeland. He fell on Bethalmyr in the first place to prevent the prophecy of his homeland's destruction from coming true.”

Sotha-Yang blinked, with a surprised expression.

“So… he succeeded? He reversed the prophecy? He changed the fate of the Craftworld's destruction?”

“Yes.”

“Ho, rare, rare… But what does this have to do with him rejecting the court's invitation? Could it be that the court is also within some of his prophecies?”
